Hi all,
I just found this great product (in Walgreens) called Perm for a Day.
It consists of little U-shaped pieces of plastic, around which you wind
your damp hair in figure-eights, then clamp it with a small plastic harness.
When dry, I got this terrific perm-like set of S-waves that last very well --
it looked really nice (if I do say so myself ;*)! They're really quick and
easy to use -- the only drawback (for me) is that I probably won't get
a perm now, since this seems to have most of the advantages (except
actually sitting in the salon) and none of the disadvantages (harsh chemicals,
radical appearance change, etc.). Check it out!

What about drying time? How did you dry your hair? I can picture myself at work with this silly gizmo in my hair all morning.
I also had a "Perm for a DAY" but had it done at a salon. The stylist did it with small perm rods and a huge dose of setting lotion. The whole thing took about an hour and a half and cost $15.
The results were great. It was a tight curl sort of afro that held for a few days. I'd recommend this way for anyone with the time to get it done.
Of course finding a friendly salon and stylist is important but usually the mall salons are best

I used about 12 of the U-shaped rods; I think there were 18 in the package.
I left them in overnight (they weren't too bad to sleep on), although you
could probably dry them with a hand-held hair dryer, since most of the hair
is exposed. In fact, the package says it will work with dry hair, and after
a very short demo, maybe 5 minutes, the demo strands were already pretty
curly. The package only costs $5 or $6 bucks, it's easy to use, and the
results are really dramatic, at least on me, and my hair's pretty fine (and
no, I'm not paid to say any of this ;*).
I do appreciate Bill's comments, though; I'm looking forward to a salon
"temporary" -- sounds luscious!

I have medium length hair and Have it roller set once a week. Some times I have it set in perm rods. It takes about 20 Min for the set and another 30 under the dryer I really enjoy it .
