A few mornings ago I thought I'd try a braid instead of the simple ponytail while shaving. It came out pretty well so I took a couple of pictures.
Comments welcome.
Bruce
It's not perfect but I had only experimented with little side braids before
Hey Scooper, great braid, maaan!
When my hair WAS down to my belt, three years ago, I often vacillated between a braid, a bee's butt bun, and jus' lettin'
my freak flag fly. Your pics serve as an inspiration to jus' keep it growin' and goin'! Thank you for posting!
Yours in longhaired camaraderie,
Quenyan
Thank you Quenyan! I mostly wear a ponytail and I haven't gone out with a braid yet, but I must say my favorite is letting "my freak flag fly"!!
Take care,
Bruce
Looks great, Bruce. It turned out pretty good. Not bad at all for a beginner
Thanks Chris, I cheated. I've been practicing on my bangs and sides!
Take care,
Bruce
Hi Bruce,
I am blown away by the fact that you are already doing braids of this quality so early in your long hair journey. I have great difficulty mastering the hand motions involved, and my pathetic attempt, after MANY hours, and many tries, was far inferior to what you have posted here. I was wondering how you mastered the hand motions so quickly, was this REALLY your first attempt? Congratulations are in order.
I am looking forward to seeing those pictures of your vacation that you promised earlier on.
All the best,
David
Hi David, thank you for your comments! This in fact was not my first attempt. I tried it a few times in my first hair-growing journey, late 90's, with fair success. This time I experimented with side braids and bang braids. I found that it's easier to practice there, rather than having your hands twisted behind your head. To be honest, this attempt was on a good day. My mind must have been in a relaxed state and like a good artist, my brain was able to convey to my hand what needed to be done. I have yet to duplicate that feat!
I hope you get to visit some of these wonderful places on your trip next year, and I'm looking forward to your visit here.
Take care,
Bruce
Hi Bruce,
VERY cool! I see you have posted a lot more pictures in your link, and I can see you had a fabulous holiday in a place with BREATHTAKING scenery. One of the pictures was interesting, there was some kind of metallic golf statue, I wonder what this was supposed to represent? (I play a little golf myself) I have bookmarked your photos. It would be cool to have some captions as well.
Take care,
David
Thats a chocolate statue at Jean Philippe Patisserie, located in the Bellagio Resort and Casino. The picture after that (I changed the order), i s the world's largest chocolate fountain. Over 2 tons of chocolate circulate and it took over 2 years to design and build.
Bruce
I can't get anywhere near that, I struggle to make a ponytail.
Thanks Dave! I suspect, when the time comes, your wavy hair in a braid would look excellent!
Keep on growin'
Bruce
That braid suits you quite well, Bruce! Good to hear you're reaching out beyond just your normal comfort zone and trying new styles and whatnot. Keep practicing and that braid will look better and better (not to mention more length will always help)! =)
-James
Thanks James! I try these things at home but I'm basically a shy person and I have yet to venture out in to the public with a braid. I was that way at first, with a ponytail, so I know, it'll happen.
Take care,
Bruce
BTW, your hair is comeing along nicely, congratulations
looks great Bruce, like you have been doing it for ages!
I haven't tried to do anything like a braid myself. Strange as it is to say, long hair is probably as noncomformist as I get. Even that took me forever to do, and when I first contemplated having long hair, I didn't think I would ever have a ponytail because it was too feminine in my eyes. Than after much more experience with longhair culture, both here and offline I saw that ponytails were indeed the norm of longhaired males around me. So I grew slowly used to that. Not sure I will ever make that next step to braids as they are very rare where I am. So much for being a pioneer, try as I might it is still hard to shake the hair/gender expectations of the society I grew up in.
Or maybe its just my taste, no way to be sure!
Kudos to all of you who do what you want to despite society :)
Thanks Chris, I've experimented in the past and this was a good day. My hands obeyed my brain! I haven't gone out in public with one and it may or may not happen. I'm basically a shy person, and I too was at first reluctant to go out in public with a tail. But you're right, most men have a tail in public and besides, everyone could see I had long hair! There are a few I've seen in my area with a braid so that may be enough to get me to do it(publicly)
Thanks again and take care,
Bruce
The braid looks great and you have excellent hair for it. I look forward to when mine will be long enough. Thanks for the inspiring photo.
Thanks for the kind comments Stan. I don't remember seeing a picture of you, so first of all welcome, second, be patient, all good things happen in time.
Bruce
Awesome job Bruce! It will only get easier from this point on as your fingers and brain memorize the motions. Pretty soon you won't even have to think about it that much.
I wear a braid 95% of the time when I go out. I find especially as my hair has gotten longer that there are far fewer tangles than with a ponytail. Plus, I just think it looks better.
Thank you Jason, you are the King! I do practice occasionally on the easier parts of my hair and someday, as you say, it will be easier. I agree that it looks good on guys that I see from time to time. I need to jump that hurdle still. Someday...
Take care,
Bruce
I think it looks great. I'd be proud of a braid like that! It seems like it takes a lot of practice to perfect, but you've come pretty close here.
Thanks Bragi, I'm hard pressed to duplicate it again.... but I'll keep practicing
Bruce
Looks great, Scooper!
I'm hoping mine will behave enough to make a braid when it gets longer.
Take care and keep it growin'!
Brett
PS: It looks like Jason has created a "braid craze" on this site LOL
Thanks Brett, another 6 months and you'll be doing the same thing!
Keep on growin'
Bruce
Hey Bruce, looks great! You made it sound so easy, you dog! As I've said before, every time I try to do a braid I feel as if I am on centerstage in a Saturday Night Live skit!
Way to go!
"And now, for our next entertainer..." Hey George, I feel that way myself sometimes!!
And to Bruce: lookin' good there, --- it's only a matter of time (and some additional length), and then before you know it, braiding actually becomes EASY (well... "sort-of" - lol)!
- Ken
Thanks Ken, at least with added length, I will be able to finish it off out where the old eyes can see it!
Take care,
Bruce
Thanks George, normally I'm thumbolino maximus, but I did this a few days ago just after returning from a great vacation. It'll be a while before I enter that same relaxed state of mind again.
Keep on growin'
Bruce
Looks cool, and very well done. I can't wait until I can do stuff like that.
Mouse
Thanks Mouse, it shouldn't be long now, maybe 6 months or so! And I'm looking forward to your next update!
Take care and of course, Keep on growin'
Bruce
Fabulous, Bruce! That's really good for first attempts. I hope someday I will be able to do braids like you guys! :D
Thanks Grrrrr! Someday will be soon I suspect.
Keep on growin'
Bruce
It seems Jasons braided look is catching and why not its a great way to stop your hair getting tangled great pictures Scooper !
