Hey guys. My name is Antley and i just started to grow my hair long n i could already tell how difficult it to even maintain it, let along make it looks nice n good daily....reason i started was that i was planing just to shave my head in hopes to stop my dandruff problem so i was thinking if i were to do that i might as well grow it out to the max b4 i shave it. on that process of thinking i was like i should let my hair out and try other hairstyles b4 i regret doing at least this once in my lifetime. By getting inspiration from anime n other male character with cool longish hair i started since like November of 2006 and its great getting priceless reaction from my friends and family. by February i dont wanna do this half way and quit so i made a bet with my cousin ,Amy, to c who have the longer hair that time in 2009 reward with b ice cream on the loser treat it was stupid i no but a bet is a bet. i didnt expert to go that far and seeing how my parent just keep bitching about my hair and said it was stupid to do this bet with my cousin. so i was planing to just give up on the bet, get her sum damn ice cream and just keep letting my hair grow just to spike my parent. bitch... anyways its my hairs like getting neck-ish long n i actually like to get sum advice from my long hair seniors on making through this process. advice on maintaining it, how to make it look good, haristyle to try out on the way, something that can b done to that strand of hair thats in the way of my eye etc. also sorry i cant upload any or current pic. My camera suck ass right now so ill upload one eventually on my next update so yea thanks a lot for reading my story
Hi and welcome!
If you want to let your hair grow long, you have to explain your parents that the hair grows on YOUR head, not theirs. Also, even if you're financially dependent on them, the hair are completely belonging to YOU, they didn't pay for it.
On the other side, your parents should know, that long hair looks the neater, the longer they are, so you have to pass the awkward stage as soon as possible and everything will look all right. There is no sense in trimming or haircut during that stage.
If they don't respect your wish then they probably need some upbringing, to stop these senseless attempts for control. You have a right to make choices, maybe its the time to gain some respect.
Welcome Antley,
Growing longhair is no simple thing as you may know from reading posts here. People get frustrated and cut it all off then regret it. There are tons of suggestions on hair care we could give but it may be easier to check out Bills link "On being a longhair"
There is loads of good information that may help you. As for styles for the awkward stage when it's in your eyes etc well it depends on your tastes. what I would do may not sound good to you but Bandanas, hats, Gels, hair spray etc etc you have to play with it and see what you like and or are willing to tolerate.
I wish you well on your longhair journey and believe me it's worth it when you arrive. Here's the link below

Antley, your English, though not your native tongue, is honorable. You meant " . . . to SPITE your parent", not to "spike", surely not a reason to be a hair farmer like us. But, stay, please, your life might transform for the better. And hey, your cousin Amy and her ice cream bet! What kinda motivation's that!? Wehyull, Antley, what's YOUR take on this bullcrap in North Korea. Mandatory buzz cuts. Hello Fourth Reich! Keep posting, keep growing!
Yours in longhaired camaraderie,
Quenyan (+:-)}
