I recently posted a S.O.S. for my hair situation and I want to thank everyone for their advice. But I feel like I need a little more.
After reading what everyone wrote I decided it probably was a buildup situation happening so I decided to go get a clarifier today. I bought the Pantene Clarifying Shampoo. I used it and it seems to have definitely de-gunkified things but some of the original problems persist.
My hair feels cleaner but still very waxy, especially at the ends, and it has been knotting and tangling really bad. It's never done this before. I can't run my hand through my hair anymore and I can't even stroke the surface without it feeling like someone's pulling it out from the roots. I tried de-tangling in the shower but it seemed hopeless. It felt like my hair was sticking to itself, like I was trying to pry my hairs from each other. This is really freakin' me out.
So I used the clarifier and I don't expect immediate results. But what should I expect after a few more uses? And what about this horrible tangling? Any ideas?
...my advice.
Clarifier's aren't meant to be used more than once a week (Although maybe there are exceptions to this general rule), but in your case I would use it maybe once every 4-5 days for the next 4 uses and then cut back from there.
Also relax and remember/know that curly hair will stick together much more than straight hair because the hairs get entangled due to each one having its 'own mind'. heck my hair is only wavy and it gets tangled a lot. The 'sticking' thing may just be because you still have product buildup in between these NORMAL tangles.
I have included a picture of myself from about 1 year ago which shows you how wavy my hair can be.
NB!: Don't forget to always detangle from the bottom up (NEVER from your scalp downwards).
and also don't forget that hair is at its weakest/most fragile point when wet.
NOW, what I just posted a few minutes to your thread below (this concerns Otaku and the wonderful women of the hyperboard too, but essentially it all links up)...
This thread: Curly fries ol buddy. don't you realise that a lot of guys are uninformed when it comes to growing their hair long and that without the specific information provided by us may not have the best long hair in the 'end' i.e. the same long hair that you want to see ? ALSO, more importantly perhaps, don't you realise that without the support of our community here many shorthairs would never 'make it' as longhairs and might simply cut their hair in the awkward stages or even earlier? Hmm.
Otaku: The hyperboard has been nothing but supportive of you and yet you don't seem to realise or even appreciate this...and then you come out with this garbage. Delusional posters here can be helped (although you might require Professional Counseling...or a trip to the buzzboard where such posters are a dime a dozen!) but there is a limit. I would read over the guidelines for posting again if I was you. Just a warning from one of your friendly local neighborhood Mods.
Re: The Girls of the mlhh: I love you girls! I guarantee you that at least 90% of the male posters here would agree with me and your support and advice is most certainly appreciated.
ALSO, some females here such as Mouse are used to having to deal in the past or present with the pressures of being shorthaired women in a generally longhaired women's world, which is its own form of social pressure and discrimination....Growing one's hair long is FREEING for EVERYONE, regardless of sex.
Being yourself and what you want to be, is what this place is essentially all about and whether you're male or female (and we've even have had a transgender poster before who was supported too) OR SHORT OR LONGHAIRED RIGHT NOW (for YOU Curly Fries!) that basis will remain strong for a very long time to come and most likely as long as this board is in existence.
Re: ME/Gawking - If I can provide one man with inspiration to grow their hair, or to keep growing their hair or provide one woman with the same thing or some 'eye'candy' then hey! Dean's a happy man.
But the reason why I post pictures of myself at all here is because they are 'progress' pictures.
Of course it is always nice to get a closer look at the lives of our posters here, yet regardless this community is about openness and being who we are and putting our faces, or bodies and our HAIR out there on here, we are not only fulfilling the 'progress shot' rationale but also making this community a friendlier place as well as a MORE CONSTRUCTIVE place as people can comment more clearly and offer better advice if they can see what they are commenting on. So once again AWKWARD STAGERS ignore Curly Fries and post those pictures of yourself. We are here to help you fulfill the promise that the name of this Long Hair Hyperboard implies.
"Growing one's hair long is FREEING for EVERYONE, regardless of sex."
So very true!
Curley Fries, A good conditioner after clarifying works for me!
peace, jonalbear
A. It takes a day or two after you strip out the gunk for your hair to start returning to normal. If it's still gunky at the ends then you didn't apply it enough at the ends.
B. You _did_ condition your hair after using the clarifier didn't you? Don't tell me you just shampooed and that was it.
BTW, Suave makes an excellent clarifying shampoo that's only 99 cents / bottle U.S. If you got the Paula Begoun book you'd know that and save $$.
Glad there's some improvement! Use the clarifier a few more times and don't use it occasionally. Well dry hair and tangles, this sounds like a need for conditioner. Since you sounds like you had biuldup, be careful with the conditioner, don't overdo it! And don't worry hair really dries out in the summer. :)
