Dear all,
I've been lurking around this website for, well, a few years and have finally accumulated enough courage to not only post, but also to seriously consider not to go to the hairdressers for a while.
I've been mentally preparing myself for this experiment since I was 13, which was 8 years ago.
My girlfriend isn't convinced yet. "Men don't have long hair in this country". We're living a (very) long distance relationship, but I'm sure we'll manage.
I'm not quite sure, if I'm into my fourth or fifth month of - well, I'm still hesitating to call it "growing my hair out" - not getting a significant haircut and my hair are the longest they've ever been so far in my life. Currently the longest hair I could find (right on the top of my head) is round about 9cm long.
Regards,
Philip
Hi, I'm glad you decided to make a post. Everybody has to start somewhere growing his hair. At one point or another, everybody here started from where you are! 21 is as good an age as any to do it too. I imagine when your hair gets all long and cool looking that your girlfriend will come around.
The trick now is to keep from getting it cut. I know you can make it.
HA! Where are you from? I bet there are men who do have long hair in your country.

Sounds like you're off to a good start, so don't worry about how long it *isn't* yet, --- the fact remains that your hair is growing, even as we speak!
I myself didn't grow my hair truly long until my late 30s, --- my first ponytail happening on my 40th birthday. I had grown my hair at least "longISH" before that; but I always caved in to pressure to cut during the awkward stage, so it never really made it even to my shoulders when I was young... Don't wait as long as I did, Philip, --- grow your mane NOW!! I wish I had done so when I was young, because my hair was very thick & full then, and had a great color; but I don't really care that my mane is not currently quite as "perfect" as it would have been in my 20s, --- but my point is... if at all possible, DON'T WAIT!!!

Hi Philip and welcome. You will get plenty of support here, make sure you visit us often!!
Welcome Philip, this is a great place to be.
My wife says the same thing still, but I like to believe she hasn't seen the light.
My long hair journey started exactly the same way. I just skipped a haircut or two and never scheduled another. Sure at first I was asked what I was doing, I just remain vague until it was obvious what I was doing. By that time there was no stopping me.
Good luck, enjoy the ride,
Bruce
