Hello. I'm Stan. 7 mos. w/o a haircut. I feel that my hair is finally long enough for a photograph and no longer feel I should be lurking. Before I get to the photos, however, I'd like to say thank you to everyone who posts here for the inspiration you provide. Personally, I would like to say that during the past 6 mos. I've really appreciated (in alphabetical order):
Angel (who is so honest and original)
Bragi (who seems to have a great sense of humour)
Chris H (who is consistently supportive of everyone else)
FireInThesky (who is so helpful and sympathetic)
Gman (who remains committed while living in a conservative community)
James Raymond (who somehow makes time for everyone)
Jason (who is so knowledgeable about hair and willing to share what he knows)
Luckskind (who has the hair I wish I had)
nuttidave (who is so positive)
Nyghtfall (who also inspires me on my classical guitar work)
Trolleypup (who is so patient and non-judgmental and takes great photos)
Urban Cowboy (who is so eloquent and droll)
I'm in the fine arts and can get away long hair but since I travel most of the time (Washington D.C., Vancouver, San Francisco, Montreal, Los Angeles, Wellington/Auckland NZ) I kept my hair buzzed (#2) for convenience until 2005, then grew it a bit and kept it relatively short and trimmed...until last November. Having decided to make this long hair journey, I found this board and have looked forward to becoming part of it. I hope that one day I can be as inspiring to others as everyone on this board has been to me. I plan to wait until at least my one-year hair anniversary before officially joining so that I'll have a good picture to accompany my posts. Having learned the basics from you, here's my hair story:
It's naturally about 5 colors.
I wash it twice a week and condition, condition, condition. I'm still undecided about SLS and polydimethylsiloxane and, therefore alternate between products containing these (inexpensive) and those which do not (orgaic and expensive at the health food store!)
It's never been blow-dried.
I only use a wide-tooth comb.
It's now longer than it's ever been in my life and I don't know what to expect in the coming months/years. That's about it.
Here are the photos.
#1 = a publicity photo taken in '05.
#2 = this morning (not a washed day).
#3 = also this morning with more light to show more color.
Since I can only upload one photo at a time. I'll add #2 and #3 as replies to this post once it is published.
Thanks again,
Stan
Welcome aboard Stan.
Its always good to have new and fresh people here on the board. People here are generally supportive ... some more than others; but overall a good group.
Your hair looks great so far. Keep up the great work. How long are you growing for?? :)
Tristan
Your hair is gorgeous. It has a beautiful wave pattern and looks quite silky and soft. What's your goal length?
You should be quite proud!
Very nice!
Welcome to the board.

Hi Stan,
Welcome to the hyperboard! Even though I did not make your list, I STILL would like to extend a warm hello to you. I am SO glad you decided to join, this is a community like no other. Congratulations on your 7 months of growth, your hair looks great, and can only get better the longer you grow it. Keep up the hearty growth, and be sure to keep up updated as you grow your hair longer.
All the best,
David
Hey Stan
First of all I'd like to thank you for mentioning me:).
Your hair looks great, you obviously take good care of it, it really shows.
Keep it growing and keep us posted, it'll look even better in a couple years!
-Mihnea
Welcome Stan....and I am happy to see you have "unlurked"
Personally I think those of us with multi-coloured hair are fortunate and yours really looks great...I look forward to following your progress...going terminal?

Hi Stan,
Glad to see you no longer lurking. I think you will really like longer hair and from what I see that you've posted and with what you've written, I think you'll end up with a quality product in the long run.
SOunds like you have an interesting life. Share that too even if it's not just about hair.
Thanks! Sometimes, you just have to laugh and let things be funny instead of crying!
Hi, Stan!
I am very glad that you decided to become a full-time member of this wonderful community. Your hair looks marvelous already. I cant wait to see what those wavy locks will look like in another 7 months!
P.S Thank you very much for your kind comments about me :-)
All the best,
Christopher
Hey Stan, what is UP duuude?!
You've got a great facial structure for long hair. Hey, I'm an artist, illustrator, and now collagist (see the canvas I'm now working on here) and I heartily encourage ya t' grw yr hair long!
Yours in longhaired camaraderie,
Quenyan (=:-)}
A great set of names! Here are a several more "random ones" that come to mind. (At least mine anyway.)
1. Bill Choisser. (Without him, for all I know, this board wouldn't even still be around for you to post to. He makes sure that all is kept ticking without interuption. He has written a thesis of 4 parts that can be found in the "Links section." It is the Long Hair Bible and has been so to many of us for nearly 10 years! Have you read it?)
2. Absalom (One of great wisdom who gives terrific advice always without exception. And does he ever have killer great long hair!)
3. JohnB (Presently fighting Cancer, and yet STILL contributing things of much interest. ALWAYS in support for those in process of growing-out their hair.)
4. EdG (A long hair hero and inspiration of so many on this board who has been with us for years in support of others. His is the longest hair of all!)
5. DavidN (A dynamo of energy and inspiration ALWAYS.......and the most likable person one could ever hope to encounter! The salt of the earth so to speak. I dare say the likes of him could never be replaced.)
6. ChrisG (Currently very ill, but when able to do so contributes so much. Indeed, his updates would be enough to inspire a Bald Eagle to grow long hair. And does he EVER give support!)
Most likely some of the random names that quickly came to mind have posted you a welcome to the Hyperboard. If not, most likely they may not have seen your introduction.
Justin Penfield
(President MLHH.)
I couldn't agree more with your random list of additional names, Justin; but I suppose if we think about it even longer, more names will come to mind still!
And you are so right about Bill, --- without his amazing talents, this ship would have probably sunk into oblivion along time ago.
- Ken
Hi Justin,
Thank you, Justin so much for mentioning me in your list of names of people that Stan should have included in his list, your kind words mean SO much, I sincerely appreciate them. I also agree whole-heartedly with the names of ALL the guys on your list, Justin, all of these guys have done SO much to make this community the way it is. I love this community like no other and think it is the best site on the internet right now, and like to mention this to any new people who stop in and introduce themselves for the first time. I like to feel as though I have played at least a small part in contributing to this awesome commmunity. And yes, I DID welcome Stan in a posting I made further down.
I do admit that I was a tiny bit hurt not to make Stan's top 12 "hit parade" of contributors to the hyperboard, but I am sure Stan meant no harm, he cannot remember everyone who has posted here, as there are over 200 members, some of whom post to the board more than others.
Perhaps Stan could have introduced himself better by not specifically mentioning his "heros" in his introduction, he is bound to cause a few hurt feelings in any people he left out of his list. A generic, "I appreciate the support and wisdom of everyone here" or something to that effect, may have been a better introduction by someone who has never posted to the hyperboard before.
And one last word, Justin. I do believe that YOU should have been on the list as well! Don't forget all YOU have done in this wonderful community, none of us regular members can EVER forget that!
Thanks again, Justin, and take care,
David
Group dynamics are a strange animal. If I had not been mentioned on Stan's list, I would not have cared the least. And, why? Since we all come here with different personalities and backgrounds, what someone else picks up on and pays attention to will often be far different than the next guy. For instance, I may view a work of art and notice all the detail that went into the tree leaves or the use of shadows; the next guy may see the way in which the emotion on the faces of the people in the work "speak" to him. And just as one guy's style of posts may appeal to someone else, the next guy may see nothing in them. For me, some people's posts to me are hilarious and make me laugh, others don't. I think some members come in with a good bit of sarcasm or humor whereas I don't get that from others. Either way, I still like everyone, even if I don't connect with them.
Even in real life, in a class or meeting or any type grouping, the same thing happens. I had a class one semester where I got to know someone to my right very well while I never talked to the guy on the left. It just didn't click.
Thereby, making a further list only excludes those others who may contribute in other ways that the maker of following list would not notice. Lists can get tricky since a revision of a list to include other things that the first list left out reflects that the second maker then puts in further exclusionary factors re-opening the selectionary process opening up a crisis of subjectivity without possibility for objectivity. It's kind of like selecting works of literature or any art based on "higher truth and seriousness" - the question then becomes "Whose higher truth and seriousness?" Whether Mozart is better than Chopin or Homer is better than Milton can never really be decided when each judge brings to the table a different set of experiences and values.
I think Chaucer and John Phillip Sousa are great, but the next guy may like Dante and Sibelius. However, another might wonder how I could have ever dared to forget to mention Vergil since he just loves the Aeneid! But, by not tapping Vergil as one of my favorites, I didn't slight him in the least. His work stands firm; I either hadn't read it lately, or it just didn't "speak" to me.

Hi Stan,
WOW, am I ever flattered to be included on your list! I had to look up in the Dictionary, though, the meaning of the word, "droll"... (Lol, --- OK, I'll accept that as a compliment, too!!)
Besides the comments and the additional list of names that Justin added, it also might be helpful to you to mention the name of the guy who started this site in the first place. His name is Victor, and is from Texas (the Austin area, I believe). He started the MLHH over 10 years ago, originally just as a personal hobby. He rarely posts nowadays; but I think it's still nice for all to know his name and give him credit!
Anyway, WELCOME, Stan, --- and your hair is off to a GREAT start!!!!
- Ken in San Francisco
Hi Stan,
Welcome and thanks for the kind words. I certainly think your hair is long enough now to have a great avatar. I hope you decide to get listed in the users' directory sooner rather than later.
Jason
I offer my sincere apology. It was not my intention to slight anyone. In my post I began by thanking everyone on the board and afterward specifically mentioned some people whose posts had been particularly meaningful and helpful to me. After that I again thanked everyone on the board and even closed my post with thanks. Again, it was not my intention to slight anyone. I promise not to be so specific in the future. For the last six months this place has been an important place of encouragement to me and I'd hate to lose that.
I accept your apology, Stan!
I realize that not everyone's style of posting will appeal to you, as everyone has a different style, some humourous, some more serious, perhaps my style is not your cup of tea. My philosophy has ALWAYS been to support everyone in their hair growing journey the best way I can, and I have EVERY intention of supporting you in your goals as well. Rest assured that you are 100% welcome on the hyperboard, and I look forward to following your progress to long hair. You have NO fear of losing the support and encouragement that the MLHH can give you.
I suggest you contact Oren, so you can get listed in the directory, and so that you can get an avatar as well.
David
you mean people are offended over not making your list? God, get over yourselves folks. This is the reason why I almost never post a compliment about someone's hair. So many people are hypersensitive it's like you have to compliment everyone if you compliment one person, or their feelings get hurt. It was nice of you to thank some members of the mlhh stan, and take the time to recognize them for their contributions.
Hey Stan, Welcome. Great start on the hair there also, looks great! You mentioned you work in the fine arts and travel a bit. Can I ask what you do? you can write or email, either is great! Hope all is good and welcome and take care! longhairedone
Hi there Stan...you certainly found a great place to hang out at while growing your hair long. It's a great community of people here...very knowledgeable and very supportive. So, welcome! Your hair is looking excellent so far and I dig the colors very much. The days when your hair drives you mad just come to the board here. I've saved myself from myself a couple times by poking around the board. Congrats on giving long hair a try! It's quite a journey filled with both challenges and rewards. It's all worth it, though. Best wishes, ~Gman
Hi Stan and welcome. Your is looking great for 7 months, you know you have a cool Roger Waters ex Pink Floyd going on there.
