Enjoyable Op-Ed piece in today's New York Times on the Summer of Loooooove....
Don't go back to (San Francisco)
Rob, Yes a great article describing the juxtaposition of two cities and the great bands and music they produced 40 years ago. Although no mention of the great band Spirit fronted by Randy California who in '66 jammed with a then somewhat unknown guitarist going by the Name of Jimmy James that would have to go to London to find "Experience" and Fame. Henrdix wanted California, the name he gave Randy Wolfe, to go to England with him but Wolfe's mother would not allow it as he was only 15 at the time. Spirit would produce great music but passed up another grand opportunity by turning down Woodstock to appear on a local LA TV program instead. peace, jonalbear
how about that. we all make decisions unable to know anything about the future and sometimes they are mistakes. interesting to read about examples with hindsight. the author of the NYT article also didn't mention Eve of Destruction (P.F. Sloan) and Barry McGuire's recording of it.
