To Dustin, the teenager who has been posting here for the last few months as he grows his hair out:
You have written before that some people are pressuring you to get your hair cut. How long is it now? How do you get out of having to get it cut to please others? Who are the biggest complainers?
Also, I was just wondering how short you wore your hair to begin with, and how long you are going for. You have said that short hair is not "you"; I'm not sure what you meant. Are there some personality traits or something associated with long hair that you relate to?
Thanks.
well currently my hair is about a centimeter passed my ears (about an inch wet). My bangs are about in the bottom of my eyes.
Well at first it was my brother the most because he is the rap type (prep to) so its completely opposite of him, and I think it may scare him some to see me doing something as radical as this, the funny thing is, he has his tongue, nipples, and ears pierced. My parents recently started wanting me to get it cut because it does not look clean right now, I explained to them, its the awkward stage, its not going to look clean. My brother is certainly the biggest complainer, but as he is going to the marines on august 6, I don't have much to worry about. To fend off from him, I either ignore him, debate with him, or tell him, you touch my hair I'll take a bat to your so loved car.
My hair was reasonably short, I did the ceasar cut, then started growin it out alittle, maybe inch and a half before I decided to really grow it out. Of course the bangs were alittle shorter which I am paying for now, well the way I want it is to have everything the same length and then get it layered to get rid of so much thickness, my hair is thick and slightly wavy. I am at the end of month 7 now from my last haircut.
I seem to relate to the hippie culture the most. That and the musician. So that kind of was a motivation for me to grow it out.

I'm not dustin but I'll share my thoughts anyway =)
it seems like in the US, parents and others show a more negative reaction to growing their hair out.
I never really had a problem doing that (I'm still in the awkward stage). If my mom and dad tells me to get a haircut (they do that on a regular basis) i just say "Not a chance", and thats the end of the discussion. They don't even take the haircut think very seriously, it's just become a routine to nag me about it. But it really just motivates me even more to grow it out =)
cheers,
james
