After doing all kinds of stuff with my hair, I've stumbled onto a new routine. I tried it every morning last week and so far every morning this week as well.
After I shower in the morning, I towel dry my hair, comb it straight back, and pull a little tail and hold it in place with a Scunci band. You all may already be familiar with this routine I've done for awhile, a suggestion that came courtesy of my mom. But now what I do, after tieing it back, I let it then air dry for about 2 hours or so (sometimes I play by ear, but usually 2 hours), then, without combing my hair down or taking the Scunci out, I then put on my hat and wear that for about 2-3 hours (again, sometimes played by ear). After a couple hours, I take my hat off, remove the Scunci, then use my wide-tooth comb to part the hair in the center, and it hangs nicely on either side of my head. The hair at the back, thanks to the Scunci, is dried enough so that it won't continue to puff up as it finishes off.
Then if I want, I'll put my hat back on and the hair on the side I can tuck behind my ears. When I had to tuck the side hairs under the edge of my hat, it would make my hair look buzzed short on the sides and look like I had a mullet. But now, just pushing it back behind my ears, you can tell the hair is long all around and just being pushed back, and the mullet seems to disappear.
The whole routine as been working very nicely. I'd post pics, but I haven't taken any yet. My nine-month update will be at the end of next week, so I should have some new pics 4th of July weekend.
Also, I have not shampooed for probably about a month now, and it's really been helping. I seem to have discovered I have more dandruff after shampooing than when I don't. My dandruff problem areas as typically in the center part and on my temples, so if I notice a build-up before showering, I'll apply just a tad to those areas while showering, and it does the trick for the most part.
Overall, I'm very happy and looking forward to reaching my 1-year mark in just a little over 3 months. :)
Wow congrats.. my hair is 8 months long... I hope you reach your 1 year mark and more
.
What an interesting routine. It's cool it works for you! The 1-st year mark is really exciting (at least it was for me) I hope you post pics soon :)
Thanks. I'm really excited to reach my 1-year mark.
Incase you didn't know, you're one of my hair inspirations on the board. I love your hair. :) How many months is that in your avatar?
Doesn't the hair smell?
Not that I can tell. And since I've down this steadily for about a month now, if someone else in the house had noticed it smelling I'm sure they would have spoken up. Haha!!
It smells if you don't shower. He does shower, he just doesn't use shampoo. You should google the Water only technique...
