I have hair that comes down to about my chin all the way around my head. I can't find anything that helps me style it. I don't like hairspray due to the helmet effect and I kind of like wax but it leaves my hair looking real oily. Any suggestions? Maybe mousse?

Have you tried putting the wax in in the shower BEFORE shampooing? If not, give that a shot. It will take you a few times to figure out how much wax and shampoo should be used. Shaving cream in the shower over wet hair will also help with the oil. Leave it in for like a minute on the wet hair (after shampooing) and then rinse it out.
Whew, guys! I've read alot about haircare and I don't think wax or shaving cream are good ideas at all. Try using a good conditioner to tame it. Try a strong-holding mousse. You can always comb out the stiffness. Remember, if you damage your hair, it takes a long time to grow it back!
Wax and shaving cream are not bad for your hair. Ever seen a black girl/woman with fairly long hair? It wouldn't be straight like that without the wax. Shaving cream is meant for hair. I use the extra moisturizing kind. It makes facial hair easier to cut by softening and moisturizing it, so why would it be bad for scalp hair?
