I have a dry skin and dandruff on the face and scalp. However when I use skin care lotion on my face it clears up. However I'm wondering if it is a good idea to apply lotion only to my scalp then washing it out. Really would like the dandruff to clear up without buying costly products. By the way I won't use things like head and shoulders as I heard they are very harsh on the hair.
You never know what the extra lotion ingredients may do to your hair so I'd suggest getting a hair friendly oil such as cocunut, jojoba, or almond and massaging a little into your scalp regularly. Another good bet is 100% aloe gel diluted in water and put into a spray bottle to spritz your hair and scalp. A very dry scalped friend of mine swears by this for adding moisture and making her itches go away.
Dandruff can also have other causes than dryness so you might want to try a diluted vinegar rinse after shampooing.

All of these things will not work as well as dandruff shampoo.
Do i have to use dandruff shampoo everyday. I mean head and shoulders all the brands have at least 1 type of ammonium laureth sulfate in them.
Skin moisturiser is not really meant for the scalp. It is pretty self explanatory.
Head and shoulders is just shampoo, it's not going to damage your hair and it will most certainly get rid of dandruff that you have.
