I myself have no intentions of growing a long beard or any beard for that matter, as I feel fresher clean shaven. But I just want to see how many guys grow beards and how many don't with the long hair...?
big beard here.
having a beard just feels right to me,
it is part of my face and yes it is nice and soft.
I am also atracted to guys with beards
never got into the clean shaved face type.
I've had a beard for over 17 years...since I was a senior in high school, actually. Sometimes it's short about 1", sometimes I grow it a few inches (usually during winter). I love having a beard. My wife loves my beard. My kids love to play with my beard. It's all good.
As for your question: I let all my hair grow naturally, including my beard. But of course, to each his own.
Wish you well, friend.
(Greetings to you all, by the way. I'm new to the board.)
Hi Dave,
I had never has a beard in over 53 years until some of the guys here at the MLHH urged me to try growing my first one back in January. I am thrilled beyond words how well it has turned out, it has grown in incredibly thick, and I actually have to trim it significantly every few days just to keep it to around an inch of growth. I get plenty of Grizzly Adams, Jeremiah Johnson, and Jesus comments, lol! I don't plan to cut it off anytime soon.

I maintained a 1" thick beard, for a little over a year, until I got inspired to try a Vandyke, a couple of months ago. I absolutely love it, too. I don't see myself wanting to regrow my beard again. I feel, for lack of a better word, suave. I also feel more stylish because I'm actually expressing more of myself instead of just being lazy. My wife loves it, too. We get to enjoy the best of both worlds, together - I enjoy having facial hair while she enjoys seeing the rest of my face. It's proven to be the perfect compromise for us.
Here's an image comparing the two:
Although I tried a mostache and goatee years ago, I generally find facial hair on men unnatractive, except maybe a small soul patch or chin hair. But for me I found it to much work to manitain, itchy, and made my face breakout, so I dovote all my time to growing on my head :-)
Clean for now, but I do like a moustache and would like to have a larger one with a goatee, except for a job (safety) restriction.
Someday....
I'm pretty much incapable of growing a beard. I've never tried deliberately, but since I'm lazy at shaving, I've sometimes gone two weeks or more between shaves, and it grows in very patchy. Even worse-looking than when Keanue Reeves has one. Haha!! But even if I could, I wouldn't want a beard.
However, I do currently have a Van Dyke of sorts. It's not pointy on the chin, but it's around my mouth pretty much like a Van Dyke. I have one of those off and on. I'll wear it for a few months or a year, then get tired of it and shave it off, go clean for awhile, then decide to let it grow back. Just kind of depends what kind of mood I'm in when I go in to shave that night. :)
Hey Dave,
Good question. I have alternated on again, off again, between being clean-shaven, moustached, sideburned, Luciferianly goateed, Van-Dyked, and/or fully bearded. Like a previous post from another member, my wife digs it, too. No kids playin' with it, though, during story time . . . LOL . . . here's my latest progress pic
achieving beardedness all over again.

Here is mine from several months ago, but I am keeping it now two weeks past what the photo showes. And my hair? Just below waist level.
A trip to the users' directory will give you a good idea of the percentage.
Then go to gaylonghair.com and you'll find a higher percentage. I don't know why.

Beard, of course! Shaving is a waste of time and hurts. Beards are cool.
Definitely a beard I shaved it off 5 years ago and hated the way I looked so personal preference I guess.
Hey Dave,
In addition to my previous posting on this particular thread, you might want to have a look-see at http://mybeard.org where you'll find more bearded guys are short-haired (or shaven-headed!) as opposed to long-haired guys cultivating beards, I daresay.

I'm 49 and I haven't started shaving yet, LOL! IOW, I've had a beard since I was old enough to grow facial hair. Oddly enough, though, I don't really feel as strongly about beards as long hair. I've never grown my beard long, so theoretically if I shaved it off it wouldn't take long to grow back. I can't imagine actually shaving it off though, as I've never done that before!
I have had beard for about 20 years. In the beginning I grew it because shaving every day was too much of a hassle, then I couldn't imagine myself without it,
