Hey everyone, I'm new here, names Bret. I want long hair really bad. My inspiration is Tom Araya, the lead singer/basist from my favorite band, Slayer. Ive been listening to and playing thrash metal guitar for about a year and well... it's time! Muahaha >:) short hair isn't gonna work out too well when youre a thrash metal guitarist! Right now I'd say my hair is an inch all around, so I'd have a ways to go if I started now. About how long do you think it would take for me to grow out my hair to his length? 4 years? Longer? Some details about my hair are 1. that it seems to grow really really fast, 2. I've had it up to about 4inches long and it was really straight with no signs of curvature or curliness, 3. its got good thickness to it. Not too thick, not too thin, just in bewteen (Im Greek), 4. it requires no maintenance. I know it's short but still... I do nothing to it and it's always silky smooth and perfect-ish. I'll try and get pictures asap. What do you guys think?
Hey man, welcome to the board.
Long hair is for anyone, anyone can grow their hair and it looks awesome. I, too, am a fan of thrash metal, stuff like Sadus, Testament, Atheist, Exodus, stuff like that. I'd say it would take you about 3 or 4years to get to mid back, depending on how tall you are and how fast your hair grows. You might not have the same hairtype as Tom, but you can for sure grow it long and awesome looking.
Keep ti growing, keep it metal, and keep us posted.

Hi Bret
Welcome a board,in the 80s i saw slayer at club called La'mours in Brooklyn New York,
I think you might already know this,Kerry King had long blonde hair and he looked so cool thrashing is head ,today he has no hair, hair or no hair he's still a speed demon,it does look cool if a guitar player does have long hair and Tom Araya looks the same now as he did in the 80s,Tom is 42yrs old ( my age) and i think its cool he did not let go of his hair,so keep your hair growing and don't let nobody talk you into cutting it.Margie
Your hair grows fast, it's smooth and straight and has good thickness.
What is the problem ?
Dude, thank god you don't have hair like mine. Even though my hair is dry and grubby at this length that won't stop me growing it. You have everything you need, just let it grow.
It will take time, so don't be too enthusiastic about how fast it grows.
Peace
Leito
my pic is 18 months from a crew cut. best way to find out is quit cutting it.
Stop cutting that means no trims to even things out and start thinking of different styles and ways to go through the awkward stage, hats bandanas etc. Your lucky you have good hair so the end result will be worth it.
Good luck and keep us informed
Look forward to the pic
Kevin
We are our own worst enemies sometimes... Based on your own description of your hair, sounds to me like your mane is the ideal type for growing it long, --- so, what are you waiting for.... an earthquake, or something? Move on out here to San Francisco, and soon enough I'm sure we'll have a Big One to help you get up off your butt and get motivated to grow your own!
