Hey, off topic i know, but has anyone ever made their own guitar here?
I am staining the neck of my old one mahogany so was just wondering, got any interesting stories etc?
DaPs.
I'm a member of MIMF (Musical Instrument Maker's Forum), and you can find loads of information there, if that's what you're looking for.
Here's a WIP I got right now, I can't wait to fret her up and get it finished already.

Cool. So what sort of tools do you use to cut the wood etc?
What wood is that guitar made out of?
I wish i had tools to make my own, that would be the first thing i would do. Buy a big lump of a really nice guitar wood and make a beautiful guitar!

Are you talking about electric or acoustic?
I assume you are electric, as most people here play electric.
I repair and rebuild acoustic and classical guitars.

I would start out making electric guitar because acoustic is really complicated compared to electrics. Electric guitar is just a plank of wood with pickup and a neck on it. Acoustic has braces, neck blocks, and a bunch of things that can influence the sound so if you built the guitar wrong with the right kind of wood it would still sound wrong. Plus you need tons of tools, clamps, and patience and knowledge. Painting guitars is a lot of learning in itself. I don't have a shop so I cant make my own guitar yet but I certainly could if I had the tools...
You're an aspiring luthier? I totally didn't know that. We should talk about guitar building stuff sometime, my aim is pegdizzler.. or just email me!
