It really opened my eyes as to how and why so many people have so many health problems these days, and at such young ages. Myself included. Does anyone else agree?
And, considering the article pointed out shampoos, conditioners, colognes, etc... does anyone know of a good shampoo that I can switch to, that isn't chock full of chemicals? lol
The food supply is nothing more than a commodity whose main purpose is to make money. Food is altered chemically to address this in three ways:
1- Artificial flavors and sugars to enhance flavor
2- Artificial colors to make the commodity visually pleasing
3- Chemical preservatives to extend shelf life
Our "all-too-busy" lifestyles make us a convenience market for fast food and processed food. Trans fats and corn syrups as well as other highly refined sugars overwork internal organs- leaving arteries clogged and creates insulin resistance. One's system could be compromised to the point of leaving it susceptible to all manner of chronic ills from diabetes to chronic fatigue to arthritis and cancer. Just because federally sanctioned health "experts" haven't drawn the parallels doesn't mean they don't exist. One would be doing oneself a huge favor by eating simple, natural foods. Read ingredients lists and determine if and where a listed item exists within the natural food chain.
Hair care products, being externally applied don't pose the same health risks as something meant to be ingested but corporations that peddle them have no more of your interests at heart than do those who sell goods loosely labeled as food. Too many people neglect to take responsibility for what they put in and on their bodies, allowing themselves to be gulled into believing that everything available on a supermarket shelf is safe for them. Blame big business if you want to but every consumer is equally culpable as they have the option not to participate in their own systematic poisoning.
Wow, awesome post man... thanks so much for reading that! It's so cool to know other people agree. I don't know if my first post was really relevant to the forum or not, but after reading that website myself, I think I'm going to be making some major life changes. I guess I just never thought of it that much before. But now that I've got a "chronic illness" that requires medication, I'm thinking there's a better way out!! I'm going to make some major 180 turns in my life, or at least in areas of food and other products!! =D
I'm approaching my mid 40's; work out regularly, eat simple, healthy foods and most folks think I'm in my mid 30's. Many a jaw has dropped when I've given my age. My body harbors no long term illnesses or conditions. I don't buy into an interventionist medical establishment that would rather prescribe something instead of harnessing the body's natural recuperative abilities. I'm hoping your issue isn't insulin dependent diabetes because that is an entirely different animal... This is quite off topic... I'm more than willing to help out anyone who is sufficiently motivated to follow through for themselves. If you wish, you can contact me initially through the usual email links on the board and we can establish correspondence on this topic without taking up needless space on this board.
Wow.. I wish I couldn't get any long term conditions!
No, my issue isn't related to insulin or anything like that. It's a skin problem. Google "conglobata" if you have a strong stomach.
Of course, what do doctors tell me? Either they've never heard of it, or they say it's in my genes and I need accutane. Hah. I don't know, I'm just starting to doubt everything...
Well- as I've said and clearly you know-- take charge of what you do to and put in your body... genetics aside you'll avoid many of the ills that seem to be increasingly befalling people these days. Asthma is up despite the air being cleaner than forty years ago... my theory- or very strong opinion- is that we are not properly nourishing ourselves. Diabetes is a given as is cancer. Pharmaceuticals do not profit from prevention- the medical establishment makes its killing (pardon the pun) off intervention.
Good luck with your skin problem... I'm glad it isn't something more serious.
Dear Lurk Ness Monster and everyone else,
IN ADDITION TO WHICH, recently, much to my stunned disbelief, I was told that those of us who take vitamin C supplements (ascorbic acid) AND still drink carbonated beverages, lo and behold, run the risk of contracting blood cancers! How so? Because the sodium bicarbonate used to make the fizz in the pop converts the sodium ascorbate into benzene, a known carcinogen. I swear. Big food, big pharm, big business, big money; they couldn't care less! Nothing changes.
Cheers and selective eating,
Quenyan (+:-)}
Just more reason to avoid sodas- as if there wasn't enough already. One should rely on food for nutrition instead of taking vitamins.
I agree, as I see so many new "food" items everyday come from these
mega conglomerate food companies. I mockingly refer to it all as Soylent Green. Anybody remember the early 70's movie with Charelton Heston. As crazy as the plot of that film was maybe were closer to that than we want to think. LOL
As for hair care alternatives sadly there isn't too much that's not got some chemicals in it, and what is truely natural is truely expensive.
Kevin
There was a movie called Soylent Green?
Yeah I figured it'd be expensive, but..
Hmm maybe I'll just go to the store and pick whichever has the least amount of ingredients.. hah. I don't know.
I suppose it doesn't matter as much as food does, but it does to a certain extent. Well, looks like I have to find a new brand!
Soylent Green was made from ...people! It was a soceity where the masses were un-knowingly cannibals. I didn't see the film, but I;ve read the book.
The film was good for the 70's but the book was much better.
I think it was made in 1973, the book pub in 1966 or 67
I knew someone who tried Uncle Harry's Natural shampoo and really liked it but again a bit pricey here's the link

Well there IS some truth to various things they talk about, but technically everything in the world is a poison because too much of ANYTHING will kill you. Yes even water, and if you think I mean drowning; you are wrong! I mean drinking too much pure H20! It draws salt and other substances critical for survival out of your system and the imbalance kills you.
They are basically correct about mercury.
Trace amounts of fluoride are not dangerous, but large doses have shown to cause cancer in most animals. They are right about people spiking public water supplies with it though; its down right wrong(thank god for unfiltered/unsoftened well water!)
The sweeteners they talk about are extremely subjective, anyone who has taken a 2 or more college chemistry courses will know what I mean. That being the case I will ignore that topic.
They are understating the dangers of chlorine. Its far more dangerous then they are telling you...
hydrogenated oils are also subjective. The effects they describe are mostly from chronic exposure but its varies from person to person.
"It's not enough to just sell you red meat, which is by itself an extremely unhealthy food ingredient that promotes colon cancer, heart disease, obesity and many other disorders"
Red meat is about unhealthy as any other meat. How unhealthy each meat is, varies GREATLY from person to person. I know people who get sick just from eating plainly cooked chicken but can eat 2LB of beef steak and be fine. Every kinda of food can promote cancer and many other disorders. Obesity is not cause by any one factor; generics, eating/exercising habits and ones metabolism are only the basics of obesity.
The chemicals in meats they talk about are harmless in small amounts, infact some of them are good for you in trace ammounts. The problems start when you have heavily processed meats(pepperoni) routinely.
I wont go into the shampoo/toiletries part because almost all of them have warnings about their ingredients. Everyone is too different to make a standard for it
Overall that entire news article is for those who DO NOT realize that most processed foods have lots of added chemicals for shelf life and the like.
What they fail to state is that the human body is EXTREMELY adaptive, how else do you think immunization shots work? Most human bodies can build up defenses against nearly every chemical they talk about. The problem is when people eat certain processed foods too often and their immunity to the chemical fails to protect against the overflow of toxins.
The biggest problem with meat products(primarily beef) that they DONT mention is that unless you cook meat at 118C for several minutes there are many bacteria, inorganic/organic chemicals, and viruses that can make you sick if you are not lucky. If the meat is NOT brown, its not fully cooked PERIOD(.)
You cannot truly "cook" meat unless almost all the water is gone(Cooking it at near boiling temperatures for several hours is almost but quite as good).
Curing meat and dehydration combined for the most part take care of the problems states above.
I went through 12 years of my life (grades 1-12) eating beef jerky, raw carrots, and raw celery for lunch everyday with little exception. If what he said was true about red meats I should be very sick and have cancer by now. But guess what? I do not have cancer(or any signs of it), I am in better health than most people my age(My last doctors check up was 2 months ago).
Overall, if everyone took college level biology, anatomy, inorganic chemistry, and organic chemistry they would understand this stuff and know how to moderate their intake of various chemicals to prevent most problems.
Peace~
About Chlroine: Chlorine gas is BAD stuff... no mistake about it. Chlorinated Hydrocarbon (Methylene Chloride, Carbon Tetrachloride... etc) is also bad for you. However Sodium Chloride is not bad for you, in fact you need a balance of it or else you will die. Too much Water is bad for you, ever heard that "Hold your wee for a Wii" contest? a woman dies from drinking too much water.
Red meat is probably better for your health compared to eating a totally vegan diet. Red meat got a LOT of good protein which your body needs to rebuild itself. Veggies don't have much proteins and in fact you must eat a million different types of veggines in order to stay alive because no one plant provides enough amino acid to sustain you (I learned this in 5th grade science class). In fact if you want to eat a vegeterian diet you should consult a nutritionist, mind you, it will not taste good! I prefer to get all my amino acids from nice juicy steak. Sure it clogs your artery but then again all food got its pro and con... Its better for you to eat a balance of meat and vegetables, meat for protein and vegetables for your vitamins. Dispite its chlestrol or whatever, eggs are a good source of protein and good for health, and tastes good to boot!
Or if you really are squemish then eat a Kosher diet... they are good for you from what I hear...
Beans have protein as does peanot butter so you can get protein without meat. but I hear ya I like a nice juicy steak as well.
Beans taste like crap, and I dont like peanut butter that much... I think I rather live a short enjoyable life than a long miserable life eating nothing but peanut butters...
Eat dem beans, son!
Well, no, I'm definitely not going vegan or anything... that's simply not healthy IMO. What I mostly meant was staying away from foods that are "processed" and have alot of additives. And junk food, which I already do stay away from for the most part..
Exactly. I remember when they banned cyclomates as an artificial sweetner because of it being suspected of causing cancer as tested in rats. What they didn't tell you is that an average male adult would have had to drink over 500 beverages per day over an extended period of time to even come close to the levels tested in the rats.
This article ignores any benefits that may occur with the use of these products.
For example, some poisons have benefits. Chemotherapy is a poison put into the body which kills cancer cells.
The statin drugs have saved more lives than harmed. My cholesterol level normally runs about 285 (it's genetic; this is at the low end in my family); the statin Lipitor has reduced it to 177.
This publication gives no documentation to support their claims. Even if everything they said was correct, I would be suspect of a publication that makes such statements with no documentation.
The key is to do anything in moderation. I will eat a good steak every now and then; it it the exception rather than the rule. Eat healthy for the most part; don't worry about a splurge now and then.
Wow, there's so many aspects to this, I never really thought about it that much. I guess it's almost impossible to go by all the "rules". Thanks for all the info..! =)
I really wish I could just eat healthy food. But I live in a place without a kitchen and cooking food will be expensive and messy for me. The way I see it seems the only way to be healthy is to grow everything yourself and raise livestocks and live independent of anything... which is truely hard unless you are rich. I can't afford "organic food" because they are 3 times as expensive as regular food.
If you wanted to do EVERYTHING independantly you wouldn't have to be rich, You would just have to give up your modern lifestyle and live like that. Make your money through farming etc.
Exactly. Such is life, I guess.
So I hear you're into guitars too?
I build guitars... not so good at playing...
Same.. I always tell people I'm better at building them than playing. LoL
Do you have any messenger screen names?
