I seem to remenmber that i once read an article about a survey they did in Britain. It was a group of people who didn't ude shampoo for 6 weeks, and about 80% of them got better hair in the end, better than when they used shampoo.
I just dont remember where i read that article, and now i cant find it..
I am thinking about trying that experiment myself for the next 6 weeks, in hte summer holiday.
Can someone helpme finding that article?
I have tried to stop using shampoo using only conditioner to wash and it just makes my hair greasy. This is good for people with curly hair though.

Thank you all for the answers and comments.
Kenneth: your link seems to be dead:(
Don't know about that specific article, but if you go to the link below, there is a lot of information about "conditioner only" (CO) and "water only" approaches to cleaning your hair.
I, personally, have started minimizing the amount of shampoo I use, and CO every 2-4 days, using shampoo every two weeks or so (lightly) as a clarifying step. I've been doing this for about a month, and so far so good (my pic's in a recent update post were taken after a CO washing).

I'm thinking of doing that during the summer aswell, albeit for a shorter period of time. Just water, no chemicals, like mother nature intended ;)
Like everything else, you've got to try it and see if you like the way your hair feels/looks using just conditioner. I use White Rain conditioner(because it's good AND cheap) every day, yet once a week use a clarifier. I use 100% aloe as a gel so the clarifier once a week gets the buildup out, if any. This works for me.

Hi Anders,
I just did a three week stretch with water only. Unfortunately, it seems my hair just kept accumulating oily buildup. I gave up and went back to shampoo and conditioner. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Almost 11 months I've been trying this out, and it's true, it does take some perseverance to find what's right for you, a few wrong turns, trial and error.
There is surprisingly little information on the web, just as much is counter argument from the haircare trade, but ..I really don't miss shampoo at all.
Water itself is something that should be rationed too, as it causes a congestion of oil. Honestly, I dampen my hair about once every three weeks, if I think the oils need a little help, but otherwise completely avoid water.
It sounds gross, but I can honestly say it isn't. I've been amazed at the human bodies ability to keep itself in condition.
The problem isn't with the hair itself, but the scalp. More than ever I've become aware of my diet, living conditions, and surroundings.
I'm still 'exploring', and three weeks ago shampoo'd my hair out of interest. Too little time tonight to write much more about this, but you might imagine it is something very close to my heart!
Good luck.
..basically I was pleased to find my hair in very good condition, and I really enjoyed the dry, light fuzz of a mane; but somehow I missed the heavy silkiness that I've grown to love this past year. The floating mass is nice, but when you examine the strands themselves they are perhaps lifeless compared to hair left in it's natural oil.
Shampoo'd hair seems so vulnerable, and I was returned to the cares of cautious, gentle brushing, until the oils found their way back to the tips, and all was back to normal.
But then I have a day like today, a bit run down after a night out, too much smoke in the air, and vodka; not enough sleep: I'm tempted to reach for the shampoo because the tale of last night hangs around me. However, I now know that tonight's good meal and a deep sleep will bring back the necessary balance.
I'm not speaking as an authority on the matter, but instead as a human guinea pig.
So far so good.
