Turns out Albertsons Grocery has been bought ot by Save Mart and they are going to fire their employees for having beards and/or LONG HAIR! We must take a stand and support or long hair and bearded brothers. I suggest we all contact Mr Steve Beaver (VP of operations) at (209)574-6299 ext. 3601 and let him know that we, our families, and friends will boycott their stores if our brothers are fired. Albertsons will lose millions of dollars. We are a vocal and powerful minority with deep pockets and LONG HAIR. And our numbers are growing (no Pun intended.)
This truly does not surprise me. I worked at an Albertsons for almost 9 months a couple years ago, and they were already quite strict on their dress policies. At the time, I had short hair and was a model employee, so I never had any problems, but I did think it was a little ridiculous. Why is it that women can have long hair and men can't? As long as we keep it clean and tidy, who cares?!? BAH!
We now live in the twenty foirst century. Can an incomimg employer in the 'free' (ha, ha, ha) US of A really change the conditions of existing employees in this way?
In the UK this would bea hige 'no, no'.
I would boycott them, but there are no Albertson's or Save Mart stores around here to boycott.
We don't have these stores in New York. I did call him and voiced our opinions of his policy.

> Albertsons will lose millions of dollars.
I think they already are. All the Albertson's around here have folded. The long hair policy may be indicative of generally incompetent rigid management. Their labor relations are continuously in the toilet, etc.
Thanks for this alert.
I just sent an email voicing my extreme displeasure at this ridiculous policy...wow! This really got me riled up. I hope this bigoted and idiotic attitude by Save Mart changes. We shall see...
Cheers all,
Max L.
I just got a job at Acme, which is connected in some way to Albertson's. Not sure what the exact relation is. But anyway, I tied my hair back for the interview, and the topic of hair didn't even come up. I have orientation on Thursday. I'm not too crazy about working at a grocery store, but at 17 years old it's better than nothing. Plus, I was desperate to get a job before I leave for a trip to France near the end of June.
As long as I keep my hair tied back, I'm sure there won't be a problem.
This is upsetting. I am very tired of these bullies. IMO this is discrimination and should not be allowed. How is this not a violation of ones civil rights?
Friends,
I went to this site:
by several access routes and got nothing. I find it difficult to believe that a major grocery company would be so stupid, for if indeed this is a fact they are going to lose lots of business, and I will do everything I can do to that end.
Can I have a reference to a newsreport, or the origin of this information?

It would be amusing if somewhere like Tower Records had a strict dress code.
All I can contribute is that Albertsons is owned by Supervalue who own Cub Foods (where I work) among other banners. Supervalue is more of a distributer so they tend to sell a few stores here and there to local chains under franchise agreements as long as they continue to buy from their warehouse. My guess is the Save Mart people are the villains as There's no long hair issues at my store anyway.
This doesn't mean Supervalue isn't evil cause they are.
