Hey Dave,
That is just SO cool there, it's great to see our resident artists like yourself, Justin, and Luckskind at work. I was wondering what program you use to achieve such magic? I recall Justin uses Black Magic to colourize back and white photos from as far back as the 1800's to make it look as though they were colour photos taken yesterday. I am HOPELESS at art myself, all the talent in my family belonged to my mom who passed it on to my older brother.
All the best,
David (AKA one of the other Dave's)
Hi Dave, I use Photoshop, but alas the elements are not mine (only the face), so it was just a 'mess-a-round' and therefore could never be 'used' in the public domain.
cheers, Dave
Nuttidave, man, what is UP, bruh?!
Very, very nice PhotoShopping, duuude!
That reminds me, man, just three years ago I and a fellow classmate (from thirty years ago!) had an exhibit of our then current pieces.
Mine were seven-by-three and three-by-two foot photographic collages that I'd had printed on roll-up-able white vinyl. That is when I'd last had hair down to my hip, my preferable length, which I shall yet achieve again! I am well overdue for another show, I daresay! Thank you for motivating me, Dave.
I have GOTTA scan and put some of these pieces up here. Oh, BTW, the artists' collective now showing at the same place I had, Gillard's Store Room Gallery, Bronxville, NY, have their stuff at http://coffeedrome.com also . . .
Yours in longhaired (and soon bearded) camaraderie,
Quenyan (+;-)}
Thanks Quenyan, I really look forward to seeing some of your art, and also your beard. Keep the faith in continued growth.
Peace, Dave

No one in my family is/was an artist.
Perhaps we are born with the gift but then it must be nurtured and
later on developed through extensive training and education.
There are also many artists out there who have had no formal training and who are doing well but...
...I think every artist benefits from a basic knowledge of art history.
Nice composition! A strange, mythological world.
Looks mushroom-induced, almost.
No mushrooms, just a 'nutti' mind.
Dave that is really cool and you say that was only a mess around. I'm impressd.
Kevin
Thanks Kevin, your too kind.
Dave, that is just so neat! I love it and wouldn't have the slighest idea of how you ever did it. I work between two programs to colour B+W photos to look as if they were actually shot in colour to begin with. And the older the photo, the more difficult it becomes, but as in the example above of Frederick Chopin (1810-1849)that I have coloured, at least one can get an "idea" of just what the person probably looked like
in real life. Newer B+W photos if done well cannot be detected as ever having been taken from a B+W.
I think you should frame this creation of yours. To myself it is like a true art form.
Justin~
Would you believe. This was the very 1st photograph ever attemped that was a success and dates to 1826. But I can't colour it. In fact I don't even know what it is except having read that it was taken from an upstairs window looking down at the street below in Paris France. Hmmmmmm, wonder what Photo Shop could do with this. I wouldn't even know where to begin! :-0
Don't tempt me justin!, It looks as if the Arc De Triomphe may be in the distance.
Hey Dave
Now that you have mentioned this I am actually seeing things in this photo. Note on the RH side of the window what appears to be a statue of a man on some sort of table? Just outside the window on both sides appears to be two decorative heads of birds......probably part of the building decore for ea. window? Looking further out and to the left just has to be a long row of buildings. And of the Arc De Triomphe.............I now see it also, or at least it appears to be it. Hmmmmm...........now I am getting tempted to really study this photo and get to the bottom of it. Imagine if it were able to be colourized to some extent.
Justin~
ps: Just for the fun of it is an 1883 colourized photo I did of Johannes Brahms and Johann Strauss photographed in Germany. I "think(?)" that this one turned-out rather convincing from what I had to work with which was a Sepia Photo.
Impressive stuff Justin.
This image is going to keep me busy all evening - I'll be back after I have run it through some software!!
Hey Dave
I will be running it through something yet to see just what I can see for the better. If I get it well enough I'll try my hand with "BlackMagic" on it. Then back to PhotoExpressions to inhance it to its best. I forgot to mention it, but doesn't a park of some type seem to be in front of the Arc? There appears to be a body of grass with most likely a fountain or small body of water in the middle, and there also appears to be a man down in that area which I think is a park.
Well, if you can stand one more, here is a photo of myself at the age of 8 along with my sister and one of our aunts that was taken from a good condition B+W which I colourized. Yikes! At age 8 I should have been on the Buzz Board!
Justin~
Thats amazing, the colours are tremendous, and just look at little Justin, what a great piece of family history, thanks for sharing this with us.
all the best Dave
Well, I reckon there is two people looking over towards maybe the Arc De Triomphe.
mmmmm, dunno
Hi Justin,
Wow that's amazing as I didn't know you were an artist as I've just read from DavidN's post. I'm sure you are very talented and hope you will share some more of your work with us soon.
As we have talked about my photography before, I've never photoshop'd anything as it's nice to see photo's are they really are and you get a great sense fulfillment from what you see in your eye and take.
Cheers,
John.B
I would like to 'photoshop' one of your pictures (symapathetically of course) just to show you how it 'can' enhance an image.
Thats excellent Justin, and I'm sure its not ALL the software, you have a great input to how good the end result will be.
Thanks for you comments Justin!!
A very impressive picture you have posted there.
John.B
Thanks john, but I agree with you, its best to not mess with photography, photo manipulation software can be dangerous in the wrong hands.
That is killer, Dave...nice work. You should make that your avatar.
LOL, thanks gman, but I don't think Bill and Oren would be very happy with me using all that bandwidth!!
Avatars all have to be 80x80 pixels, so the bandwidth they all take up is about the same.
Bandwidth is not really an issue for the site, by the way. We get 100 gigs a month and we use about 25. Issues if one uses a lot of bandwidth center more around whether one might irritate the troops than around whether one might irritate the treasurer.
Bill
100 gigs a month!! Wow thats even more than BB King.
Hey Dave, such interesting work. I'm always amazed at folks with artistic ability such as yourself. Keep up the great work!
Cheers,
Max
Thanks Max, really great to hear from you again.
Take care, Dave
Sweet, dude! That's really excellent. The colors blend well. I love the "pagan" or Wicca-esque quality to it; the figure in the background reminds me of the horned god, or a dryad, perhaps. The fairy is beautiful. But what takes the whole wedding cake is the crown of leaves on your head - it's natural, almost mystical, and just plain cool. Once again...great job.
Peace
Thankyou so much dude, kind words indeed.
That looks really neat, Dave. It makes me want to play around with Paint Shop. I'm getting tired of using the same old effects though....maybe I should look into getting a new program :-)
Looks like we have another artist on the board.Definately a cool image as its worthy of being in the gift shoppe.Very cool.Mark
