Way down this page now is a thread started by Michael124, with the Subject heading, "Why do you want/have long hair?" My apologies for not replying at the time; but I've had to work long hours recently, --- so just now am getting caught-up with the board. Here's my belated answer...
From as far back as I can remember, I've always wanted/liked long hair; but my dad being an ex-navy guy, I was forced into having crew cuts every summer as a kid (as well as short hair the rest of the year as well).
To me, long hair very much symbolizes that I have a CHOICE in who I am and how I want to be as an adult. I had absolutely NO choice as a child and even as a teen, because my dad was very mentally/emotionally abusive, --- including the act of physically controlling me & my brotheres through "butcher-job" home barber-shop haircuts (my dad being the actual person cutting our hair). The more he cut my hair short, the more I knew someday I'd break free from him and grow it long.
I also quite frankly have always always ALWAYS loved the look of long hair on guys, --- it just looks so damn cool!!!!!!!
And now that I do indeed have long hair on my own head, I can also verify the following: long hair feels just as fun to have on my head as it looks!
I hope that answers your question, Michael124.

PS - GREAT updates I missed, too, by the way, --- sorry I wasn't around at the time to reply to all of you!!
Hi Ken, you are always so busy!! What line of work are you in? Please feel free to tell me to stop being nosey if you don't want to say!!
Regards Dave
I'm a secret agent for the deeeeeeep underground Underground Railway, an affiliate of the dirty Earthworm Society, --- a double-agent, really, --- so, I can't talk about it!
No, seriously... you're not being too nosey, so I'm fine with telling!
The truth: I mainly juggle 2 totally different jobs... I manage a small kitchen at a private nursing home (where I also cook a couple of days a week). When I'm not doing that, I also have private gardening clients whose gardens I maintain in San Francisco. It's when employees call-in sick or take a vacation that I'm REALLY busy at the first job, --- it can be either "feast or famine" there!
I also get calls on occasion to teach Swing dance classes at a C&W bar; but in my mind, that's more fun than work (even though they pay me for teaching)!
Of course, I still fantasize about being that double-agent someday (lol)!!

And on top of all of that, Ken is an active member of the MLHH Crew. Ken is a busy man, yet always cheerful, spreading his joy wherever he goes! And he goes lots of places....
Bill
He is a very cheery guy for sure, great sense of humour.
Hmmmm... that last line, "And he goes lots of places..." Makes me wonder where I've been recently, --- and who knows my deepest, darkest secrets (lol)....

It's never to late to write that best-selling gardening book, Ken - I bet you can do it!
One of these days I need to write a book too. I always said I would grow up to be an author, but all I write are patents.
Sounds like fun, can you make water into wine?
I've thought about garden maintenance as i love the outdoors and fresh air.
Yes, I regularly do so... and I can even walk across my brother & sister-in-law's swimming pool (if the heavy-duty platic cover is across it, that is)!
It has it's pluses; but I am getting a bit too old (as well as too over-weight) to do the hardcore new garden insallation work I did when I was younger. It helps that I've worked under some really excellent landscape designers as well as a landscape architech, before gaining clients of my own. It also helps a lot that I've taken a lot of courses/classes/workshops, etc. in Ornamental Horticulture, as well as read a lot of gardening books, gone on many garden tours, etc. etc...
In reality, what I'd REALLY like is a garden of my own to putt-putt around in... Too bad I wasn't born into a lot of "old money" to inherit, --- that way I could have a large piece of property to design my own world's most fabulous rose garden, invite longhairs over for a little tea and talk about my new NY Times' best-selling gardening book, --- ahhhh, I'm afraid my fantasy life is FAR more intersting than my real one (lol)!!

No sugar, a little milk and some chocolate biscuits for me. Mmmm now how long is a flight from the UK to San Fran?
Hey Ken
Now this is my way of gardening these days. And it has so many benefits!
1. Plants stay inside kids-size pools in water.
2. Water can be walked on when frozen.
3. Plants attract, lure, catch and eat insects.
4. Species of traps are beautiful as well as the flowers.
5. Especially good at catching hornets
6. No care other than to make sure you dump water into the pools.
7. No weeding ever needed.
8. Action always and fun to watch.
9. No more breaking your back digging up any soil.
And the colour of some of those flowers...........especially the purple ones! You would not be able to resist. :-)
Funny, the ONLY I cannot seem to grow comes from my own state and extends down to just about where you are. It's the "Cobra Lilly." Constructed like a Lobster Trap with false windows of light, once its prey steps inside its had it as it can't find its way out before it topples to the bottom for the meal of meals. Yummy! (For the plant that is.)
All of the rest are tropical but will grow in this climate very well as they would down your way.
Perhaps a new way to garden for your customers?
Take care Ken
Justin~
That's my kind of garden!
