Long hair in Iran:
Many an Iranian male, meanwhile, has gone metrosexual; the younger ones often wear their hair long, which 20 years ago might have provoked a brutal barbering on the street by angry Islamists.
Long hair in Iran
It's nice to see the change. I think it will do the entire world much good.
Jeffrey.
My dad's from Iran and my nan and other relatives still live there, and they seem to love my hair long so much, when i first started growing my hair my nan was supportive of it and really wanted me to keep growing it.
Unfortunately to many of the countries that frown upon this (most of them), including all of those currently in the nuclear dispute with Iran, I don't see this as helping.
People also don't realise that Iran is one of the fastest developing countries in the world in terms of GDP. Especially in the Middle East. Let's just hope we don't get another Iraq :/
Everything n the article is true... but it doesn't change the fact that the Iranian people, and particularly the young, are bieng treated appalingly by a brutal, mediaeval regime that uses the death penalty extensively for drugs and sex-related "offenses".
Only a change of regime, hopefully brought about by the Iranians themselves, will change that. Don't imagine for a second that the conservative, Islamic extremists are softening up in the slightest.
Yep, a change in Regime can happen only by the Iranians themselves. Any attempt to influence such a change in any extensive way, or even worse through war, will lead to an even worse catastrophe than Iraq was.
Let's not forget, that the US have already changed the Iranian regime back in 1953 to a dictator. Now they reap what they sow. Atm, a lot of people in Iran aren't in full support of their regime, but as soon as the US start undertaking any serious actions against them, especially military actions, it will unite them, make them into martyrs in the face of the islamic world, and make the situation worse. Let's just hope someone more reasonable and with less vested interests from the military will become the next president, before Bush has the time to dig an even deeper hole.
Yes, it is interesting that the CIA was partly responsible for overthrowing the Iranian government in 1953, and then it was the Shah's government that indirectly brought on due to oppression, societal change, and secret police and such the revolution in 1979. Monkeying around in another country's business on the opposite side of the planet has never been a good idea. You'd think someone would have figured that out by now. If the US invades Iran, that'll pretty much finish us off.
It's true you can't judge a country by what you see on television.
I'm hopeful that the people of Iran continue to moderate. As for possible invasion well I think not. Just look at Afghanistan (Soviet invasion), Iraq (US) and current Afganistan work in progress. The old days are gone its not so simple anymore.
