Hey Guys..
Here is my June 1st hair update.. Taken from high on top of Lookout Mountain at my home in Colorado.. about 8,000 feet above sea level...
Be Blessed..
Tristan
Hey, Tristan!
You're makin' me so homesick! I'm living in Tucson AZ, but I'm originally from a little town south of Colorado Springs. The picture looks like the places where I used to go camping in the summer. Thanx for the the great memories!
BTW, the hair is looking great! Keep it growing!
Lon
So you probably know where Elbert is; I will be there for a week next month in the thriving metropolis of Elbert, Colorado.
Yes ... I think its somewhere between Denver and the Springs. East a bit... Never been there.. at least not yet.
Blessings,
Tristan
Lon:
Thanks for the encouragement.. I know what you mean about homesick.. if I leave for any long period of time I miss this place. Once you've lived here ... there is no other place my friend.
Be Blessed..
Tristan
Hi Tristan,
Your hair is looking superb in this picture, thick and healthy, you have come such a long ways from your avatar. I am at a loss for words at the beautiful scenery in Colorado, what a gorgeous view to greet you every morning! Keep up the great work on your hair growing journey, perhaps I will even get to Colorado on my "road trip" in 2009 and meet you at that time.
All the best,
David
Hey David..
Thanks for your encouragement ... means alot coming from "Dad" :)
I'm loving my hair more and more every day.
You should add Colorado to your tour in 2009. There are places here that most people only dream about... as you can imagine.
Be Blessed..
Tristan
Wow! Hey, Tristan, that is some awesome growth! It's great to have another Denver-area forumer on here, as it was getting kind of lonely for awhile there. =P Anyways, keep up the awesome growth. Not sure where I'm doing my next update yet, but with the mountains so close and serving as the perfect choice for a backdrop, who knows... =) Take care!
-James
Hey James;
Thanks for your response! I agree. There are so many places here to do great updates ... I will be at a year in August so I'm thinking Pike's peak might serve well. It will definately be a 14er! Anyway, looking forward to your next update. When do you have to go back to school?
Be Blessed..
Tristan
I'll be leaving Colorado right at the end of July, but I don't start classes again until August 20th or so.
Excellent.. you'll have plenty of time for another post then..
from some awesome place here. We're looking forward to it.
Tristan
Wow. Awesome view there. I'm jealous!
Peace
Its quite a place..
Tristan
Wow, that's really high! I have been on Bald Mount - almost 4000 feet high and it was terrifying vertigous look down there, so...congratulations, you're really brave man!
I didn't get too close to the edge.... I'm not as "sure footed" as I used to be... :)
Tristan
Hi Tristan, That is a very great backdrop to frame an awesome head of hair you have coming along. Your hair has that wavy, full quality that will have you ending up with some great looking long hair. Actually, right now, it looks very cool as it is. I hope all goes well with your continued growth.
I have a question though I just thought of. I think I remember you saying that you were in seminary. Is this correct? Do you feel like having longer hair will be OK when you get through? I'm not trying to stir up anxiety or put you on the spot, but here on this board, we get so many tales of woes associated with jobs and long hair that the question begs an answer. Maybe, in your area, Colorado, this would not even be a problem at all. I truly hope not, for I really believe that long hair suits you to a "t." And, did you have to learn Classical Greek in seminary? I have been wanting to study it, but haven't ever had the opportunity.
Bragi
Hello Bragi..
Thanks for your encouragement with my ever growing locks. :) I love my hair more and more the longer it gets. I'm just impatient and want it long like yesterday!
Yes ... I am in seminary. However I'm only in the first year so far so I really only have my spiritual Pampers on as of yet! LOL.
As far as long hair goes.. that is a completely fair question. There are verses in the Bible that state long hair is shameful to a man.... However, I look at the context of the Scriptures and derive what I believe is of the utmost importance. I've always tried to look at the heart of a person rather than the outside. I belive that true Christianity is not what organized religion has become. For me ... its about knowing people for who they are, accepting them, and loving them the way Christ loves us. Its about relationships. I have been at fault at times for speaking too quickly (even on this board) and have regretted it later.. There is so much to learn from one another... In any case, I only wish that more people could see Christianity for what its supposed to be ... and not what it has become.
-Sorry .. this may have turned into something longer than you anticipated. Greek ... Biblical Greek is what will be required from me. I plan on taking that next year. (Along with Hebrew as well).
Be Blessed my friend...
Tristan
Hi Tristan,
I have picked up several things here and there and read on the subject of long hair in relation to Christianity. I won't go into a big thesis, but just put it in a nutshell and you can read the rest for yourself. To begin, Paul's verse about long hair appears in Corinthians - written according to what he preached in Corinth in Southern Greece. In context, according to what I've read, he was preaching to men who impersonated women as prostitutes and women who did the same impersonating men, either growing or cutting the hair to match. Shame as well is not the same thing as sin. Also, in another view, the Corinthian men were perhaps also growing long hair to emulate the Spartan warriors who were renowned for long hair. Sparta was in Corinth. (I made a post about this some days ago under "THIS IS SPARTA!!!").
Also in Eastern Orthodoxy, the churches of Greece and Eastern Europe, the clergy in the past did NOT cut their hair and beards at all. To some extent, this is not as true today, but, obviously, they had Scriptural basis for doing so. I found a long article about this as well and will find the web link if I can.
Just as you, I can't see a Diety judging anyone on the length of his hair. That is almost blasphemy to assume so; it's giving human qualities to a Diety and assuming that said diety would act according to petty human emotions. I'm glad to hear your approach to religion and wish you all the best in your studies. I found a quote once by Mahatma Gandhi, paraphrased, who said the "The problem with Christianity is not that it's been tried and found lacking, but that it's hardly been tried at all." It's good that you're trying it! This is bold to say, you may or may not agree, but it seems to some extent that religion ruins spirituality, and more focus on the spiritual aspects of Christianity are more what it's supposed to be than rote and ritual of proscribed religion.
See you later, Bragi
Bragi;
I couldn't agree with you more with your whole post. Paul was speaking (in context) to the church at Corinth in order for them to make sure they were "set apart" from prostitutes in order to be an effective witness. Theologically; I feel I can be "set apart" as Paul describes- with the fruits of the Spirit than of physical criteria.
I liked the quote you gave from Gandhi. It is so true. I personally don't consider myself religious.... I would even go as far as to say I hate religion! Religion would tie me to a set of rules that I obeyed out of fear and demand. That is a path of legalism that is NOT what Christianity is. Like you said; its a spiritual relationship; a relationship that gives people more freedom then anyone is capable of even trying to explain on paper in words! It must be lived and experienced.
Be Blessed my friend..
Tristan
Very nice update, no question. And the scenery? Fabulous!
Thanks for the encouragement ...
Tristan
Hey Tristan,
What a glorious view! Colorado is just so beautiful. I'm glad you're able to get out to see it up close through hiking. Your hair's really coming along. With its thickness, it's going to look really incredible as it lengthens. Don't let anyone dissuade you from growing it!
Jason
Hey Jason;
When I first found mlhh; your website was the one that really inspired me to go for it .... Thanks. Your journey has been quite remarkable. I understand when you say your hair journey somewhat reflects your life's journey. I'm with you on that.
Yes .. Colorado is really awesome. You've been to Boulder so you know what its like out here. Plenty to do and see. Hopefully you can return someday for a visit..
Be Blessed.
Tristan
Ephesians 1:16
Thanks for posting, Pastor,
Great scenery, nice progress; ya gonna do the full apostles look w/t moustache and beard? And, Tristan, stealing time in God's country as you are, notice that your senses are heightened, seeing that you're away from the madness of crowds?
Blessed Be,
Quenyan (+;-)}
Hey Quenyan;
Dude... I wish I could do the whole beard thing... But I'm not blessed that way. - Only a thick mop on top for me. :)
Spending time in the great outdoors resonates loudly with me ... you know... only when you're quiet can you really hear whats going on ... That kind of stuff. I dig it.
Thanks for the response..
Tristan
Wow! Thats pretty steep man!
Anyhow, You're making awesome progress! Your hair seems very healthy and has some very cool waves :-) Also,It looks much fuller and longer compared to your avatar picture. I can't wait to see what it will look like at the 1 year mark!!!!
P.S Nice shades :-)
Hey Chris..
Whats up man? Thanks for the response. I hope this hair awkward phase passes quickly ... I wake up in the morning and you wouldn't believe what a mess it looks like sometimes... LOL
Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to post it ...
Tristan
Very cool, man! Your hair looks excellent, and that view is just spectacular. Long hair and mountains go great together.
Keep it growing, dude.
Peace
Thanks ...
I'm finally getting used to my hair falling down in my face.. its a cool feeling.. :)
Be Blessed...
Tristan
Coming on really well, long hair isn't too far away!!
Thanks... I am really starting to enjoy the journey. - especially through this board..
Tristan
Looks great! your hair in your profile pic looks somewhat similiar to mine (just past the 5 month myself) and gives me an idea of how it will look in the future. Can I ask how long you have been growin your hair for in this pic?
Absolutely ... in this pic I've grown it for 9.5 months. However; I started from a totally shaved head; so I'm a bit behind most guys at this point.
Good luck with your growth.
Tristan
Hey Tristan (great name btw, is it real though, or just a handle if you don't mind me asking?).
Don't think I said so before, so: Welcome to the Board!
Really great to have you here.
And that scenery is really amazing. You're very lucky to live there (& the air must be really pure!)
Great progress too :-)
