So if hair on average grows 6inches in a year, then in 3 years would everbody who's growing their hair out might have atleast 18 inches or over of hair? Just wondering if everybody is like the same.
Usually, yes. 6 inches is just an average. There are various factors that can affect hair growth, such as genetics, nutrition, etc.
Also remember that when people say "3 years," that may just be 3 years since their last real cut. Perhaps they started with a few inches of hair. You also have to factor in maintenance trims.
some will have more. All heads of hair are not the same. It depends on growth rate and growth cycle in years. Growth rates can be as slow as 4 inches per year, and for some, very rare, fortunate souls, as much as 12 inches per year. The growth cycle can vary from 2 to 7 years. There are rare cases of growth cycles of over 10 years. Mine is about 7 years and my hair grows about 6 inches per year. 42 inches would be consistant with this. The longest measured shed strand from my head was 44 7/8 inches.
If you have a 4 inches per year growth rate and a 7 year cycle, your hair would grow to 28 inches.
If you have a 7 inches per year growth rate and a 2 year cycle, your hair would never reach 18 inches, but max out at 14.

How do I figure out my hair growth cycle? Do you think my hair has a 2 year growth cycle cause it sure seem like it hasnt grown any more...
How would i ago about measuring my growth cycle and whatnot??
That can be difficult and can take many years to determine. My hair length tells me that mine is about 7 years. I think mine grows about 6 inches per year.
A sure way to tell if your hair is still growing longer is to measure your longest shed strands. Another way is to measure your ponytail length every 2 months or so.

Hi Sunia,
The AVERAGE growth rate is around 6 inches per year, but this varies depending on the individual. My growth rate is below average, closer to 4-5 inches per year. I just passed the three year mark and my LONGEST strands are around 18 inches, but I started with around 4 inches in April, 2004. However, I am aware of some guys who post here, (eg. ChrisG and Gylfi), whose hair grows at nearly twice that rate, just under 1 inch per month. It's all a matter of genetics, and to some degree, age (but only for some people), as I have noticed a slowdown in growth from my youth, when my growth rate was at or above average.
Hope this helps,
David
My hair doesn't grow as fast as most people's hair. Plus I've had three trims in almost 4 years, but even without any trims, I'd only be at about 20 or 21".
My blog
Yes, 18 inches is 45 cm, if I don't do any mistake, and after almost 3 years, my longuest strands are about 45cm ;) But I fear my hair grow no more... :(
bye,
Vivien
At the end of the first year I started growing my hair out, it had grown nine inches. My sister however, her hair doesn't grow very fast at all. I think its grown maybe 4inches in the last year. I think its just up to luck as to how fast a person's hair grows.
