Hey. So, what're your favorite artists/bands of all time, or just your current favorites? I know this topic has been done before, but I don't think it's ever been done for all types of music; it's usually metal.
So, basically, just list all your favorite bands or artists of any musical genre at all. If you have good photos of yourself with musicians, feel free to post those as well.
I'll start:
For all kinds of metal, my current favorites are: Dragonforce, The Kovenant, Deathstars, Static-X, Kittie, Lacuna Coil, Evanescence, Disturbed, Otep (if they count), Dope, and Dream Theater.
Rock of all kinds: The Birthday Massacre, Alien Ant Farm, Blink 182, Avril Lavigne (lol, I know! Her second album only), Zebrahead, Bella Morte, Skye Sweetnam, RED, Linkin Park, P.O.D, Michelle Branch, Jane's Addiction, System of a Down, Papa Roach, Corinne Bailey Rae, Tribal Ink, Sum 41.
Industrial/Elektro/Ambient, ah, whatever: Combichrist, Dulce Liquido, God Module, Celldweller, Suicide Commando, Shur-I-Kan, Julien-K.
Hip-hop: Fort Minor, Lupe Fiasco, Lil Jon (as stupid as his "lyrics" are, it's good energy music for if you're tired), The Pharcyde, Delinquent Habits, Del the Funky Homosapien.
Others: Graeme Norgate (he did the music for Timesplitters, if you're an obsessed gamer like me), The Beatles (should be in rock, probably, but I'm lazy), various anime soundtracks (Bleach, Elfen Lied, and Hellsing, mainly).
Your lists don't have to be so long, LOL. And, contrary to popular belief, I didn't just write off all the band names I could remember. I really like a lot of bands at one time...lol.
Peace.
I'd just like to add a couple of bands that have a lot of long hairs which I currently listen to.
-Nightwish
-Apocalyptica
Just check this out!

Espeeeecially Helloween/Gamma Ray... Kai rules!
I recently started listening to Helloween. They're awesome.
I probably show my age when I say I can't keep track of names or songs (come to think about it that was never my stong suit), but I will say that I enjoy alternative rock. I'll record some good internet college stations and listen while I work. Also Itunes' alternative feed - RauteMusik, SomaFm, idobi radio for example. I'll listen to amost anything, just not from the elevator or soda pop can!
Bruce

Haha, you were right about your list being huge. I know a couple of the bands you listed, but I'm definitely gonna check out a lot of the others. I love discovering new metal bands....
There would be too many individual artists to mention, and I listen to music constantly. At the moment I'm listening to Hawaiian music..."Hapa-Haole Hula Classics" by Various Artists.
I also love oldies, progressive rock, folk, jazz, classical, vocals, easy listening, world music, and vintage pop music (1895-1950).
Stormy
I listen to metal a lot. There's also some new age, folk (celtic) and oldies I like to listen to.
At the moment I'm enjoying the "viking" bands such as Ensiferum, Moonsorrow, Thronar, KromleK etcetera. Lots of longhairs in all of those!
So, anyone here have a last.fm profile? (For the heavyweight music listeners!)
http://www.last.fm/user/Aleks123/
I havent updated in a long time because i usually dont listen to music with windows media player.I use dbPowerAmp.

anotherDavid
Nice favs man, that's some seriously good stuff! =)
Nightwish, Brian Eno, and Opeth rock. I'd never heard of Agalloch before, so I checked out their myspace. Now I'm addicted. :P
Peace
LOL! That's great! Their album Ashes Against the Grain is awesome. Their previous albums are pretty good too, but are more like progressive rock than metal in my opinion.

by the way I looooove your curls!
Damn it, I forgot Aerosmith! I also like Hawthorne Heights, My Chemical Romance, 30 Seconds to Mars, HIM, Placebo, and Simple Plan. Simple Plan's songs are so addictive.
Thanks! :D
Where to start? lol
Well.. I like Andre Segovia and John Williams alot (classical guitarists).
For jazz/fusion/whatever, John McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth, Jaco Pastorius/Weather Report...
For metal, Novembre (favorite band of all time for about 5 years straight now, they're out of Italy), Dream Theater, Spiral Architect, Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Cephalic Carnage, Death, Dimmu Borgir, Testament, Dio, Borknagar, ehh WAY too many to list...

I guess I listen to everything but punk and rap/hip hop.
But now that I think of it, I do like punk/ska-ish bands like Sublime, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Reel Big Fish, Soapbox Paradox.... lol.
dude, your list is so close to mine, your just missing a few thrash bands (metallica etc.) and a few of the 80's shrapnel shredders (jason becker etc) and of course the best guitarist ever jazz/fusion master shawn lane (although holdsworth is awesome too lool) \m/
anyway, by looking at your list i would assume your a guitarist as well right?
Yeah? That's sweet, man. Where's your list?
And yes I like Lane too.
Yeah I'm kind of a jack-of-all-trades but master-of-none. Hah. I consider myself a luthier more than anything, tho.
But, I'm the lead guitarist in a recently-joined symphonic black metal band, also a vocalist (not of the black metal type either, heh), bassist, and wannabe floutist and drummer...
lamb of god!!!!!!!
I like a wide range of music from all types of metal, including death, black, melodic, technical to some hardcore, grindcore, metalcore, deathcore..and all those wonderful other genres...good music all in all.
I like to download new music ALOT to expose myself to different sounds because most bands these days sound pretty generic and it sucks...but the few bands I listen to day in and out would have to be
*in no particular order:
- Amon Amarth
- Vital Remains
- Vehemence
- Behemoth
- Carcass
- Death
- Cryptopsy
Korn, Marilyn Manson, Nirvana, Dire Straits, The 69 Eyes, No Vacancy, and ZZ Top
I listen all kinds of music but a whole lot of old music, like 50's rockabilly and stuff like that, and also pretty much heavy metal too:)
But here are some of my favourite bands/artists:
Country: Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Alan Jackson, Carlene Carter, Brad Paisley
Rockabilly/Rock'n'Roll: Elvis Presley, Matcbox, Batmobile, Status Quo, Firebirds, Smokie
Hardrock/Heavy Metal: Metallica, ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Shotgun Messiah, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, Bon Jovi, Black Sabbath, Bullet For My Valentine
And much more!:D
Simon
Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, and Yes. O.k., and there's Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe...
Yes is great! I started listening to them when "Owner of a Lonely Heart" became a hit, and eventually I had all of their records. Some of the records had that great Roger Dean artwork on the cover. CD's are great, but I miss those huge (by today's standard) album covers! Relayer had the best cover in my opinion, although Yessongs was impressive as well. I also love listening to Jon Anderson's album Olias of Sunhillow. Great music and a very cool album cover!
anotherDavid

Rock: Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Queen, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, The Who, Cream, Bruce Springsteen, Uriah Heep, Jethro Tull, Allman Brothers Band, Bob Seger, Randy Newman, Prince, Rush, Rolling Stones, Billy Joel, Pink Floyd, Blue Öyster Cult, Pearl Jam, Primus, Rage Against the Machine, Faith No More, etc. etc. etc.

The sheer diversity of this list is awesome.
Thanks, I always have to have variety in music otherwise I get bored. A lot of people seem to get into one type of music such as metal and don't want to listen to anything else and become really narrow minded. I think it sucks when people limit themselves like that.
I tend to lean towards Celtic/folk/new age stuff: Coyote Run, Heather Alexander, Kan'Nal, Enya, Heather Jinmaku. Lots more than I can't remember right off hand. I also just listen to the radio a bunch, and that's usually a mix of rock and pop from the past couple decades.
Mouse
OK, Now for the rock bands, King Crimson, Ash Ra Tempel, Can Porcupine Tree, Patti Smith Band, The Allman Brothers Band, Pink Fairies, Tempest, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Steamhammer, Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Rory Gallagher (Taste), Them, Animals, Yardbirds to name but a few!
peace, jonalbear
Metal (old and new): Evanescence, Skillet, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Godsmack (some of their songs are good)
Rock: AC/DC (some of them), Guns n Roses, Pink Floyd, The Queen, Staind and others...
Hip Pop: none of them... cant stand the current crap they put out, although some of the early 90's stuff is okay...
Techno/Trance/House/Dance/Goa/Whatever: Paul Van Dyk, Robert Miles.. most of them are pretty good as long as its melodic and not overly bassy.
Pop: Blah!!!!! although I used to listen to Celine Dion...
Country: Tim McGraw, and a few others I find okay like Shaniah Twain, but for the most part I don't go out of my way to listen country. It sure is better than hip pop though (I watched CMT when MTV decided to play nothing but whatever they played on BET)
Great singer to :-)
I am definitely a fan of rock of the 70s through the 90s. While I enjoy most of what I hear on the radio these days I can't say that I am a follower of nor do I know that much about most of the more popular bands in recent years. Although I do hope to catch up on this deficiency given the time to do so.
A not inclusive list but to give you all the feeling of my outdated taste :) here are but some of the performers in my rock collection :
Fromt the 70s and 80s:
Styx, REO Speedwagon, Journey, Rush, Kansas, Night Ranger , Asia, Glass Tiger, White Lion, Van Halen, Guns N Roses, Scorpions, Mettalica
Pink floyd, David Bowie, Moody Blues, Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, John Mellencamp, Elton John, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen
Some from the 90s:
Toad the wet sprocket, Gin Blossoms, Candlebox, Cracker, Counting Crows, Matchbox 20, Wanderlust, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Dada, Collective Soul, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Soul Asylum, Crowded House, Neil Finn
I am also a big fan of movie soundtracks particularly the works of John Williams, James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, Howard Shore and Hans Zimmer
I also love all kinds of traditional Celtic music of the type played by the Chieftains, a favorite of mine
My most ecletic preference is for ancient dance music from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, pretty much anything vigorous up until the early 1600s
Yes Chris, Soundtrack music! Elmer Bernstein, John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Elliot Goldenthall, Bernard Herrmann. James Horner, Vangelis, Phillip Glass, James Newton Howard, Hans Zimmer, Mark Isham, and Tangerine Dream to once again name but a few. peace, jonalbear
Hmmmmmmmm
Just to name few over the last few years bands & Singers
Dragon Force, Theater of Tragedy, Amduscia, Dream Theater After Forever, Opeth ,Coheed & Cambria, Nightwish and Stratovarious these are of the top of my head.
Ive also love the 80s music bands n singers such as the following.
Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop , Queen, Dire Straits, Def Leppard, Van Halen, Whitesnake, Marillion ( Mainly Stuff when Fish was with the Band )U2 ( Only the early stuff) also love the follow to........ Talk Talk , O.M.D , Duran Duran and some Level 42 also A-ha to .........I like most things only things im not keen on are bands like Spice girl or singers & bands what dont produce there own material as long as its not to pop or country or rnb im cool with it !
Axel
Coheed and Cambria are cool. Claudio Sanchez's hair is incredible.
OK you asked for a variety of genres, so here's the classical ones. Alfred Schnittke, Toru Takemitsu, Steve Reich, Phillip Glass, Ravi Shankar. Frank Zappa, Gyorgi Ligeti, Erik Satie, Claude Debussy, Terry Riley, Charles Ives, John Cage and Igor Stravinski. peace, jonalbear
This is an amazing list, sir.
I'm not a big classical fan, but I like what little I've heard of Debussy and Stravinsky. I tend to favor modern, impressionist, and romantic composers.
...and John Zorn.
Type O Negative, Pantera, Black Sabbath, Opeth, Nightwish, Evanescence, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, Killswitch Engage, Smashing Pumpkins, System of a Down, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Tool, Rammstein, Enigma, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Underoath, Demon Hunter(they prove that Christian metal isn't always an oxymoron), Dragonforce, Kamelot, Rob Zombie, Hendrix, and many others
Yeah, just felt like shouting that out....
I like Type O Negative, Opeth, Nightwish, Evanescence, SOAD, Alice in Chains, some Pearl Jam, Rammstein, and Kamelot too. Nice list.
All kinds? You asked for it! My all-time favorites are (wait for it!).... Electric Light Orchestra, and Abba!!
I'm also a product of the 80's, so I love The Cars, Animotion, Duran Duran, The Talking Heads, The B-52's, David Bowie, U-2, Fine Young Cannibals, etc., as well as any artist on "The Wedding Singer" soundtrack. If it was on early M-TV, I loved it!
In contemporary music, I like Linkin Park, Evanesence, Nine Inch Nails, Alien Ant Farm, Offspring, Bare Naked Ladies, etc., and especially... Red Hot Chili Peppers!!!
Lon, ELO were fantastic, my favourites are Eldorado and Out of the Blue.
And ABBA wrote some of the most near perfect pop/folk music known to man, so there!!
EYEFEAR. (You can see one of the reasons, why they are one of the best bands.)
How about musically?
John.B
Hello John, of course the hair of Danny Cecati is only ONE of the reasons, why I like the band so much. I also like the Eyefear-music, it isn't bad at all. The members of a band don't have to have long hair - many short-haired members of other bands are wonderful musicians.
Uwe
I both like and hate these types of threads. The reader gets names of bands to experience he/she might not have heard of before, but more often than not these threads become like political arguments. Sometimes they can remain civil, which I'm hoping happens here.
A few of my favs are King's X, Megadeth, Rush, Yes(old), a lot of 80's metal like Dio, Dokken, etc.. , Iced Earth, Iron Maiden, and the list goes on. :-)

Splat
If anything, I was hoping for greater unity in the community; people post bands they like, and if you like the bands they posted, you say "awesome!" or something and find some common ground. Fortunately, that's what I see happening so far.
Peace
That's so funny....I've never even heard of any of those bands you listed. Must be a large generation gap.
Some of my favorites:
Genesis
John Mellencamp
Jimmy Buffett
Rolling Stones
U2
Beach Boys
Diana Krall
David Sanborn
Cool to see someone else lists him as a favorite. I especially like his early albums, but pretty much any of his albums from 1970-1981 are great with Coconut Telegraph being my last real favorite.
Another vote for Jimmy Buffett :)
now where did i put that salt shaker....
n/t
A few I like: canibal corpse, static x, lamb of god, slayer, slipknot, chimaira, pantera
