Hey guys,
I have thought over this for sometime and decided from december 2006 to grow my hair and let nature take its course. Originally I had it very short now its gone close to my shoulders. I no longer care what society thinks of me I have always been an individual not a crowd follower and I am confident long hair will attract people who appreciate me for WHO I am NOT what I am.
Carefully looked after hair represents self pride and individuality as a man.
Here is my picture! and I expect to have hair like Legolas in Lord of the Rings (one day).. I kept the red eye thing for individuality purposes!
Anyone have any tips on how to look after long hair? do you use brushes instead of combs or both?
do you let your hair dry first before attempting to comb it??
Hello man !
gGad to see another (future)longhair !
Personally, I use brushes instead of combs. I brush my hair every morning. (And I let it dry before attempting to brush it, of course).
Bye,
Vivien
Hi Ryan, and welcome to the board!
With that excellent attitude, you should go far! I also decided to let nature take its course and to heck with what others think! Fortunately, it's not uncommon to see guys with medium to long hair where I live.
Well, that's why we are on this board. With all the experience that these guys (and gals) have taking care of long hair, we can't go wrong!
I love the hair that the elves have in the Lord of the Rings movies. I understand that many, most, if not all, of them use hair extensions. Unfortunately, it's not natural but is necessary considering the time frame that movie production requires. Still, one can dream, right?
I comb. I may try brushing as it gets longer.
I use my fingers in the shower to untangle my hair as it rinses. Then I press down on my wet hair to get out excess water. Then I use a dry towel to blot the hair. I used to just run my towel over my head any old way, but no more. Finally, I carefully use my comb with my fingers to work my hair out straight and evenly over my head so that it can dry evenly. As it continues to grow, I may change my technique.
Just let it be, and keep it growing.

Welcome to the Dark side RyanS!!! ;-)
Below, You will find a link that answers most if not all of your questions. The link was created by Bill Choisser. A very revered figure around here.
Hope this helps
Looking like Legolas is always good. As is looking like Aragorn. :-)
I use a brush and a comb. I finger comb, comb, and then brush to detangle my hair when it's dry. I always do this prior to showering, and I find that tangles are greatly reduced. I also finger-comb throughout the day to keep tangles at a minimum. When my hair is wet, I usually comb it just enough to get an alice band or bandana on it, and then I'll let it dry like that.
Good luck, and welcome to the board!

Welcome Ryan, you'll make a great addition here, as even though this is a wonderful/community we have going on here at the mlhh, it is also filled with people just like you: creative, confident in themselves and wanting to look good!
Mores specifically...
Indeed
Look forward to seeing your progress elf-style!
Really depends on your hair type and you may not even have to brush or comb.
It's good for getting the natural hair oils through though. But doing it too harsh may cause splits.
Personally I just detangle with my hands everyday, especially after having my hair in a ponytail all day (or days! I mean I am in my last undergrad year at Uni)
It's probably best as when your hair is wet is also when it is at its weakest.
Again, welcome!
