One year later and I can only say one word: WOW. Time flies when you're having fun (or something like that), especially when at university. But now I'm back in my beautiful state of Colorado for the summer and I remember why I never get tired of coming back to this place.
There are a lot of pictures for this update, but I think it's well-deserved. Look at the scenery and you'll know why. Here we go! =D
The first couple photos just show the views from where I was (Red Rocks Amphitheater, just west of Denver).
I'm 6'8", so that gives you an idea how gigantic these rocks are.
A nice close-up...
My favorite pic...
You can see Downtown Denver way off in the distance...
Pondering...
View of the back...
Windswept with sunglasses =P...
The ponytail, which is gradually getting better...
From the side...
Not sure what this is, lol!
Half-tail...
Half-tail close-up...
What can I say? I love this place! =D
Shiprock
Phew! Okay, that was a lot, but I hope you all enjoyed it! Also, please be sure to check out my site if you haven't (just click on my avatar). Well, here's to another year! =D
-James
Hello James! Damn, that was incredible pictures, i can understand why you wanted to return to this place, really an amazing scenery, and your hair is lookin better and better with each month, by the way, what kind of digital camera do you use, as it takes real sharp pictures, right now i'm only using my Sony Ericsson K750i Cellphone to take pics with, althougth it isn't the best actually but quite good for a phone, it's only 2 megapixels:)
Take care!
Simon
Simpa,
Your pics are actually very good for a 2mp cellphone camera. I'm guessing that James' digicam is at least 5 mega pixels.
Thanks a lot, Simon. The camera I have is an HP E317, which is 5.0 megapixels. There's no way I'd be able to use my cellphone, as it takes horrible photos. =P Thanks, again!
-James
Congrats on reaching the one year mark. I couldn't tell from the pics but 6'8" is very tall thats almost a whole foot taller than I am.
Thank you very much, Daedalus! Your hair is awesome and I can only dream of ever reaching that length. =)
-James
Firstly, congratulations on your one year anniversary!
Secondly, this has to be your best update yet. Those pictures are so beautiful and show Colorado's picturesque landscapes along with your ever-lengthening hair.
The last couple months have really seen a wonderful spurt for your hair. More and more is reaching the ponytail tie for both the full tail and half tail. It looks to be in fine condition as well.
I'll be traveling to Colorado in July. My buddy lives in Boulder and we'll be going on a road trip from there to Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Glacier and Big Horn. I can't wait!
Jason
Hey, thank you very much, Jason! I'm glad to hear that you're coming out west again. If you want to meet up at some point while you're out here, just let me know. I work in Broomfield, which is about 10 minutes from Boulder. Also, I'm originally from northern Wyoming, so if you would like some info on things to see, don't hesitate to ask! Thanks, again! =)
-James
Wow, that's beautiful weather and an awesome place
And your hair matches it! You've come a long way James and your hair looks awesome. Who knows what another year will bring?
Keep it growing, it looks great and will only look better!~
-Mihnea
Thanks a lot, Mihnea! I'm quite excited about the next year's progress. Your hair is also coming along quite nicely, judging by your last update. =)
-James
Amazing pictures!
Colorado is one of the most beautiful states I've ever been to. My family and I visited (albeit briefly) back in the summer of 1997. Our trip there was cut short due to a family emergency back home, but before that we stayed the night in Cortez and spent the day at Mesa Verde National Park, which is an amazing place. I hope to get back and explore other areas of the state sometime.
Hi, Michael! Glad to hear you enjoyed Colorado while you were out here. I absolutely love Mesa Verde, as well as Cortez and Durango. It's such a beautiful area and provides a nice escape from the city. Thanks for the comments! =)
-James
Yeah, we had planned to head outward to Durango the next morning until we had to cut the vacation short and head back home. The night we were in Cortez we were treated to one of the most spectacular lightning storms I've ever seen. It started off in the distance and gradually worked its way toward Cortez, and it almost looked more like a work of art than anything else. Was great to just stand there at the railing on the third floor and watch it.
Hi James,
That scenery is GORGEOUS!!! Colorado had been a bit off the route of my planned road trip in 2009, but after seeing these pictures, I will most definitely have to make the adjustments to somehow fit Colorado in to my route.
Also, you hair is growing FAST these days, you are well on the road to having really long hair. It looks great, has lots of shine, and these outdoor pictures really bring out its colour. More and more of your hair is fitting into the tie, a full ponytail is mere months away now.
Congratulations on a great year of growth, and may you have many more years of happy growing!
All the best,
David
Thank you very much, David! I think you'd really like visiting here on your road trip. There is just so much to see! I'm not sure if I'll be here by then, but nevertheless, do try to come through. Also, I very much appreciate the comments about the hair. Thanks, again! =)
-James
Fantastic pictures James! Colorado IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE! I was there @ Red Rocks 30 years ago, boy that brings back memories! We traveled from Denver, thru the mountains, down to the Great Sand Dunes, and then back up to Colorado National Monument. Breath taking! This year my wife and I will be cutting thru the southwest corner of your great state, thru Durango, then to Utah. Looking forward to it. (I will post pictures of course)
You're hair is progressing nicely, great color and shine. Soon it'll all fit into a ponytail!
Keep on growin'
Bruce
Thanks a bunch, Bruce! The Four Corners area is so beautiful in the summertime. You'll love it! =)
-James
I went to Colorado for the first time when I was 10 yrs old. I have always wanted to live there but can't seem to get where I want to be. You are very fortunate and your hair is coming along nicely. 6'8" is pretty darn tall - where did you get the Tall Gene from?
Hey Chamogirl! Thanks for the comments. Colorado is a nice state to live in, but housing here is soooo expensive. As for the height, I recently found out that my maternal great, great grandfather was about my height, so that must be it. Otherwise everyone in my family is short. =P
-James
You are right it is expensive to live there because every one wants to be there. I was stationed for a very short time ouside of Denver and it was an awesome experience.
Do you like being tall? I know i wish I were taller.
Being tall has its ups and downs. ;) It's sometimes a pain to buy clothing that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, but that's ok. Being able to see over everyone else in a crowd makes it all worthwhile. =)
-James
James, you should consider yourself very lucky. The 1-year mark is usually a 'bad hair' time, but your hair looks very neat and manageable. At 1 year, my hair was a scary mess :-P
It's very rare that 'awkward stage' length hair looks so natural and cool on a person, but you are one of the exceptions. If your hair looks this good during the awkward stage, it's bound to be a downright marvel in another year :-)
Thank you very much for the comments, SOADdude! It'll be fun to see what the next year has in store. Your hair is also coming along very well and is gonna look awesome! =)
-James
Hi! The pictures that you have taken are incredible. I hope that I can get to Colorado someday. Your hair is looking good and by the end of the summer, your pony tail will be nice and long. Have a great summer.
Del
Thanks a lot, Del! Definitely try to make it out here at some point. Colorado has got to be one of those places everyone sees in their lifetime, especially if you live in North America. Thanks again! =)
-James
You are extremly lucky. Hair and scenery looks great. I want to go there now. ;_;
Thanks, Emmerich! Get out here as soon as you can. You'll love it! =D
-James
Hi James,
Those are some really good pics you took, your hair looks good for one years growth can't wait for future updates. Colorado is a beautiful state one can see why you enjoy going home.
Happy Growing
Kevin
Thanks a lot, Kevin! Your hair is looking very nice, as well. Keep it growing! =)
-James
Great pics, James! The hair's coming along nice!
In the summer of 1976 I went to Colorado on a vacation with some friends of mine. That trip was the first time I've seen the Rocky Mountains [I'm originally from Michigan... we don't have mountains like that in Michigan!]. Then, a few months after the vacation, I joined a traveling band and we played quite a few times at the Antlers Plaza Hotel in Colorado Springs. I can see why you love Colorado... I do, too!
--Rick
Hey, thanks, Rick! I'm glad you've enjoyed your time out here. The hotel is still there down in the Springs, but they've renovated it since and it's now an Adam's Mark. lol =) Thanks, again!
-James
Without a doubt about the most gorgeous scenery-update posting that I have ever beheld. Spectacular photography beyond belief! It is so easy to see why you love the area of the country in which you live. And of your own hairs growth in one year? Superb in length as well as colour. Next year when you look at these photos you will be the most astonished of all when you see what another years growth brings.
All and all: MAGNIFICENT!
Thank you so much, Justin! That means quite a lot coming from you. I really appreciate the comments. =)
-James
What a mane, James. I like the "Pondering" picture the best. The sunlight brings out the natural highlighs as seen in the bangs. May you have another wonderful year growing hair and living in a beautiful state.
Mouse
Thanks, Mouse! I'm looking forward to the next year's growth, as well as your next update. Also, I definitely have to say that Minnesota is quite a beautiful state as well. It's always one of my favorite places to visit. =)
-James
Amazing scenery, James! Indeed Colorado is a beautiful place. As for your hair, It is coming along very well. It looks very healthy and has a very nice color. Congratulations to you James for making it to a year. Definitley something to be proud of :-)
wishing you joy in the journey,
Chris
Thank you very much, Chris! Your hair is coming along quite nicely too! =)
-James
wowza man!look at that scenery!!especiallly that first photo..now THAT one blew my mind!!a very special anniversary update!congrats!!the hair is lookin better than ever!!
all the best,
-Jacob
Thank you very much, Jacob! The views from up there are astounding. I'm looking forward to your next update, as your hair is definitely looking great too! =)
-James
I was in boulder and denver in early 2005. It is really pretty.
Actually, this is just north of the small town of Morrison, which is about 25 miles south of Boulder. You might be thinking of the Flatirons, which are spectacular as well. =)
-James
Yea the flatirons were great when I was in boulder. Awesome town, but a little small for me.
I miss Neapolitan's up in Nederland. My sister lived in Nederland for a few years. Whenever I visited we'd always hit Neapolitan's. Small place, but very good food.

Splat
Hey James..
The hair is looking great my friend. Keep up the great work.
I do have to agree with you .... most people would love to live here in our state. I'll probably post an update soon from the top of one of our 14ers ... hopefully time will permit.
Do you like to go hiking much?
Tristan
Thanks a lot, Tristan! Unfortunately I don't get out hiking a whole lot, but I'm only here about 3 months of the year. Looking forward to your update, too. What part of Colorado are you in?
-James
Hey James;
I'm actually just north of you in the Longmont/Berthoud area. Do you work in the Jeff CO airport or the Broomfield airport?
I take it you're only here for the summer?...
Tristan
I'll be at Jeffco starting Monday morning. And, yes, I'll be here until July 27/28 and then I head back east.
That's great.. Jeffco is a nice airport. I've only been through it once..
Speaking of heading east. I have to make a small trip to Georgia here soon for a week or so.
Its always hard to go back east after being here. The humidity is daunting.. even if it is only for a week.. my hair will really "frizz" then!
Be blessed ....
Tristan
Nice pictures! Congrats on one year of growing.
Looking great James!
- Oren
Thank you very much, Oren! Your hair and beard are looking awesome, too. =)
-James
Hey James, your hair is coming along well. You hair is going to have to be really long to look long due to your height. A waist length ponytail would be about 1/3 of your height. For you, that is 26.7 inches. What is your goal length?
Absalom
Thanks, Absalom! Yes, it's going to take a looong time, as I am probably going to grow to waist (not sure of actual measured length). I may not keep it that length in the end, but I do want to try it at least once. =)
-James
Wow James! Colorado looks like a wonderland... + Your hair looks awesome!!!
Thanks, Vytautas! It really is a spectacular state and I hate leaving every time. Please post an update when you get a chance. I'm interested in seeing your progress, as well. =)
-James
Congratulations James on reaching the one year mark, its a good achievement! Do you think you will aim for the 2 year goal?
Hey, Pablo! I'll definitely be going past 2 years... probably more like 4 or 5, as I'm growing to waist length. Thank you very much for your comments! =)
-James
Hey James...congrats on making it to 1 year. A lot of dudes cave in before reaching a year so be proud of yourself for sure. Hair looks to be chuggin' along nicely. Question: Do you color your hair or do you have natural highlights? This time next year will really trip you out hard!
Nice pictures of Red Rocks, too. Some great music has been played up at that place. Been meaning to make a road trip out to the rocks for a good show sometime. I've only been to Colorado once and that was for a day seminar at a hotel close to the airport. And let me tell you...I got lost in that massive airport, too. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to move around Colorado and check it out better. I really didn't see anything since the airport is kind of out there. My brother-in-law and his family live in Grand Junction and I know fellow glassblowers in Boulder.
Anyway...have a good summer and keep that hair growin'!
Thanks, Gman! Those highlights are all natural. =D
I'm sorry you weren't able to get too far from DIA in your visit, as that truly isn't the best representation of life here. And I can definitely see how someone can get lost in that airport, but luckily I've flown in and out of there so many times that I'm used to it. =P
Thanks, again! =)
-James
Congratulations on your 1st year update, James!! :D Are you celebrating tomorrow lol? Your hair looks great, I really liked the colour, that new camera brings out your real hair colour! It's grown noticeably and it's even longer because yours seems to be wavy. It must be annoying to grow it long when you're that tall but when your hair is really long it even looks better. I'm tall myself, but not as much as you are, it will look great!
I'm going to have to post my update on Monday , I'm so pissed I can't post it exactly on the 12th at least for my 1st year but I just can't then. Now when they ask us how much we've been growing it out, we can say 1 year and... :D
Isn't it awesome to finally reach this landmark? I'm sorry you can't post on Saturday, but I'm really looking forward to seeing your update, especially with the quick progress you've been making the past few months. Take lots of pics and get the most out of the occasion as possible! =D
And, no, I'm not celebrating. I'm going to visit family up north, so that may actually be considered a punishment, lol! Anyway, thanks for your comments, grrrrr! Also, do you have MSN or anything like that? =)
-James
Hey, I know what you mean lol. Relatives can be annoying and especially if they're going to be unsupportive. Anyway, yeah I have MSN felagund1@gmail.com
Hi James. What an update fella, fantastic pictures, fantastic hair, especially like the halftail. We dont have scenerey like that in essex uk, makes me want to travel there and see it. . I went to vegas in 2003, and saw the grand canyon, which was awe inspiring. Maybe another trip is needed after seeing those pictures. Keep up the good work James, all the best Jonny H uk
Hey, thanks, Jonny! I'd love to visit the UK at some point... maybe within the next few years. We'll see. I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time about 2 1/2 years ago and I was speechless. Now that's truly a breathtaking sight. Anyway, take care and thanks again for your comments! =)
-James
Looking good! Have you had any trims during the year?
Thanks, Kyle! I've only had one trim, back at the beginning of October, which took off about 2 inches of growth in the back and nothing in the front. I do regret it, as it would've blended in now, but that's life. =P
Anyway, keep up your growth as well, post an update when you can, and send me an IM when you get a chance. Hope work is going well! Ttyl! =)
-James
Hi J.R.,
I guess you're too young to have ever been a fan of Dallas...
Anyhow, your hair growth is coming along well and hope it can continue unimpeded for as long as you wish. It looks great. Plus, the scenery is so fantastic out there in Colorado it's no wonder you like being there. For some reason, I could only view about half of the pictures, but what I saw was great. I will check out your website as well to try and view the rest.
I'm sure you're enjoying your respite from school and can breifly breathe a sigh of relief for the summer. I'm sure you did great. Godd luck with the restaurant this summer. And, before you know it, it will be time to go to Portugal.
On a side note, I found this book called English as She is Spoke by Jose Da Fonseca & Pedro Carolino. The two guys were from Portugal and wrote the book in the mid-1800's as an English conversation book for speakers of Portuguese. The problem was that they didn't know English. They knew French, so they used a French-English dictionary to come up with English phrases. Mark Twain actually praised the book as a fine piece of humor. They had good intentions, but the book has gone down in history more as humor than as a guide. The book has done nothing however to assuage Luso-Anglo/American relations...
Here is an excerpt:
Com o Dentista. (With a Dentist.)
Penso que e um dente podre. Quer Vm. examinar-me a boca?
(I think that is a bad tooth; please you to examine my mouth?)
Nao me posso decidir a isso; porque a dor e grande.
(I can't to decide me it, that make me many great deal pain.)
O seu dente esta de todo cariado; e, se o deixa, estragara os outros.
(Your tooth is absolutely roted; if you leave it; shall spoil the others.)
Ok, you get the point,
Bragi
Oi Bragi! I might have to look up that book, as I can always stand a good laugh. I suppose it's a good thing they decided to translate to English, as I don't know any French, lol! ;) Anyway, that's weird that you were only able to view half the photos... maybe my university's server went down temporarily or something. Who knows... And yes, I do know the show Dallas, though I'm not sure I quite resemble Larry Hagman. =P I'm so excited to go to Portugal, you have no idea. I promise there will be LOTS of photos to view from that, so that's something to look forward to. Well, take care and keep growing, too! =)
-James
Hi James,
I don't blame you for loving Colorado, --- I love it, too!!!!
And your one-year update is worth shouting about as well!!!!! Your longer hair suits you very well, and the length is definitely noticeable!
I haven't been to Colorado in a long time; but whe I was in my 20's, I spent a fair amount of time there (as well as in Northern New Mexico, around the Cimmarron/Taos area; also Wyoming, when I took a course at National Outdoor Leadership School out of Landers; and also helped friends build their cabin in Kalispel, near Glacier Nat'l Park in Montana).
There is nothing quite like the Rocky Mts. to soothe the soul, --- and there's nothing quite like having long hair to help one feel "at one" with Mama Nature!
BEAUTIFUL photos, James, --- thanks so much for sharing them!!!
- Ken
Thank you ever so much, Ken, for your comments. I'm actually headed up to Wyoming later this morning for the day. Unfortunately I'll be in what could be considered the "less-attractive" part, but that's ok. Still better than nothing, I suppose. =P
Your hair looks awesome, as well. Don't ever cut it again! Thanks again, man! =)
-James
Hi James I know I'm a little late to respond to your great post so hopefully you'll check back to see my comment.Anyway thanks for taking the time to post all those outstanding pics as they are fantastic.Your state looks like a wonderful place with natural beauty. Not to be forgotten is your impressive longhaired journey too!!Very nice after only one year of growth and I certainly hope you stick with it to get that really long hair if thats your choice.I can't imagine what it would be like to see you in person as its hard to tell by your pic that you are as tall as you say.I'm 6'3" so I'd look like a shrimp next to you I guess!LOL.However I love my waist length hair at that height so for you I think the result would be the same.So thanks for taking the time to do this thread and hopefully I'll get my own pics on soon someday as its been awhile.Mark
Thank you very much, Mark. From the picture you posted above, your hair is outstanding! One of my brothers is also 6'3", and he certainly doesn't look like a shrimp next to me, so don't get yourself down too much. ;) Anyway, thanks again!
-James
are . . .
Hey James, man,
Great pictures! Just incredible! Whoa. Thank you for posting them. Especially since I've never been anywhere but the Northeast. Truly breathtaking perspective on the grandeur of Mother Nature. Oh, all right then, and good to see pictures of you with your progress, too! I recently posted a sepiatone one of me here some where else (don't wanna be redundant, someone might complain). BTW, what's your ethnicity? I'm German, Scots-Irish, English, French-Canadian, and, of course, Elf, and stand at 5'10" exactly. But 6'8"? That is TALL, James!
Best longhaired wishes,
Quenyan (+:-)}
Thanks, Quenyan. My ancestry is a "Heinz 57" of Swedish, German, Dutch, Scottish, English, Irish, French-Canadian, and a drop of Native American (not sure which tribe exactly... probably Shoshone or something like that). =)
Great pictures, great hair and great to hear you are enjoying your new home.
Wow am I ever glad that I have broadband!!
best regards to you, Dave
