Well, it's been a bit over 3 weeks since I started, here's the progress thus far!
Kevin;
The hair is coming along nicely! I think it looks much much better. It certainly looks healthier.. Keep up the great work..
Tristan
You are taking the dreadlocks out!!???
YAYY!! =)=)=) I'm so hapy you did that decision, your hair will look so much prettier! I'm sorry, I'm not a big fan of dreadlocks altough I respect them!
By the way, why did you decide to take them out? Are you gonna grow your hair more??
Geesh, it's looking awesome so far! I wish I could go there and help undoing the rest of them =D It must be a really hard job...
Congratulations on your decision, your hair will look so beautyfull!!!
Looking great dude! Although your dreads were cool looking, I definitely prefer your hair this way.
I have to agree with the others I definitely prefer long hair loose without the dreads, so I think it is coming along great. Did you just need a change in look? I was surprised at your choice. I didn't think you could undo dreads from what I had heard here from someone on the board.
Anyway definitely keep on going with it you're looking terrific.(a definitely biased compliment on my part :) )
I've also heard before that you can't undoe dreads, i thought that you'd have to cut off all your hair and start over, but i guess it is possible after all since i had one girl in my class who did it as well, she had hair down to her waist and it looked almost as great when she undid them.
Anyway, yout hair looks great!
Simon
wow...you took your dreads out!! Ah, man...I was really diggin' those locks. But, your hair looks very nice loose, too. My wife has curly hair and when she was following the Dead in the early 90's she had long curly hair but dreaded out the back bottom/side portion...looked cool. I've seen that style before on THE LOT back in the day and it was very common to see in Santa Cruz as well. Are you planning to take them all out or leave some in there? Whatever you decide you have absolutely fantastic hair, brother.
Be well,
~Gman
Hey there!
Well I really like dreadlocks when the hair of the person who wheres it is long, but ou have such beautiful curls thatit was a shame to have them hidden! Your hair is really beautiful, good luck with the rest of the process.
Take care
Whoa!
I'll admit I didn't expect your undreaded hair to look so great because it had been matted and tangled up for so long, but was I ever wrong. Your hair looks amazing and a lot longer, too. The funny thing is that the dreads at the back look really cool with the undreaded curls, as if it's all part of an elaborate hairstyle.
It's funny you're doing this. I remember that when I saw your dreads, I always thought I'd use your pics for inspiration if I ever decided to get dreads. Now that I see how cool your curls look, I feel like using them for inspiration for undreading my hair if I do it and get tired of them, lol.
Keep it detangling!
Peace
I would say the progress is coming along VERY well indeed, you are doing a great job removing the dreads with a minimum of damage, testimony to the fact that it CAN be done with proper attention to detail. Your natural hair is awesome, I am looking forwward to the growth of your fully undreaded hair.
Keep it growing,
David
holy cow. i happen to be a huge fan of dreads, and yours were no exception. but now that i see your natural hair color and the waves... fugedaboudit! your hair is gorgeous and makes me jealous. and really makes your beautiful blue eyes POP!

Amazing! I like the curly haired look better than the dreadlocked look.
Heeeeey, Kevs, man! HAPPY SUMMER SOLSTICE! Aaaand, you're lookin' great! I, too, had had dreads back in 1991, which I'd posted about here earlier, so, that thread's still here; undreaded 'em twice a couple months apart and then recommitted to keeping 'em until I felt strangely rehooked-up. You know, you know, the whole East Indian Sadhus and their higher consciousness approach to dreadlocks. So, although they were "only" shoulder length, I sheered them off altogether. But, hey, I'm happy to see that YOU were able to actually salvage what you have, and, what with the proper love and care, you can retain the length that you had achieved. Great work! A living testament to patience are you!
Best wishes always,
Quenyan (+;-)}
Happy solstice to you as well!
The process is very therapeutic. The repetitive, relatively simple movements act as a meditative tool, and allow me to navigate the accrued memories of the past 3 years and do some processing.
Nice progress :)
Your hair without dreads to me is definitely better. It looks much neater and shows your hair off (as such) much more ;)
I wonder how long dreads stay in for anyway?
There is no logical limit to how long dreads can get. All the hair that is naturally shed stays tangled with the growing hairs in the lock, and hence has no terminal length.
I know I'll go back to dreadlocks at some point, when I'll probably keep them longer, but for now I'm enjoying having the curly hair back!
You must have the patience of Job. It's looking really good. Hang in there.
That is absolutely amazing! Until you posted about it a while back, I'd never known you could UN-dread hair. It looks great (love the curl and shine), and may you have the patience to finish the other half.
Keep it gro...er...undreading?
Mouse
I liked both looks but this is cool. Like Mouse I had no idea you could Un Dread hair, wow!
Kevin
Wow ballguy those dreads have gone, but you know that is an awesome head of hair you have there, i am surprised really how well your hair looks after 'dreading'. Cool.
What tremendous patience, wow! I salute you!
I'm so curious to know the differences for you in how it feels, the process by which you are undreading etc etc.
But i'll probably bug you with that all later (unless you want to answer now *Nudge, Nudge*), for now...keep undreading baby!
I'm using a 2-pronged hair-stick (handmade by a fellow rennie). The process involves loosening up knots by hand (gently tugging the lock from 2 sides), then picking the tangles out with the hair-stick. I have also been using a fair amount of conditioner, and have been doing hot-oil treatments to help repair what damage is present (or at least smooth it over so it looks repaired ;)
only 5 more to go! I'll post photos later this week when it's all done.
You were one of the few white guys I've seen look good with dreads, but you also have really nice hair now that they're nearly gone. Hope you decide to keep it that long.
Wow! Quite a different progress report. It looks great Kevin and I'm glad you decided not to cut it off.
As someone else said "Keep on undreading"
Bruce
Are those natural curls? Or is your hair curly from being in the dreads?
Hair looks awesome!
They're natural. When I was a child I had straight hair (as did my sister). Once I hit puberty my hair all went curly like my mom's side of the family.
That has got to be tedious work ! Keep at it, looks great !
