Now that my hair has been getting longer I have heard nothing but negative comments. I have taking care of it from day one. I'm starting to wonder if cutting it is the right thing. everyone seems to be to honest with me. I'm not the type of person to give a shit what people think but, I'm getting this from friends and family. Why the fuck do people dislike long hair so much. This only fuels me to grow it longer. you look better with it shorter. I think about this, do I look better with it shorter? then the girl factor. will a girl date some guy with long hair? I'm sure there is, all of this seems to be getting to me. I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to cut my hair, I'm past one year! i'm so confused right now.
I say you've already gone a year, why not sit it out and see if YOU like it. That's what matters.

this is very true. Some resistance from the people around you isn't such a bad thing: testing how determined you really are.
Letting your hair grow long is no small undertaking - there's alot to get used to, things to work out, experimenting with what suits your own lifestyle and habits.
During this period it may appear to others that you're not really in control of yourself.
Although there are those who simply oppose long hair, many change from critising to complimenting when it's clear that you're comfortably into your stride with your own hair. It's a responsible thing, looking after a good head of hair!
Many girls have the advantage of years' experience, growing up with the stuff, but may still opt for a shorter style after all.
Perhaps in the end you will decide it's not for you, but at least you will have tried it for yourself, made up your own mind.
Stay true to yourself!
You said it yourself. Believe what you say.
If these other people thought you looked better in a miniskirt with heels, would you do that also? How about naked with a feather? Would you do that?
Would they grow their hair just because you told them it looked better that way?
Be true to yourself. Do what you want to do. Period.

you have to learn not to take it personally and let the comments deflect off you like water off a duck. Hard at first? Yes, but when they see that their comments are having no effect, they'll shut up. Also take some comments in good fun. Seriously.
Just laugh and don't go into a rage everytime someone tells you to get a haircut.
Whatever it may take, don't let them get to you. They're just not used to seeing people that try something different in a society where most people are clones of each other. Just do what makes you happy. If you live your life trying to make other people happy, you'll be miserable. So just ignore what you hear that is negative, let it go out the other year.
As for the girl thing, I've been growing my hair for almost 2 years and have a girlfriend that loves my hair, so no worries about that, there are girls that like and support long hair.
Don't cave in to their negative comments bro, just keep that hair growing and flowing.

you guys are the best! this is what I needed, your comments and words of wisdom are always appreciated. I's amazing how nice words and caring people on this site make a difference. i said it before, best site on the web.
People will always give you crap about long hair. Just shrug off the negative comments. Consider all that negativity inspiration. At least thats the way i look at it. Those people that criticize long hair deep down inside wish they had the valor grow out their hair. You are free and they are not. Just hang tight and keep it growing
Eric,
One thing I've learned is that people will accept you for who you are...even with long hair. If your friends really harrass you about it, then they're not very good friends. I grew mine to be different and also, more importantly, because I wanted it. That's my 2 cents...take it for what its worth, but do what you want to do for yourself.
Take care and keep it growin'!
Brett
My hair isnt amazingly long or anything now(7 months progress) but i get more looks from girls now than i ever did with short hair.
It's all about confidence(and being smart)
i noticed the same thing too
Some girls will not date guys with long hair period.
Some girls date both short hairs and long hairs.
And some girls just date longhaired guys. Some have a hair fetish.
My take on why people (especially conservatives and authority figures) hate long hair so much because in ancient times longhair was a status of power and a mark of freedom. Slaves would be shaved to show that they are slaves, and same with military. Those with authority problems always want to feel like they are in control and your long hair shows them otherwise.
Everything else like lice or cleanliness and looking neat is just an excuse.
Part of the loghair experience is dealing with negative comments. I had a job interview a few weeks ago and at the end they sheepishly brought up the company dress code. No hair past collar and no beard and would I consider cutting it. I thanked them for their time and left which left them stunned as I have 23 years experience in my field. I was disappointed but wont cut my hair for a job if they have issues with that they'll have other issues.
It never ends and isn't easy but you can deal with these people the trick is don't let them piss you off. Otherwise I agree with what's already been written by others on this thread.
Good luck and keep us posted
Kevin

Hi Eric
Well I think most of what can be said has been said but I too had a request like that when I interviewed for a job many years ago and my hair was not as long then either.Obviously that was something that was not going to happen and I turned down that offer based just on that request.I feel fortunate to have kept my hair long for over 20 yrs.without having to cave into anybody.I have a good paying job and enough experience to be able to pick and choose where I work.
Anyway Eric I urge you to stick it out as if you cut it you'll only be miserable thinking that you were forced into it and it might even hurt your friendships with others being they were the cause of this calamity.Best of luck to you and keep the HAIR! Mark
First, stay atrong. My response when people (even my wife) say "You need a haircut." is "No, thanks." Just that, and nothing more. Derails 'em and they don't know how to respond. One co-worker likes to say, "Where are my scissors?", and I reply, "Nowhere near my hair!" After all this time of the awkward phase, now I'm getting compliments! It's no longer just shaggy, big hair, but a respectable mane that pulls back into a really decent tail! Color me happy!
Second, as I have to tell passengers on the bus all the time, this is a public bus, so let's watch the language. I understand the frustration, but self control will make people take you seriously. Lose control, and they'll think your just a crazy guy, "Just look at that hair!"
I know how you feel i get that problem too but not from friends (some of them are long hairs). What the hell is wrong with having long hair I dont know. Just ignore those that have a problem with you having long hair
