I made a video of my braiding my hair. I thought it might be helpful for any who are in the process of learning or who want to learn. It took me quite a while to learn it to the point where my fingers are programmed now to almost work on auto-pilot. The most important part is separating the three strands properly.
Hair Braiding Video
Haven't seen it all yet, but once my hair (or bangs, they are shortest) is long enough I'll use that to braid my own hair.
Your hair looks great though, looks really shiny. Nice shirt too, wish I had something like that.
Thank you, Jason! Finally, something that shows how braiding actually was (well not easy but I had no idea how to braid the strands lol). It looks as if you've mastered doing that, it must be difficult to braid the back on your own by specifying so well the 3 strands. Lovely hair as always, very shiny and magnificent length :D
Hi Jason,
Thank you for sharing this with all of us here, as you know VERY well from the LHC, I have having quite a bit of difficulty learning how to braid my own hair, but eventually I will get it! It's keeping track of the three sections that is most difficult for me. As always, your hair is awesome, it is thick and healthy.
David
Cool vid. I know how to braid, I just can't keep my arms elevated long enough to braid my hair.
Great Video really shows the technique well, the other key element is gripping each section between your fingers and passing them from one hand to the other. Easier to watch you do it in the video than explain in words, but once you know what to look for in the video this part of the technique becomes very clear.
Jason. An awesome video. Always wondered how to braid. Will try it sometime. Have been lifting and doing chin ups so hopefully my arms are strong enough to keep elevated for that long. A question for you though. Did you use a mirror or do you recommend using one? peace, jonalbear
Thanks jonalbear. With hair as thick and long as yours I think a braid would look fantastic on you.
I definitely recommend you NOT use a mirror. It may seem like the easier way to learn but it only makes it more confusing. To learn the braiding motion, I would braid my bangs in front of my face. Once I got the motion down, I translated it to the back of my head.
Nice video, hopefully my hair will someday be long enough to braid, by the way what's that song you're playing in the background?
Simon
I'm pretty sure it's Ronnie James Dio. Not quite sure which song it is though.
It's Voodoo by Black Sabbath. Dio replaced Ozzy for two albums. I love both of those albums, Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules.
You make it look so easy ... and I guess it is for most, but I couldn't tie my shoelaces until I was 10. Gonna give braiding my hair a try ... and another try ... and another ... and another ... and who knows, someday I just might post a photo of my hair braided.
Thanks for thaking the time to make the video, it's really good.
Karsten
Thanks Karsten. The key is really practice. Watching TV is a great time because it's not like you're just sitting there and only thinking about braiding. Practice a few tries, see how it looks and then leave it. Eventually you'll get the hang of it. Your hair would look magnificent braided!
Christ... You are really good at that! It looks great too! Thanks for sharing that. If I grow mine much longer maybe it will be long enough for that!
Nice work, Jason. It must have taken a lot of practice to get it right. I'm still trying LOL.
Take care and keep it growin'...and thanx for the tips.
Brett
Hi Brett, nice to see you around.
You'll get it, just keep practicing! :)
Without a doubt, one of the most remarkable postings EVER made to the Hyperboard. Bravo to you Jason as I KNOW the practice it has taken to achieve the skill you have to such an advanced point.
Definately something of great importance to add to the "links."
Thank you ever so much for sharing the video with all of us. (There is one thing about reading how to braid, but another to actually see it being done solo.)
Justin~
Thanks very much Justin. I hope it can serve as an educational tool.
AMAZING! You make "self-braiding" look very easy. Great vid, Thanks for sharing!
Del
What a fun thing to watch, absolutely cool, and I hope it will be the "wave" of the future (no pun intended - lol) to see more MLHH members share vids like this!!!!!!!
The only thing I was disappointed in was that it would have been fun to hear your voice explaining the "how to" part (another pun not inteded) while braiding; but hey, maybe next time! The silence of being on a computer sometimes can be deafening, and hearing a voice can be such a major break-through, --- especially when you've seen a lot of pics and read a lot of writings from someone. Anyway, if I can twist Bill's arm into helping me make a hairy buns video sometime (if he does that sort of thing), I'll try to overcome my own shyness, so all can hear my scratchy, geezerly voice (lol)!!
Thanks again for doing this, & sharing it here!
- Ken
Thanks Ken! There is actually music in the background and not silence in my video. You make a good point though. For future ones, I might say the various steps I'm doing.
I would love it if you would make a video of how you make your buns. I am only beginning to learn how to do that.
Hi Jason
That was an award winning post and I agree with Justin definitely one for the links section. I haven't thought much about braiding as I assumed you needed someone else to do it for you, however now I'm eager to do it myself. I know it will take some practice but well worth it.
thanks very much
P.S. I like Sabbath also. :)
Kevin
Jason, thank you for this. It's educational, clearly comprehensible, and inspiritional all "braided" together.
Pretty soon your hair will outgrow your reach (behind your back anyway). You'll have to to figure out what to do then and post another video!
look for more videos of me putting other styles into my hair. I hope to do the rope braid next. I won't add anything to the Links section until I have a couple more completed.
