As of just this past May 10th, it has been one year since scissors have touched my hair. I think it may be a little longer now than this same time right before the cut last year. Really, I have no business making an update. The pictures are a little rough looking. It's about 93F outside and the humidity has got to be around 100%. No nice well defined locks today for you fellows! The pictures make my hair look shorter than it feels, if that makes any sense. In another year, it'll be looking good and long for sure. I'd say I can't wait but, I guess I'll have to. So here are some pictures - a little longer and a little balder! HAHA!
Atop a hill amongst some pecan trees...All the haze in the background is from the Okefenokee Swamp area in SE Georgia which has been on fire for about a month...The wind shifted last night and brought back the smoke.
Very Serious!
An attempted smile. These trees look like mangroves like you'd see in the Sunderbans in Bengal, but there just bay trees in the creek nearby.
I have beyond shoulder length hair when I tilt this way!
"Dr. Livingston, I presume?"
Seriously, no sunglasses! Can you believe it!
These outdoor photos really bring out the reddish-blond I never notice inside.
I sure hope these HTML tags are right! Thanks, you guys, all for being a part of the MLHH.org and synergizing together to make the board what it is. What, I'd never have kept at growing my hair this long had it not been for this bunch. I started out in May 2003 foregoing haircuts! By all rights, I should be approaching waist-length now! But, having jumped and encountered some stumbling blocks along the way, hopefully, I can accomplish some substantial growth from here on out.
Bragi
Great update, Bragi! I think your hair is looking good in the photo's despite the high temp/humidity. It's nice to have some length after a cut, eh? Glad you've made it past the stumbling blocks of life and are pointed in the right direction. By the way, I dig your gray accents...seriously. And that beard...ROCKIN'! I wish I could grow a dense patch under my bottom lip like you've got. Mine are mostly blond and only appear darker when not in direct sunlight.
Anyway...very nice update, Bragi. Keep that killer hair growin'!
~G
Congratulations!
Lookinggood there Bragi. Your hair and beard both look amazing! Your curls look very defined despite that wretched humid weather. I was really anticipating an update from you and i can say it was sure worth the wait. Indeed a very good update. Well Bragi, Take care and good luck with your studies!:-)
P.S At last, your eyes were revealed to the MLHH. What a relief as i was beginning to think you were a vampire of some sort :-)
See you later Bragi
Hey Matt,(the good Matt, lol!)
At LONG last, you have posted your update. Congratulations on reaching the one year mark, with many more years of growing to come. Your hair is looking great, with lots of natural curls that will look awesome when super long. And your beard is looking ace as well, it's ironic that the lower part of your beard has nearly identical colouring to mine, with that same patch of gray that I have. Your 'stache, however, is much darker than mine.
I love the pictutres of the great Georgia scenery. A awamp fire lasting a month, really, why haven't they been able to put it out? The temperature, 93 F, is a little warmer than I would like, lol!
Keep it growing,
David
Cool update your hair is looking great in spite of the humidity
Happy growing
Kevin
Hey Matt,
I've really been looking forward to this update. Your curls have such volume to them! Maybe next time you could show a photo of you from the back. I bet the curls are already being affected by gravity a little. Imagine in a year! They'll be ringlets for sure.
Rockin curls, Bragi! What is it about the 12th that seems to draw everyone in for an update? lol... Oh well. Anyway, one year down, another to go. Keep it growing! =)
-James
Good to hear from you.....it seems like that year has gone by fast and you certainly have come along well.....the natural (humid) look suits you.
Thanks for all the "background" info as well.....it has been a long time since I have been to that part of the world, but I have always loved the Okefenokee !!
Thanks for Sharing

Bragi:
The hair looks great. I lived in Georgia alot growing up so I know what the heat and humidity can feel like! Congrats on keeping your hair growing.
Peace..
Tristan
Hey Bragi
All is looking great right now! Looks in PERFECT harmony with your beard.
All the best-
Justin~
Great curls! Seriously, Matt, happy 1st year, seems like a few of us started growing out at the same time! :P I'm posting my update tomorrow.
PS: The reddish-blond really suits you!
Looks awesome! Even without the well-defined locks your hair has nice wave too it, and the beard it quite thick.
Keep it growing!
Mouse
Thanks, Mouse. Sorry to have missed your post. I suppose as I was posting the other one, you posted in the mean time before I refreshed the page. I look foreward to an update from you too soon.
To gman: Thanks so much for the comments. I appreciate them. I had thought about going the coloring route, but actually like the mixed white and and grey and red and brown! I am looking forward to an update from you soon as well. Actually, I would prefer a thinner beard to some extent. Thicker is not always better. And a blondish beard like you have, well thats what I always think is cool about your updates!
To ChrisH: ¡Hola! Actually, I am a vampire, but in the no sunglasses picture, I had in special contacts that I get from an optical manufacturer in Cluj-Napoca, right in the heart of Transylvania. Ah, Ah, Ah (Dracula laugh?!) I guess your no stranger either to the humidity being in Miami. Thanks for the compliments, and look forward to seeing what your hairs doing soon.
To DavidN: Thanks, David. I hope I can get to super-long eventually. Heck, Ill settle for shoulder-length! In the Southeastern US, the swamps are mostly cypress trees. Each year, they drop their needle-like leaves forming layer after layer of peat-like, spongy detritus that over the years becomes compacted. This is why Okefenokee is called land of the trembling earth both in its literal meaning and linguistic origin from one of the Native American languages. What seem to be islands in the swamp are actually layers of foliage and inter-grown roots that make island-like structures that almost float on the water, thus tremble. This year, it has been very dry, and lightening strikes set the swamp ablaze. When the peat starts to burn, it is almost impossible to extinguish by human intervention on behalf of firefighters, etc. The layers still smolder deep inside, and the only thing that can really stop it is a good soaking rain, which we havent had.
To Kevin C: Thanks for the compliment. Happy growing to you as well!
To Jason: Thanks, and I am still waiting on gravity to do its part. I think another year will do wonders, you are right. I looked at some pictures I had posted back in October of 2006, and the difference is dramatic really in length, but still not satisfied, of course! I will try to do a back-shot next time. The most exiting thing for me was realizing that the sun brings out the reddish colour. I never look in the mirror outside!
To James Raymond: Thanks for the compliments. I kept wondering why your name was ringing a bell in my head. There is a financial services company called Raymond James with whom I have an account. It finally occurred to me once I got a letter from them yesterday. I bet I can beat you to waist-length though! Im only 510. HEHE!
To Whitetail: Thanks for the comments. Im not always too keen on the humid look, but I guess Ill have to deal with it. If you ever visit this neck of the woods, look me up! Now, when will you post some desert pictures where your hair dries in like, what, 10 minutes?
To Tristan: Much appreciated. Where did you live in GA?
To Justin: Thanks, and just you wait another few years Harmony will not even be the word for it. More like preter-harmonious, ack, I just made that up, maybe it doesnt make sense!
To grrrr: I do like the color too that is a result of natural fading. Thanks. Happy first year to you too, and look forward to your update.
Hey Bragi, your hair is looking awesome!
I was expecting a darker color (it looks to be really dark brown in your avatar) but these pictures make it look light brown!
The beard is looking awesome as well!
-Mihnea
Thanks, Mihnea! I wasn't expecting the lighter color either. I never look in the mirror outside.
lol!! I had no idea you looked like George Clooney without the shades!!^_^
..great update matt!!the hAIR and beard (and scenery) are looking superb!!you say you started out 4 years ago?If I remember correctly..you had to get a huge trim May of last year right?
all the best,
-Jacob
Hahaha! That's funny, George Clooney. You are too nice.
Thanks for the compliments. Yes, Four years ago. I compromised at around shoulder-length for three years for work, and then last year's chop happened, yes, you are right.
But, no more of that.
Have fun in Hellas!
Bragi
Whaddayamean you have no place making an update - thats a fantastic set of pictures and your hair is looking superb. Combined with the beard and cool shades you look fantastic!!
THANKYOU for sharing with us.
all the best, Dave
I am glad to see you've gotten to the year after your dreaded chopping. Congratulations. It is also nice to see the curls from various angles.
Your beard is great, too!
