Hey. So, I recently got the urge to do something fun with my hair (although I can't do anything "fun" until I get back to college), and hair dye came to mind. Specifically, I thought it might be cool to dye a small streak of my hair some lurid color, like red, green, or blue.
Now, my mom would probably kill me if she saw that, lol, and I sure don't want this to last for a long time. So, would one of those temporary dyes work? Are there really dyes that completely wash out in a few weeks? If so, do they leave any lasting effects?
Also, I'm aware that hair dye is usually damaging, and my hair is already fragile from being so curly. Are there any dyes that do little to no damage out there, or should I just totally scrap the idea? It's not a huge deal to me, but I just wanted to see how it would look (outside of Photoshop).
Peace
Earlier this month I used Natural Instincts' 28 wash plum temporary coloring. So far I have noticed no deleterious effects. My hair is softer and feels more manageable.
Especially if you are only dyeing a streak I don't think it would hurt your hair at all. I know there are dyes out there for intense temporary colors.
Hey there!
Well that's an amazing idea, especially because Im counting down the 16 months that will take to me to go to university outside my home city to do some stuff my parents would kill me for, like pierce my nose and, guess what? dye a part of my hair of blue! I think it looks really nice to dye just a part of the hair, in the back with blue, purple or red, and as long as you wear it just for some time and not in all your hair I cat see reasons not to do it.
take care
Dear Mr. Fallen Angels,
You aren't gonna get the brilliant hues with temporary vegetable dyes that Manic Panic or its competitor Fudge brand "crazy colors" can render. I'm a first generation punk-rocker! Not that I've done it for decades, mind you, but, you've gotta strip your hair w/ a good, toxic, industrial-strength hair bleach (I would use Seventh Stage brand myself) to get the truly outrageous shades that the more daring set get.
Me? Why, I've been Lagoon Blue, Polyvinyl Green, Pillarbox Red, Flamingo Pink, Plum Violet, Platinum Blonde, Winter Wheat, Coffee Brown, Rust Red, and Titanium White, the last one that damaged my hair so "nicely", the next hairstyle was dreads, which I subsequently dyed a cinnamonny brown. Then I lopped 'em all off and restarted a new crop of (this time) longer, naturally-colored hair.
Dude, ever notice the similarity in the smell of photo-chemicals at a photo-developer's with the smell of hair dyes coming from a hair salon? Hmn? Have you? Well, my friend, that's because they're basically the same thing. Toners, developers, fixatives! You cannot use 'em w/o doing major damage to your hair and/or the environment.
However, the temporary eco-friendly dyes that Jason and his missus used recently are NOT the same types of caustic chems. And you're NOT gonna get the same LOUD results as us geriatric punk rockers got nor the newbie third generation Nu Metallers get.
Funnily enough, I live quite close to Sarah Lawrence College. Each new college semester us townies witness a constant stream of well-heeled rich kids do outlandish colors they most likely wouldn't be doing back home. The same exact "My mother would KILL me if she found out!" syndrome you mentioned. LOL! All right, over and out!
Yours for the all natural approach nowadays,
Quenyan (+:-)}
