Hi Folks:
Ive a question. Be truthful now Do you all ever get the urge to dust off those clippers, or head to a local barber and sheer your hair off (with, oh lets say a #1 or #2)? I was just thinking this morning as Im preparing for work, how nice the lack of maintenance would be with not having any hair. Just to towel off the head and be done with it seems pleasant. No shampoos, conditioners, gels, sprays, pony tail ties, etc. Perhaps its the beginning of the summer heat contributing to this odd urge. Though I do love my hair, Im certainly not defined by it. Im the same person with long hair that I am with no hair whatsoever. My take on life, interpersonal relationships, spirituality, beliefs, etc, do not change at all based on whats on the top of my head. You all know what Im saying??
Anyhow, regardless of all this, there will be no shearing until August (goal-month) at which point Ill be at 28 months. Peace.

...and that's the honest truth. I've never had hair that short, and buzzed hair brings up in my mind images of scary skinheads with 'bovver boots' ready to kick hippies, pakistanis, rival soccer team supporters and anyone who looked at them funny. Having lived through that, the thought of buzzed hair makes me shudder. Of course, I do realise that it is possible to have buzzed hair without actually being a violent soccer hooligan, but it doesn't help much.
I bet that answer was a surprise, wasn't it?
I've thought about robbing a bank before too, but never actually DONE it either!
The grass is always greener on the other side.

I have never got such urges. I am what Bill calls a "born longhair" on his website and I would never even consider cutting my hair.
I had one buzz cut in my life, about 30 years ago, when I was called for military service, only to be sent back home afterwards because of my excessive weight. I felt awfull until my hair grew enough so that the flies could no longer walk directly on my scalp...
After that I was called twice for miltary sessions and I had to cut my hair short, last time 20 years ago. Both times I was sent back because of my overweight. After that I left my country - Romania - and I was able to grow my hair as I wanted.
I haven't cut my hair in 20 years and there will be no cutting any time in the future.

What it comes down to is do you WANT your hair long or not? Make a decision and take action. OOO and we can chang our minds too.
Whichever path you choose the important thing is to do it for you. We are products of our culture. People look at each other with colored glasses. Some rosey, some not.A bald man with a gotee might be seen as a neo-nazi or a long hair as a biker type...er or you can go across town and the bald man in a buddist and the long hair a Jesusatonian.Whats your perception of you?
I've had my head buzzed, during basic training, and discovered a basic truth. Some heads should ALWAYS have hair! Even if you have to buy it. My noggin is U-gly! And I can't wear a hat off the rack, due to hy XXXL hat size. Without hair, it's bulbous, oddly shaped, and has scars from a childhood with a hyper brother. So far, I'm 43 and have all my hair, but if God decides to relieve me of it. I'll be in the Hair Club for Men! Nobody needs to see this melon bare!
I think it all depends on how long you had your hair & if you think it's time to cut it. Like some people keep their long hair for a long period of time & then one day they say "Hey I think it's time to cut my hair"....but if you only had it for a couple of years & then decide to cut it, then you just wasted time ever growing it out. Me I had hair long enough to get a Pony Tail and it only took a year for it to grow out that long, but then this month I decided to get a buzz cut & when the Barber cut my hair all short, I looked at myself in the Mirror & said "WOW! I look like a boy again" lol and I think I look much better with short hair. So if you think it's time for you to get a cut, then I say go for it man.
DON'T DO IT MAN!!!!!!
Nope never had the urge don't think I will either but who knows.
However its your hair so if you think it not a big deal suit yourself. To each his own.

Hi Vince,
I cut off my waist-length hair back in Y2K. While I didn't go as far as to literally "buzz" it (I had PLENTY of those stupid crew cuts forced upon me as a kid, thank you), I did cut it SHORT (like a typical male haircut length of just above the eyebrows in front, not touching the top of ears on the sides, and no hair touching the collar in back)... only to wake up the next day deeply DEEPLY regretting the decision.
So, NO, I don't entertain the thought at all anymore of cutting my mane off, --- having already impulsively done it once was enough for me!
I agree with you, though, that as much as I love my long hair, I do not want it to literally "define" me. There are plenty of other aspects about me that have nothing whatsoever to do with hair at all. But, wanting to see my hair long goes back as far as I can remember... So, it is an important part of who I am, because it's a part of my history (example: even when I had short hair, I always remember having a burning desire to grow it long, --- and I do mean, BURNING)!
The good news about cutting one's long hair off is that afterwards you definitely discover where your heart is on the topic... If you find yourself DEVASTATED afterwards (like I was in Y2K), then you've learned the hard way that you are indeed a "born longhair", --- and need to make a COMMITMENT to yourself to never cut off your hair ever again!!!! If, on the other hand... your emotions are more like: "Gee, that was a fun phase while it lasted; but I sure am glad to have this fancy new trendy short style now for this summer!",,,, then, well... consider yourself "lucky" that long hair has just about as much meaning for you as changing over to a new style of underwear in the morning!

Hey Ken:
Thanks for your response on this. I appreciate hearing your story. We'll have to see how I feel come August about my hair then. Was funny though, today at the gym I noticed all the other men my age (34) had the shaved, tough guy look going on. I think It would be pretty depressing to look like every other tool you see out there. I do like looking somewhat unique I suppose. Peace-

Hi Vince,
Lately, I have had NO desire to cut my hair off at all, certainly not the drastic cutting you are asking about here. However, I did have long hair most of my life which reached its longest, near mid back, in 1999. I cut it off late that year, and had short hair until early 2004. I had one trim in April 2004, and after that, have had NO desire to cut it. I do have some damage on the ends, and if that damage does not grow out properly, might contemplate a slight trim, but ONLY if I could find someone I trust.
