Moderator(s),
I requested to be removed from the Directory of Users some time ago because I no longer felt comfortable having my pictures floating around the Internet. I recently tried to contact another user (FireInTheSky) about a recent post he made, and was unable to do so. I am guessing that this is because I am no longer listed in the directory. Is it possible that I may be re-entered into the user directory without having a picture?
Thanks,
Michael
Hi Michael,
I am on the moderation team, and as far as I know, in order to be listed in the directory of users, one does require a photo. In my expereience with the hyperboard, I am not aware of any regular members who do not have a photo. (You could contact Oren to see if there are any exceptions, but I am almost 100% postive that he will tell you the same thing, a photo is needed to be listed.)
Hope this helps,
David
I might add that if Micheal didn't respond to that e mail back in January regarding updating the directory then he was indeed removed. However I don't see why he couldn't contact a memeber and get his message through. Also he can still post to the board and not be a member anyway.Hope this helps.Mark
Yes

Quite a few users where removed in the directory back in January either because they were to busy to answer the e-mail in time or for other reasons that i wont go into ....I myself told quite a few if i saw them online at the same time as myself, It seems quite a few have returned to the directory since that time.

Hi Michael,
Here is an excerpt from the FAQ about e-mailing through the board:
8. The system won't let me write others because I am not a regular user. Why is this, and what determines who is a regular user?
This is done to keep spammers and other miscreants from writing our users. If you post frequently using your e-mail address in your posts, or if you join the Directory of Users, you will be recognized as a regular user.
Also, in order to be listed in the directory, you must have a picture that shows most of your face.
From the "users/faq.html" page:
Your photo must show your face well enough for you to be recognized and it should show your hair.
About pictures floating about the net, I couldn't care less. If I'm at a large mall or whatever, thousands of people see me, security cameras capture my image every time I go in a large store, I'm sure the FBI has a file on me too (heheheHOHOmwhaha), so one more picture on the web won't make much difference.
Thanks, and hope to see you rejoin, Bragi
The reason I'm concerned about it is because universities (the places where I will attend *and* work, later in life) have been known to Google prospective students'/professors' names. I'd like as little evidence (positive OR negative) floating around as possible.
Sorry for missing the spot in the FAQ. :-P
If Michael Odle is your real name, why not join under an alias; there is no requirement to use your real name. Do you really think my name is Bragi?
Just make a post like, "Heretofore, I, Michael Odle, will be hereby known on the MLHH as "Vercengetorix (or whatever)".
Yes, to be in the users' directory you have to have a photo, but if you post regularly with your e-mail address the system will also recognize you and let you contact others and enter the chat room. We had to restrict those features to known people because of abuse.
