I'm in the awkward stage and would like to speed through it as fast as possible, I've heard biotin works wonders, but have a few ?'s:
Does biotin only affect the hair on your head and fingernails (not other hair)?
How much does it speed up growth?
Yes, it seems to me that it affects nails, moustache and beard/goatee growth. I used to cut my fingernails once every 2 weeks, now I had to cut it once every 1.5 weeks, otherwise, it'll become unbearably long ;)
It largely depends. Based on my research, there's a limit to it and it is basically limited by your body's own maximum rate of metabolism. Biotin, BTW, maximises your body's rate of metabolism and thus enhances bodily hair, nails growth.
This goes to mean that, if your body has a naturally high metabolism rate which is near to its maximum (based on your diet), then no amount of Biotin would enhance hair growth significantly (and your hair would naturally grow fast anyway). Otherwise, you would usually observe significant hair growth, unless, of course, your maximum metabolism is naturally low.
For me, after taking Biotin, my hair growth was accelerated by an average of 1/4" per month, not much faster as compared to my "normal" growth. I'm taking 1200 mcgs/day.
FYI.
Has Biotin caused any other side effects to your body? Does this
mean that your hair is growing 3/4" per month now? MG
No. Biotin is just like any vitamins, it is either absorbed by, or passed out by the body. The only possible side effect is, when it is taken overly in excess, you will find that restroom visits become more frequent ;)
Yes, it averages about 3/4" now over the past 3 months (since I started taking it).
