This is the paper's comment:
"In a split second outside an Essex railway station, we see the best and worst of humanity.
"A brave commuter instinctively tries to stop armed men robbing a woman security guard of a cash box.
"To the robber, he's not a person, just an obstacle. With an indifference to human life that seems the sickness of our age, he pumps a bullet into the young man.
"Hero Adam Mapleson is left fighting for his life - a life worth a thousand times that of the monster who shot him.
"We pray he recovers to see his attacker locked away for good."
Hi Luke,
Thanks for sharing that story and I'm sure all our thoughts are with him and his family and hopes me makes a good recovery. It takes alot of guts to do that in these moderen times. He seems familiar as I was out a gig that several months ago and at least remember his name.
Cheers,

This is tragic. I read the article. Hopefully this young man will survive, and without any long term disability from this. He is a true hero. He is in my prayers.
The question is how did these thugs get a handgun in the first place? AFAIK citizens in the UK are not allowed to own handguns. I live across the pond, so I am not 100% familiar with your handgun laws. And how much money did they steal? £5000.00 maybe less, and that money is now useless since it is soaked in a red coloured dye. We use the same method here in the states to render stolen money useless. Hopefully these thugs are caught and locked up for the rest of their lives for what they did.

Gun bans only keep guns out of the hands of the law abiding!
I left the UK before the handgun ban, but AFAIK it doesn't apply to .22 weapons, with which it is (just) possible to kill someone if you shoot then in a vulnerable spot. This has no special relevance to weapons used by criminals anyway. You don't get proxy purchases like here in the USA, because the police come to inspect your guns annually, so that stops people from buying guns legally to re-sell to criminals. BTW, the police officer they send to do gun inspections is NOT armed, LOL!
My father used to have several handguns, but moved to Spain before the handgun ban. OTOH, he had to give up at least one due to Spanish limits on the number of guns that one person can own.
I really hope he survives. I have great sympathy for this guy.
I like how the article describes it as showing "the best and worst of humanity." That's so true.
Thank you, Luke, for posting your quotes from the article on this senseless crime, as well as its link (to the article). He's also in my prayers, too.
I suppose it is good to see a longhaired "hero" after all the postings we've seen here depicting guys w/ long hair represented as villains in the entertainment media. I just hope and pray that Adam pulls through w/ no lasting damage. Please, Luke, let us know how things turn out for him, all right?
Well, it reminded me of my two run-ins w/ thieves over a quarter century ago; twice and only two weeks apart each instance, I was robbed, first at knifepoint, then at gunpoint. The only difference in my case is I wasn't hurt and I was completely alone each time w/ no witnesses. Drugs, drug addiction, crime.
I think I'll be re-reading those posts on "Straight Edge" again, one of the reasons that that whole subculture got started in the first place, to not be a slave and live a righteous life.
Thanks again, Luke. We're praying for Adam's complete recovery.

I have an instinctive aversion to the editorial style of The Sun, so when I read a quote like that, I really struggle to empathise with the Victim, which might sound odd, but in spite of what the robber did, to try and dehumanise him with such a vicious editorial is almost as morally reprehensible as shooting a someone in the first place.
On the main point though, I'm not sure what being a longhair has to do with being a hero.
Long time, no post, eh?
Good to see you still around. How long is your hair now? How is all in the Canaries?
Hi Bragi.
Yeah tis I!
My Hair is about at Mid-Back - I've been maintaining this length for about a year. The Canary Islands are pretty much the same as ever... Sub Tropical and Increasingly "Anglocised".
I'll pray for Adam Mapleson, yes he is a hero.Margie
