Hi everyone,
It's been a great time for updates in the past week or so. We had a very artistic update from nuttidave, an update with some beautiful Colorado scenery from James, and one can never be more thrilled than we we saw ChrisG return a couple of days back. We have aslo seen many other updates, from new folks as well as from many of our regulars, it really is awesome to see so many new faces on the hyperboard. I laso wanted to thank EVERYONE for the enormous support you have all shown me since I joined the hyperboard 9 months ago.
I was not planning to post an update until July or August, as my hair grows slowly and there was not much point. However, both Simon and nuttidave asked if I was planning one, so I only felt right that I should post a few pictures.
I'm afraid there's nothing special about these pictures, they are rather mundane, actually. I have already posted most of these in the past few weeks over at the Long Hair Community, so I thought I would share them here.
I thought Iwould show a couple of pictures of my workplace. My co-worker snapped this one of me standing by one of our pieces of equipment in the lab. What is cool is that this co-worker is the same one who was so down on my hair before. Last week, while we were having lunch, she complimented me on both my hair and beard, it just felt SO cool!
Here's another piece of high tech equipment in our lab, this one is worth arond $400,000.
Here's a routine hair picture, a couple of weeks ago.
And one of the back
The obligatory ponytail picture, a week or so ago, bit ratty.
Inspired by Jason's recent video, and the encouragement of MANY LHC members(I have made an enormous number of friends over there since joining in January!), I tried my first ever braid on Saturday. After about two hours of frustration, I came up with this sad effort. Please don't laugh too hard, as it is rather pathetic compared to Jason's braids, but since it is my first one, I hope you can excuse the effort. I hope to get better at braiding in the next few weeks.
Finally, the last picture. An enormous stress for over the past week has been my inabilty to sell my condo in the country after my move back to the city last fall. I finally sold it, and I celebrated by having my niece sbnap a picture of me by the "sold" sign on Tuesday. My hair is a real mess here, but this is the first outdoor picture I have ever posted here, too bad it was a dull day! I also look very short here, this is only because of the perspective. Last night, on closing day, my family treated me to a lobster dinner to celebrate the end of a stressful year.
That's all for now, please excuse the large number of photos! Ant comments, as always, are wramly appreciated.
Your hair looks great!!! Hope i will still have as great hair as you when I'm at your age.=)
How long are you growing your beard?
A.
Hi Aleksander,
Thank you so much for your kind words, I am quite happy with my hair right now, and would like to grow it at least to my belt, terminal length permitting, of course! I'm sure your hair will be awesome when you reach my age, you have fabulous hair now, and are blessed with great hair growing genes.
As for my beard, I am maintaining it at around two months growth, and trimming it every few days, due to its fast growth rate. I am very pleased with it's current thickness.
All the best,
David
Hey David
Just checked your update and im very impressed with both the hair and the beard, your whole look is awesome!!
You have inspired me to post an update as soon as i can,you might remember i made the big mistake of shaving my hair off back in April, well im on the road to growing it back so ill post soon.
Once again great update David!!
Hi Y2J,
Thank you for stopping in to comment on my update, your kind words are deeply appreciated, and I am flattered to serve as an inspiration. I am certainly looking forward to your upcoming update!
All the best,
David
Congratulations on selling your condo David, I am sure that is a great relief to be done with that headache. I cannot stand the kinds of problems and complexities of real estate transactions and the fewer of them the better.
Your lab does look very high tech and mysterious, as any self respecting science lab should :) I am glad your coworkers have come around to seeing your new look more favorably, that always makes it more pleasant to be around them.
Your hair and beard are making remarkable progress and looking better than ever. Keep on doing what you're doing!
And thanks for all of your warm words since I came back online :)
Hi Chris,
Thank you for your compliments and kind words about my hair and beard. Yes, the job is super cool, being able to use all this awesome equipment, it is actually like detective work, where we are looking for unknown compounds in fish, to protect the health of Canadians. Think of it as CSI or something like that.
I agree about real estate, that is NEVER fun! The market outside Halifax is very slow right now, so it took well over a year to sell, it is such a sense of relief to have that behind me.
And finally, it was genuinely heartwarming to see you return to the hyperboard the other day. You have been sorely missed by everyone for your contributions to our community, and I credit your support for me in my early days on the hyperboard for much of the enthusiasm and love for this community that I have now. I sincerely hope that your current regime can get you on the road to recovery once and for all, all of us are pulling for you.
Take care,
David
Hi David, your hair looks great man!
Nice seeing how long it has grown. I am amazed at how fine a man looks with his hair natural and long. I have had longhair for over 30 years and still love it!
Cool braid. Not bad for starters, I have still not mastered doing it myself. :-(
By the way, great lab equipment too. I dig working with high tech gear so the photos showing the equipment are cool too. ;-)
Here is a photo of me in my workspace doing my tech stuff.
Wishing you great success with your hair,
John S.
Hi John,
Thank you for your kind compliments, I agree with you wholeheartedly that long hair is the best way. After those 4 1/2 years of short hair, I realize now that I will never go back to short hair again, and plan to grow to terminal, whatever that is for me.
That is some COOL equipment you have there as well, it's great to see other guys who enjoy working with the high tech stuff. Thanks for your link, I'll check it out later on, it will be interesting to see what all your equipment is used for.
Thanks again, and all the best,
David
Hello back David,
Glad to hear you say that. One's identity may be largely based on appearance but it's truly what's in your heart and soul that makes the person. There are too many that have given up who they really are to become clones for those who would want us to be just like the population at large. Losing our individual identity in the process. Often "employment" is the reason, sometimes it's "fitting in", remaining true to one's self awareness is more important then other forced perceptions.
Ya, I love my equipment a lot and am involved in many areas of research including UFO phenomenon. Some of my equipment is used for synthesizing electronic sound effects and "spacey" music. I am very interested in "zero point energy" research as well.
Warm hugs and my best to you,
John S.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Your beard looks brilliant, much bigger than it was on your avatar pic :P
Your hair length is about the same as my step-dads. He has only grown his for less than three years though, his hair grows so fast!
Are you at terminal now or not?
DaPs.
Hi DaPs,
Thank you for your compliments about my beard, it may be a time for an avatar update! My avatar was taken with about one month of beard growth, I am currently maintaining it at two months, with trims, and it has filled in to reach its current thickness.
My hair is still growing, rather slowly, but still growing. I went through a period for nearly 8 months of close to nil growth due to damage earlier on, that is possibly why my hair seems shorter than other guys who have been growing longer, it appears to be growing better lately, although it still seems to grow faster at some times than others. I still plan to grow to terminal, and hope that I can at least achieve waist length.
All the best,
David
Awesome photos, David! Your hair and beard are looking superb, and I must say that those are some very impressive pieces of equipment in the lab there. Anyways, keep it growing and best of luck on the move back to the city. =)
-James
Hi James,
As always, it is GREAT to hear from you, your journey to long hair is progressing very well, and I salute you for serving as an inspiration to so many of the new guys growing their hair for the first time, your website is awesome! I just saw your "straighty" pictures, I was blown away when I saw your hair's true length, VERY impressive for just over a year!
Thank you for your kind words about my hair and beard, I am quite happy with things now, and it is such a sense of relief to sell my condo, now it makes it seem as though retirement (and my road trip) are much closer. Also, the lab equipment is WAY cool, the job is challenging and rewarding.
Take care
david
Well dad never to old to be a longhair and interesting pictures.
Cheers,
John.B
Hi John,
As always, it's great to hear from you,and I wholeheartedly agree, NEVER too old to be a longhair! Hoepefully, I can get overseas after I retire, and we can toast each other with a pint or two.
Cheers,
David
Hi David,
Your beard is looking awesome indeed!
You may want to let it grow a tiny bit longer on the right side. At the moment it looks longer on your left side. This may be because your chin is actually longer on that side, or it may be an illusion because you have more white hair on that side. I had a similar situation for awhile, and letting the darker side grow a tad longer made my face seem more symmetrical. One nice thing about having a beard is that you can use it to your advantage to shape your face a bit if you feel that is needed.
As for me, in time the problem took care of itself. Eventually my beard got gray all over, ending the problem! [grin]
Bill
Hi Bill,
Thank you for your kind words about my beard, I am very pleased with it now, and the current length suits me just perfectly. I am delighted with how thick it is right now, and might try your suggestion of letting the right side grow a bit longer, I know my long neck is hidden much better with the beard.
I also wanted to extend an EXTRA SPECIAL thank you for encouraging me, back in my January update, to grow a beard in the first place! I am thrilled beyond words as to how it has progressed, and would probably still be beardless today if not for your encouragement.
Take care,
David
Wow, what a wonderful beard ! I like it, for sure. It gives you... something :)
Your hair seems very well managed, very shiny. The ponytail reveals a lack of thickness but when you wear your hair down, it has a pretty good volume.
For the braid, don't worry, my first braid wasn't better. It comes with practice (Unfortunately, I don't have the time to practice :()
Thanks for sharing
Bye,
Vivien
Hi Vivien,
Thanks for your warm compliments, I really appreciate your kind words. I have Bill to thank for encouraging me to grow a beard in the first place, and I am thrilled with how it has progressed so far.
My ponytail may appear a little thinner because of some shorter hair in the crown area, my hair in abck is not as thick as I would like, hopefully the propecia I am on will help that over the course of time.
The braid WAS challenging, I can attest to that! Hopefully, I can find some time to practice, there never seems to be enough hours in the day, lol!
All the best,
David
Hi David,
I want to congratulate you again on your first braid. As some at LHC mentioned, the rope braid is considered by many to be harder than the regular three strand braid. They both have their tricky points. The advantage of the rope braid is that you only need two strands but he disadvantage is that you have to twist them and hold the twists as you'e continuing with the braid.
The advantage of the three strand braid is that there are no twists but you of course have the three strands to keep track of. Keep at it! In no time you'll be a pro. It's getting that first few down that's the hardest. Already your brain and fingers are learning the motions and will maintain a memory of the.
I love that outdoor photo of you. Your hair really looks thick and very long in it.
Hi Jason,
As always, it is wonderful to hear from you, and thank you for your compliments about my first ever braid. I am sure that things can only get better the more I practice, and hope to try other types soon.
I also wanted to say a extra special thank you, Jason, first of all, for all the support and encouragement you have shown me all along, and second, for encouraging me to join the LHC back in January. It is a tremendous community, I have been very warmly received, and I feel I have made some fabulous friends there!
I am very pleased with my hair's appearance in that windblown photo. Of the four pictures I posted in my LHC photojournal outside my condo, I like that one the best, another one, from a different angle, is a close second. A few members of the LHC have suggested I use one or the other as a potential new LHC avatar. One of the members has already sent a PM to me with cropped versions of both, and I plan to change my avatar shortly, my tendency is to favour a cropped version of this windblown picture.
All the best,
David
You've taken some great photos David! Fun to see a few pics of your work place as well, that looks like really advanced stuff you're working with, you must've studied alot:)
And your hair + beard is coming along nicely, quite a difference from a few months ago. I hope to have as thick hair as you when i'm your age, lol:)
Simon
Hi Simon,
Thank you for your kind words about my hair and beard, I am certainly very pleased with how well things are going lately, I think my hair's condition has improved quite a bit since last fall. I sure your hair will be nice and thick as you grow older, it's FAR too early to worry about that now. I actually think my hair is a bit thicker than a few months ago, possibly because it is curlier as well.
I agree, the job is VERY cool, and working with these neat machines is very rewarding. I admit to going through quite a few years of university, but those days are ancient history to an old geezer like me!
All the best in your new journey, your naturarl colour is looking great, and now that your hair is undamaged, you should be able to avoid any more trims.
All the best,
David
Hey David.
As always, your hair and beard look awesome! The beard has gotten much thicker since your last update, and it suits you REALLY well. It was also cool to see your workplace and it's good that your coworker has gotten used to your long hair and beard!
Keep it growing!
-Mihnea
Hi Mihnea,
Thanks for your kind words, you have been with me all the way, and I really appreciate all the support you have given me. I am really enjoying the beard, although I don't plan to grow it any longer, I am overjoyed with it's thickness. I have to say that your hair is really rockin' these days, and I anm sure looking forward to your next update!
Yes, I was thrilled when my co-worker complimented me when we were having lunch together in a local coffee shop last week. I think the WORLD of her, actually, she has already said she will miss me terribly when I retire from my job next year. Too bad that she is 19 years younger than me, but ah, well, that's another story!
All the best,
David
Hello David !
I'm so happy you posted an update, you hait are so healthy land very shinny :)
your beard is also growing nicely , you should update your personal pict again lol
The last pict is really nice, i think with the beard you look really different and so cool...
that's a great update ;)
Cya
N/T
Hi Angel,
As always, your words are deeply appreciated, thank you for your kindness! I am really happy with the beard, and may consider an avatar change shortly. My favourite picture is the outdoor shot, but my face may take up too little of that picture for it to be useable, I guess I will have to ask Oren. (I also have a cropped version of that photo as well)
Thanks again, and all the best,
David
Heya! Dude! Your hair is so awesome =D The beard only makes it better! It matches your hair perfectly and both look healthy! I only hope my hair will look as good as yours as it grows :P
Btw that's some hardcore equipment! Doubt I'd even know how to turn it on.. Heh!
Hi Some Dood,
Thank you for your warm compliments, I sincerely appreciate your kind words. Yes, the equipment is WAY cool, and yes, even turning it on does take a little knowledge, but with enough training in science, it is not really that difficult.
You need have no fear at all that your hair will look awesome long. I saw your update earlier on, and was VERY impressed. I am looking forward to your long hair journey.
All the best,
David
Hey David...
Great update my friend. Your hair looks fabulous as always and the beard is coming in nicely. I'm jealous. I couldn't grow a beard if my life depended on it.. lol.
Anyway, its good to see your post and as always, I'm looking forward to your future progress...
Be Blessed...
Tristan
Hi Tristan,
Thank you, as always, for your kindness and encouragement. Don't worry about not being able to grow much beard for now, remember that it is easier to grow beards with a few more years on the clock. (something I have more of than I need right now, lol!)
Your own hair is coming along wonderfully, and with all the support this awesome community can offer, I am sure you will be sporting some terrific long locks in no time.
My blessings to you as well,
David
Greetings Dave! What a great update. You sure are providing me with much needed inspiration. And your beard looks wonderful too. Keep up the tremendous work!
Max L.
Hi Max,
Thank you for your compliments about my hair and beard, I am genuinely flattered that I can serve as an inspiration to you. I am looking forward to an update from you as well, hopefully you are planning one soon.
All the best,
David
Inspiration you are indeed David. Am going back to the east coast for three weeks to visit relatives but when I return I will have an update or two...am around month 14.5 now I think.
Cheets, Max L
Hi Max,
Hi David, your hair looks great. This photo shows it the best. Happy growing.
Absalom
Hi Scott,
Thank you for your kind words and encouragement, and as you already know, your hair is a tremendous inspiration to me. I suspect that my terminal length will be far shorter than yours, but I have no intention of cutting, and plan to grow as long as possible, I pray that it is at least waist length.
All the best,
David
Hi, David, your update is right on time! There's no need to wait, I actually see a change in length and fullness. I think Propecia is really working out for you, your hair has never looked better (for what I've seen I mean) Great lab pics and the braid is excellent for first attempt.
The beard is coming great too and it grows pretty fast! You look really cheery in the outdoor photo! Looking forward to your next month update! =}
Hi grrrrr,
Thank you for your kind words, as always. I am very pleased as to how everything is progressing so far, I like to think that the hair is indeed thickening, my recent dermatologist's visit indicated that the effects of propecia can take up to a year to take hold, it is encouraging if the effects are kicking in earlier.
I also wanted to thank you for all your contributions to our community lately, you have become a real asset to the hyperbaard!
Thanks again, and take care,
David
Congratulations on your great hair progress -- and the condo sale. I know from experience what a relief that is!
Hi Stan,
It is a real pleasure to see you here, thank you so much for your kind words. I agree that the whole business of real estate is very stressful indeed, it is such a relief to have that over, it's been going on for over a year now.
This is also the perfect opportunity to say a few special words to you, Stan, I hope you get a chance to read them. When you posted your introduction a month or so ago, I was undergoing a lot of stress related to this sale, and admit that I was hypersensitive to things going around me. Because of that, I did not give you the warm welcome you so rightfully deserved, I apologize for that now. Rest assured that you are 100% welcome in our community, and I am looking forward to seeing you post more often, and obtaining an avatar as well.
Take care,
David
The hair and beard really look fantastic! That outdoor photo with the wind blowing your hair is awesome! Even though it was a gray day, the lighting was perfect. You look so happy! And I'm happy for you!
Lon
Hi Lon,
Thank you for your wonderful comments, I do admit that I am happy with my hair and beard these days, now to get the hair to grow a little faster, lol! I do admit to liking that windblown picture, and if possible, may consider that for my new avatar. I am also very happy indeed, this is such a huge load off my back to sell my condo!
Take care,
David
Wow David. Is your hair ever taking off! It looks much longer than I realized and the colour is fabulous. I just can't get over it.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful "non-update" (LOL) with all of us. Inspiration A++++++++, no question about that.
Justin~
Hi Justin,
Thank you SO much for your wonderful compliments, you have always been a source of inspiration to me. I do admit, this latest set of pictures was a spur of the moment thing, and was not really intended as an update (nuttidave and Simon asked me if I was planning an update soon, to give me a little "push"!). I just threw together a bunch of pictures from my photobucket account and decided to post them, a "mish mash", so to speak. I admit that I love the colour , I feel fortunate to have just enough gray to serve as natural highlights in my hair.
I also have to add that I deeply appreciate your friendship, 2009 simply cannot come soon enough, when we can meet in person for the first time.
Take care,
David
David, You never seize to amaze me. Your hair and beard both look amazing!!. It is evident that you take great care of your hair. I am glad all is well with your co-worker and that you finally got rid of the condo :-). Well, Dad, I'd like to extend a heartfelt thank you to you for your incomparable contribution to this community and for sharing such an inspirational update with us.
Best wishes to you,
Chris
Hi Chris,
As always, it is a genuine pleasure to read your compliments, you have supported me from the very beginning and I cannot even begin to thank you enough. Aso, I wanted to thank you for your kind words about my commitment to the MLHH, they are sincerely appreciated, I love this community
Now is the perfect time to thank you as well, for all you have done here, you are a genuine asset to the MLHH in all your support of everyone here, words cannot begin to say how much everyone appreciates that.
Take care,
David
Thank you, David. I really enjoy reading your posts. They are genuine and sincere. I too love this community and enjoy contributing as much as I can. If it wasn't for this lovely community I wouldn't have made it this far. Once again, Thank you, David, and thank you all in the MLHH.
Cool pics David it's nice your co worker gave you a compliment. I see the sale went through on the condo congrats
Kevin
Hi Kevin,
Thank you for your kind words and the congratulations on my condo sale. I admit that I was very pleased with the compliment from my co-worker, I think the world of her, and it meant a lot to hear them.
All the best,
David
Hi Dave, I am really pleased to see you decided to post an update, because looking at those pics its well overdue. First off the hair is looking very, very nice indeed and the beard is great!! What a transformation, this look suits you very well.
Lovely to see some images from your work, its always good to get a little insight into peoples lives, and it certainly looks very interesting in the labs.
Congratualtions David on selling your condo, getting through a stressfull year, and acheiving such success with your mane and beard. Bravo!!
Kind Regards, Dave
Hi Dave,
Thank you for your kindness, coming from one of our resident artists, your wonderful compliments are deeply appreciated. I hadn't really decided to post an update due to my hair's slow growth, but your request the other day as well as Simon's today made me decide to share some pictures I took in the past month or so that I have already posted over at the LHC. It was just a few odds and ends, after all.
I am so glad the previous year is behind me, my final pick up of the cheque at my lawyer's office this afternoon was the final page in this rather long story. Now, onwards to retirement!
I also wanted to thank you personally for your tremendous contributions and the role you have played in making this community the way it is.
Take care, my friend,
Dave (one of the many others, lol!)
Really great update, David! That beard is looking awesome...it definitely suits you, me thinks. But, I'm a bearded fellow myself so I'm a little biased...heh! Your hair seems to be fuller in those pictures. I don't know...looks great though. We should all be so lucky to have hair like yours when we're your age (not that I'm calling you old, Mr. retired...I mean...) You should still be able to put more length on in the next couple years so when you go on your trip in 2009 there'll be more to blow around on the road...nice!
Great pictures of your work, too. I recall you being a chemist, no? I'm an amateur mycologist (see pic) and am around more crude equipment but still another longhaired bearded dude in a lab from time to time. I've been studying the Shiitake and Reishi for their benefits on the human body. Mycology is an interesting field and one that just draws me in. Science and Math were my strongest subjects in school so, there you go. Paul Stamets and Dr. Andrew Weil are big time mycophiles and are both hero's of mine. A great book to read is Stamets "Mycelium Running" on how the higher fungi can save the world.
Anyway...wonderful update, David, and congrats on selling your condo. That's got to be a great feeling! I look forward to your next update!
Take care,
~G
Hi gman,
Thank you for your wonderful compliments, as always, deeply appreciated! I do admit that I am very pleased with my beard, yours has always been an inpsiration, so full and thick.
It is just SO cool to see another scientist longhair! Your hair is looking mighty fine in these pictures, and with your astounding growth rate, will leave me in the dust in no time, I am sure waist length is less than two years away for you. I guess the two of us would make a couple of great candidates for that website showcasing longhaired scientists, I think it is called something like the "Long flowing Locks for Scientists", or something like that, cannot think of the exact name right now.
Thanks again, and looking forward to meeting you on my tour in 2009!
Take care,
David
Hi! Your hair is really looking great. You are turning into a real "Daddy Cool." Congratulations on selling your condo. I know how difficult it is to go thru closings, inspections, agents etc.
I have vowed to never move again as I really love my current home.
Del
Hi Del,
Thank you for your wonderful words, and I do admit that I LOVE the term, "Daddy Cool"!!!
I totally agree about the whole real estae thing, this was my second house sale in less tah 3 years and I never want that stress again, too much for the Dad of the hyperboard, after all!
Thanks again, and take care,
David
Hi David,
Great Update! Thanks for sharing those pictures. You're an inspiration to everyone on this board. You've always got kind comments and encouragement for other posters. Keep the updates coming and keep it growing!
anotherDavid
Hi anotherDavid,
Thank you for your wonderful compliments, they are deeply appreciated, and I am genuinely flattered to be considered an inspiration! I admit that I love this community, this site is truly a special place like no other on the internet.
Take care,
David
I wish I was a chemist or something... I always loved to mess with chemical stuff but when I was deported it killed any chance at getting a scientific job... it sucks because that is what I am suited for and now I seem to be stuck at jobs that involves selling something which is what I am really bad at. I guess there is always ametuer chemistry but its harder because its hard to obtain chemicals when you are an individual, since they dont want people making bombs or something...
Hi Tai Fu,
I agree that the job is very cool, it is very rewarding to be able to work with all this high tech equipment. Don't worry, I am sure you will find a job in the chemical field, I know you are hoping to move to Canada down the road when you get your Visa. Just try to have a postive attitude on things, and I am sure great opportunities will come your way.
All the best,
David
.
Hi there David just want to weigh in on your update also.As the pics show there is no lack of hair growth such as baldness that I can see.At your current age you have to be very satisfied with you hair volume despite the fact you claim it grows slowly.Obviously you have no baldness in your family I would think as your hair looks fantastic. It will be interesting say in another year to see how much longer your hair will get.Very nice update!
Interesting workplace you have there too.In my line of work being an HVAC Service Technician I get the opportunity to visit many businesses of all types and have seen an agriculture type lab where they test all sorts of food people consume.Looks like very interesting work.
Anyway thanks for all your hard work on this board and also congratulations on the real estate sale!Mark
Hi Mark,
It's great to hear from you, and many thanks for all your wonderful words about my hair.
Yes, I am quite happy with my hair's thickness for my age, although nowhere nearly as thick as it was ten years ago or so. I do have some mild hair loss in the crown and slight recesssion at the temples, for which I am taking propecia, so I can at least maintain what I have for as long as I can. Unfortunately, there is no lack of baldness in my family. My uncle had significant balding early on, and my dad had significant hair loss once he reached his 50's. However, my grandfather had a full head of hair when he died at 85. Both my older brothers have/had good hair. My oldest, when he passed away last year at the age of 58, still had all his hair, and my next brother, at 57 now, also has a full head of hair. hopefully, all 3 of us got my grandfather's genes! I never met my mom's father, as he died before I was born. It will be interesting to see how much longer I can grow my hair, I have no intention of cutting it again.
I agree that the job is very rewarding, it is cool that you had the opportunity to see a lob like mine, if you ever get to Nova Scotia, I could even give you a tour of my lab!
Also, thank you for your kind words about my contributions to the hyperboard, I really think this is a comunity like no other right now.
Take care, my best to you,
David
Hi David,
I don't know why I never made the connection before, but you are a "shoo-in" for the Long Flowing Hair Club for Scientists.
I enclosed the link. Look under "How to Join."
Your hair looks great, and I don't think the pictures are so mundane at all. Selling Real Estate is very stressful, so I'm glad to hear that closing went smoothly. I imagined that braiding was harder than it looked, and frankly, I imagine I will probably never try it myself!
Well, I guess lobster is the thing in your neck of the woods like on PEI and Maine. Glad to hear you got treated to a good dinner. Thanks for making a good update and see you later.
Bragi

Hi Bragi,
Thank you for all your great commpliments, I really appreciate it!
I am genuinely flattered that you would think I would make a good candidate for the longhaired scientists group, I have seen that website and think it is WAY cool! A number of women over at the Longhair Community have also urged me to join as well. However, I would never dream of nominating myself, no way! That seems to be a be a little vain to me, to put one's own name in. I notice that Gman is also a scientist, in his reply to my update below, he posted some cool pictures of himself on the job.
I have to agree that I am thrilled beyond words to have the sale go throgh, it has been very stressful indeed, thanks for the congratulations. The lobster dinner was awesome.
It was actually the encouragement of several members of the Longhair Community that encouraged me to try braiding, I did not want to let them down. I only felt it right, for history's sake, to post my first effort. Hopefully, my skills will improve with more practice.
Thanks again!
All the best,
David
First rope braid, selling your home, a great beard...things to celebrate all around!
Great update, David. Good luck with the move!
Mouse
Hi Mouse,
As always, it's GREAT to hear from you! Thank you for all your kind words and congratulations!
I also wanted to give a special thank you for all you have done for our community, it is a real pleasure to have you with us on the MLHH. I also believe that you are LONG overdue for an update, I am looking forward to seeing more pictures of your lovely waves.
All the best,
David
Thanks, David. You guys have been so welcoming. As for an update, I'm planning my next one for the one-year mark (around middle of July).
Mouse
David,
These are wonderful pictures. I suggest you sub the first one for your current avitar.
Cledonian
Hi Caledonian,
Thank you for your wonderful compliments about my pictures, your words are sincerely appreciated. I was thinking of an avatar change, it did not occur to me to use the picture of myself by the lab instrument, but you have a point about that picture being used as a new avatar. I also like the picture of me with the windblown hair, it will be a VERY hard choice!
All the best,
David
Great update David. I'm glad you got rid of some stress by selling your house - that can make a world of difference in one's day-to-day routine. I dig the beard. And thank you for your always positive and upbeat posts.
Hi Allen,
Thank you for your warm compliments, I really appreciate your kind words. I also agree with you that the sale of my house was a huge load lifted off my back, it has been going on for so long now. I do like to maintain a positive attitude in my posts, this is a wonderful community of people like no other, and we can all use the support in our quest to grow our hair long.
Best of luck in your own hair growing journey, and take care,
David
Looking great David!
Congrats on the great hair and on selling the condo.
- Oren
Hi Oren,
Thank you for the kind words about my hair, and your words of congratulations on selling my condo, a huge load off my back, that's for sure. I also think you are LONG overdue for an update, and I hope you are planning one soon!
Keep everything growing,
David
Dear Old Dad

Axel
Hi Axel,
Thanks for all your comments! Yes, I admit that I have never tried the chat room, but perhaps we can set up a time sometime to have a chat, I am not even sure how it works. ChrisG once mentioned to me that he uses the chat room as well in an email earlier on. The condo in the picture is sold (my unit was the right hand unit, and was one of four in the building in the picture), and I have moved into a considerably smaller one. However, if you ever get overseas to Canada, rest assured that you will be warmly welcomed, and it would be delightful to have a "wee cuppa tea", and I could show you around our beautiful province as well.
Take care,
David (Dad!)
Dude! Wow. What a transformation. I admit I'd been skeptical of the facial hair at first, but now that it's grown out so full, I can't be skeptical anymore. All I can do is congratulate you on a grow-out job well-done. Excellently done, rather. You've come such a long way, and the future will likely only be better.
Keep up the superb work, man.
Peace
Hi Fallen_Angels,
Thanks for your wonderful compliments, dude! When I started growing my beard back in January, I had no idea how it would turn out, I didn't even know what colour it would be! Now that I am maintaining it at its current length, and it has filled in so thickly, I am thrilled beyond words as to how it has developed, I really have Bill to thank for motivating me to grow one.
Thanks again, and keep up the great growth of your awesome curls,
Peace,
David
OK there, youngster !
You hair is looking great, I really like the ponytail and the windblown look next to the For Sale sign.
Moving FROM the country TO the city for retirement?? Gasp !
I am thinking about moving away from my "Urban Blight", here, now that "they" put up a street sign on the dirt road ! Horrors ! HA!
Thanks for Sharing
Walter White Tail
Hi Walter,
AS always, it's great to hear from you! Thank you for your kind words. I have to admit that I like that windblown picture, it might even be a potential new avatar after being cropped a bit.
Regarding the move, since Halifax is a small city, we don't really have the serious urban sprawl here. Out in the country, my previous condo was too big for me, and I had to drive everywhere, my new place is smaller and easier to maintain. In the city, I can walk everywhere, and since I walk everywhere, I tend to stay in better shape physically.
All the best to you, Walter, and thanks again!
Take care,
David
I noticed all the lab equipment in your pictures and -- being interested in science myself -- was wondering what your lab did exactly and what's your job? It looks pretty nice!
Hi CEEtheDinoman,
Thanks for your comments and questions, it's certainly cool to see other members who have an interest in science.
As for my lab, the main focus of my lab is to help ensure the safety of the Canadian food supply. The organization I work for, called the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, has a number of such labs across the country, each with a slightly different focus. The Chemistry section in my lab (there is also a Microbiology section) is involved in testing for the presence of harmful chemicals in fish and foods. The machines you see here are used to measure how much of these harmful chemicals there are, to ensure they meet safety guidelines. The work is certainly cool.
All the best,
David
