Hey guys, I was out getting some dinner tonight when I recieved the worst comment I've ever recieved from someone so far. I was at Popeyes Chicken and I decided to walk in since I didnt know what was on the menu. So on my way in there were two guys standing outside talking. They were probly around 40-50 years old, with short hairstyles. I walked up to them and they stopped talking, and when I was right about to go in the door one of them said and I quote: "look at this shit." There was nobody else around outside so there was really nobody else or nothing else he could have been talking about. I glanced back at them for a second and then went inside and ordered. I guess its a good thing that they werent standing outside when I came back out, because I was thinking of giving them a piece of my mind and who knows what would have happened next. I was pretty shocked that this happened, I havent recieved anything worse than "are you trying to join a sorority?" (which made me laugh) until now. I live in Texas, so its maybe not a total surprise to me. Either way, I just wanted to share this with you guys and sorry for the length.
Yeah, it sucks that there's still sh*theads in the world. I guess there always will be. I think most, if not all, of us here have gotten comments like that. I know it's a knee-jerk reaction to respond but I feel that just ignoring these idiots is the best way to respond. Don't give them the benefit of being acknowledged.

I agree with ignoring them 100%. They probably wanted you to react at them so they could start crap with you. Who knows, they may do that to anyone regardless of hair length just to get a reaction.
Or maybe one of them crapped there pants and wanted to show the other their sh**. :-)
Hey dude, ignore that stuff. I mean if they were 40-50 then they're pretty old school like most adults today and don't like anything different from the norm..but I agree that that was a little harsh and uncalled for; this world is full of assholes. *Pardon my french.

Damn that's so not cool.. but you're not alone man. I've gotten my share of bad comments from MY OWN grandpa.. I agree with the old people being old school and all.. my grandpa has never had short hair before so he always tries to discourage my growing my hair out. I just smile and nod my head like I'm actually paying attention to him though. Some of my friends have made fun of my hair before too but I never let it get to me! I'd rather have long beautiful hair that I could take care of and get more compliments on rather than bad comments than have the ever so original short hair cuts. :P Well.. I don't necessarily agree with the guy saying one of them crapped their pants, but it's possible! But it's also possible that they were probably talking about something else =D
Woops I meant my grandpa had never had LONG hair before.. heh, my bad. :)
The crapping of ones pants was meant as a joke. :-P
The world is full of morons
Men like this do not have short hair styles. They simply have short hair, short brains, and short self esteem. But never give away a piece of your mind; you need all you have to live in Texas.

It is very rare that I get negative comments, but I get lots of positive ones.
Today at a vista point where I was hiking, a guy about age 50 asked if he could take my picture, and he was all smiles when I said "Yes". Two other tourists snuck a photo of me from a more distant location without asking.
Yesterday when with Absalom two people in one block were all grins and throwing us peace signs.
A few days ago I left a restroom while my partner was still in one of the stalls. Two other men, not realizing he was there, were conversing and one of them said after my departure, "Now THERE was a real hippie!"
And about twice a month I get compliments on my T-shirts.
I'm sixty years old, so we all know I am not as pretty as you are. [grin] What is probably different is that I am comfortable with my look, and it must show. That attracts people who have positive things to say and dissuades those with negative thoughts.
It takes time to gain that comfort, so just hang in there, man.
Bill
Well, you know, Bill, tourists can't vacation in San Francisco and come back without a photo of a hippie. Their friends would never beleive they had really been there!
When I got to the Texas part, it all made sense. From what I know that's one of the least tolerant states in the US and A.
Still, it's a shame that it happened and I hope it didn't upset you too much. When something like that happens I usually don'get insulted. To me, they're insulting themselves by showing how narrow-minded and ignorant they are, and if anything I laugh at them.
Sacrament, Sacrament, Sacrament!
I'm re-posting my latest "look"; I, too, happen to be fifty! Young-lookin', huh? All I can say is IS that classism, rudeness, mental illness, and daemonic (lower astral entity) possession can take many different forms. Cheap, hatful, violent remarks such as theirs are one form.
Makes me remember once, walikng my McNab bitch, K'Ehler (the McNab is a dog breed created by the Scotsman, Alexander McNab, in the nineteenth century, by merging the Basque shepherd w/t Scottish Border collie; great dogs, man!), and a well-known local schizophrenic, sixty-something, blurted out as I passed by, "Boy or girl?"
Mistakingly thinking that he was inquiring about the gender of my pet McNab, I return answered, "Oh, my dog? She's a girl, a female!", beamed I, proudly.
To which he shot back, emphasisedly, " I didn't MEAN the dog!"
So, there ya have it. Cruel, distasteful, and not the perfect picture of mental hygiene. I think you're lookin' good, Sacrament, I think you're lookin' good!
Yours in longhaired camaraderie,
Quenyan
I'll be fifty later this year myself. I don't think the age of the idiots is as significant as the age of the victim, although it's truly pathetic that anyone should still behave that way at our age. It's a sad fact that those kind of people, whatever their age, give out most of their abuse to younger guys.
As you get older you find very few people who are prepared to piss you off in such a direct way. I think it's because they get more reaction out of younger guys and less worry of real consequences for overstepping the line. A young guy will get wound up or upset, whereas an older guy will often ignore them completely, which they hate, and if he does do anything it is liable to get way more serious.
There again, there was that guy while you were walking your dog. I guess there's always one exception that proves the rule.
i live in Mississippi dude i get banter like boys aint supposed to have long hair i hate these religious rednecks bro your not alone on that lol i just say jesus had long hair bitch! lol but dont worry man your not alone on this! long hair is worth it..
I frequently vacation in "red states", and I get along just fine. I spent a week in rural Virginia last week. If I had one thing to say about my experience there, it was, "I met, and chatted with, a lot of longhairs!" And several "wannabe longhairs" - guys with longish hair who wanted to get to know me better because I had already made the journey they yearned to make.
Bill
Damn it, Sacrament! They really get on your nerve, don't they? Yeah, well I guess for Texas it's not so unusual but still I'm so sick of this discrimination. I guess you didn't even pay attention to what they say and that's the way it should be but its' still frustrating.
Just be glad they wheren't in line with you. I had that happen while waiting in line at Taco Bell. I was having a crap day to begin with so I sorta snaped and lost control for a brief second. I came close to tearing the dudes head off in front of his friend who he was undoubtedly trying to impress (and ironicly hide behind). It kinda scared me afterwards as I'm the type who doesn't want to hurt anyone. The guy at the register looked like he was going to pee himself. lol
I think you will find individuals who will be jerks in every state. I also live in Texas, and other than immediate family, I've not received any negative comments at all (much to my surprise).
Sad thing is, one or two illiterate individuals can shine a bad light on everyone. Having traveled extensively I could make negative generalized comments about most areas of the US, but it serves no purpose other than to stereotype an area based on the worst case scenario.
I just would have told this particular guy to be careful and not drop his mirror, and move on.

Another good reason not to go to eat Popeye's-- Overfried, overgreasy, too hot, and overcrowded with the common element. As a long haired gentleman, you've chosen to stand out somewhat from the common crowd. Look for places to eat where expression of individuality is more appreciated-- and has better quality food.
You did the best thing you could have done by ignoring their trashy comment. To have given them a piece of your mind was probably what they were looking for because they would have known that they had gotten to you. But instead you left them no place to go. Bravo!
You do best to ignore peasantry of this sort.
It is tempting to abuse them but that like that and go away and tell their friends that long hairs are both rude and ignorant. Something they of course 'know' because they decided that first.
I know it bites but just blow it off they're obviously pathetic old morons who will die a painful horrible death some day, what comes around goes around. Then they'll rot in Hell. :)
