Hey everyone, I realize this is the long hair board and the length I am trying to obtain is probably considered more of a medium length to you guys, but none-the-less, it is the length I'm looking to achieve and I'm just looking for a bit of advice/help.
Below are a few pictures of the length I want to obtain:

Those all seem roughly around the same length (at least they do to an amateur long hair observer like me, lol)
Here are a few pictures of my current hair. I have not had a cut since March 9th.

Should I go about trimming/thinning it out at all? Nothing is really bothersome except for my sideburns are getting pretty long and are not yet at the point where I can really put them behind my ear.
Hmmmmmm Jordan no need to trim or have your hair thinned, besides you can trim your sideburns yourself.
I would say between 3 to 6 Months to obtain the length you seek & yes its classed as shaggy to medium length hair !
Axel
6 months and you can have a style like that easy.
i have been growing for 9 months at an average or maybe a little slower growth rate. i had a slight trim about a month ago and my hair is a little longer than in these pics. so assuming you have an average growth rate i would guess that you will reach this length in 4-5 months. 3 if your fast and 6 if your slow. good luck!

That's not even medium length. That's short.
My thoughts exactly.
So did you guys just post to be jackasses? This length is long to me and it's what I'm going for. It's not necessary for you to come on and post that it's short. Thanks to those who actually replied and gave some advice.
That length is perfectly fine for you and I understand that it is long for you. Some perusal through the various links ought to give you some idea what this site is all about and where many of its members are coming from.
For most of us "long hair" is long enough to easily fall on the shoulders and more than a look, it is the flash point of conflicts in the workplace and at home where your goal length is none of that. A major point of this site is to offer such men moral support and styling advice where none exists in the mainstream. The style you're aiming for, while a very pleasing look aesthetically, falls within the mainstream- you'll find an abundance of tips and advice as well as stylists willing to cooperate in your quest without pushing more pertinent discussion further down the page. I also doubt that your target length will net you much discrimination in the work force or garner parental threats to forced cutting should you remain "headstrong" in your clearly "rebellious" ways.
The posts that you took such umbrage with were from the perspective that this site is for the purpose of the vast minority who deal with societal slurs and discrimination-- in the backs of some minds here there may well be the lingering question as to your purposes... clearly that was a misunderstanding... but to equate your journey with what many here have to deal with might be taken as trivializing what are real issues.
Yeah, think about it. You came onto a long hair board to ask how long it would take you to grow your hair to that length, which is hardly long at all, abit silly, you can expect stupid comments back.
A few more months... and yes, a trim would help you out. Just tell the stylist what you want.
I think they'd be able to help you out about getting that style more than us, frankly. I'm sorry you felt that some of the responses were rude, but it's just not our choice of style, so we can't help you much. From very short hair or a shaved head, I'm sure that that style would take 6 months at most--but you need to get a stylist to cut it like that for you.
