Today (May 13th) would have been Chuck Schuldiner's 40th birthday.
Chuck passed away on December 13th in 2001, after his brain tumor that was removed a while ago returned, and this time, lack of funds made it impossible for Chuck to have a surgery. In the last months of his life, he was also stricken with pneumonia.
Chuck is a very important figure in death metal and metal in general, and despite the fact that he named his band Death, Chuck loved life and family with all his heart. An excellent guitarist, his music inspired many musicians in the metal genre and in general, including myself. His band, Death, started out as a very raw death metal band and progressed with each album, in every aspect. The lyrics turned from being gore lyrics, to very philosophical lyrics about reality, which we all have to deal with. The guitar work (and instrumental work in general) can be seen evolving with every album.
Rest in Peace Chuck! Your spirit lives in in the minds, hearts (and fingers!!!) of those whose lives you have touched through your music.

As Chuck said,
"Life ends so fast, so take your chance and make it last!"

Chuck used the BC Rich Stealth model, only available through the BC Rich custom shop. He only used one pickup (DiMarzio X2n) in the bridge position. It is an offset X shape, which inspired many different models from different companies, such as the Jackson Warrior (which I own) and the Ibanez Xiphos, among others.
I can´t believe MONEY can be the reason for someone to die. That´s horrible... how can you put a price on life or death surgery? How can you put a price on somebodys life?
Yeah that's what I thought when I first heard about it.
It's sad that such an influential and talented musician had to die like that.
But I guess the positive side would be that he no longer has to go through the pain of brain stem cancer.

Matt
Yeah, he truly was a great musician. I still blast Symbolic whenever I can and play crystal mountain on guitar on occasion. Too bad he had to go so young.
Symbolic is my favorite album from Death.
I love them all equally though
If that makes sense haha
And yeah Crystal Mountain is very fun to play on the guitar especially the lick/mini solo after the "Inside crystal mountain, evil takes its form" part.
R.I.P. Chuck
Let the metal flow.

Is he related to Dee snyder in any way? I just wonder if he will mention it in his "house of hair" show...
