Hi. My name is Alex, and I had a question about facial hair. I'm trying to grow in a goatee, and I have a little mustache line above my lip, and I have a few, few hairs on my chin (I can literally count them). I also can see several coming in on the front of my chin, but they don't seem to come through yet. I've heard that shaving everyday or every other day helps it grow in faster and thicker, and I've also heard that shaving doesn't help at all. Has anyone here experienced increased growth after constant shaving?
All hair growth occurs in the follicle--which is unaffected by shaving. The presence or absence of facial hair depends upon the number and density of hair follicles.
Well, I am 18 and a half now and I noticed that hair did seem to come back thicker after I had shaved it, especially on my top lip than it had got to last time, but... this is probably just because, at this age, even if I hadn't shaved, it probably would of just kept growing anyway. That is, by the time it grew back again, I was older than before!
About the hairs on the chin, I had exactly the same stage as you. First I got hairs underneath my chin mainly, now I can count a few on the front of my chin working their way up. I'm afraid you will just have to wait until you are a little older before you get these hairs (even if it is only a matter of waiting a few months, that could be all that is left for you to wait!)

N.B: Remember that different people get more hair than others and also some get their's when they are younger. The fact that you are at this stage now means that you are nearly there!
I didn't have any significant facial hair until I turned 21 or so.
I was really hoping I was going to be one of the "lucky ones" who
wouldn't develop facial hair - I detested the thought of shaving.
But it came in with a vengance - so I said "Hell with it" when I
was 34, and let the beard grow. At least I only have to neaten up
the beard once a week or so, instead of shaving every day! I still
could do without it though, unlike my long hair that I dearly love!
If you *want* facial hair, it'll most likely come - just hang in there!
