Hey Everyone.
Well, I must say it has been a VERY long time since I was here last. I used to be known as "rotaryphone's mulch" or something like that... I believe I was probably here 2 years ago +/- ?...
Anyways, Since then I had cut my hair in April 2006, and then had it short until I decided to grow it out from a buzz back in November of 2006... So now here I am, second time around, growing it out again. Is it me or does it seem to take *forever* the second time. Probably because I know what to expect already to some extent... At least this time I can take care of it from the get go.
So What's different within such a short period of time as 2 years ish? Well... I now wear glasses, I am hoping to go into nursing, really into photography a lot now, I'm also older than I used to be (:P), still got my amateur radio license (VA3OAT), and I've dealt with all kinds of things that happen in life...
Life is such a journey.
Yep. So I re-joined here to see what's up with the long hair community and perhaps become a part of it again, lol.:-)
I do remember a lot of things from the 1st time growing out, that's for sure...
Warmest regards to all,
Erik
Well- greetings! :-)
Hehe Thanks ;D
Hey Yair, man, welcome back!
Rotary phone mulch? That's funny.
Your LomoGraphics website is a testament to you being a very gifted photographer. Hair's workin' its way back to a glorious mane anew, also. Keep it growin' and goin', Erik! And I wish you well in your life's journey. Here's a pic of me in my THE SOIL BLEEDS BLACK (they're a Goth/Neo-Folk/Medievalist Rock group) Tee-shirt from a year ago. I'm sure you've seen me of late elsewhere. It doesn't take long 'til it's long again, believe me.
Yours in photographic skills and longhaired camaraderie,
Quenyan (+:-)}
Thanks for the welcome :-)
Yeah I don't remember my reason for choosing that particular alias, but it was what it was...
I love Lomography. The website is a great outlet for the photography stuff because u can get the cameras there and upload to a kind of mini-website thing... I actually ordered a new camera from there recently *dies* heh!
I'm glad I'm not in the journey of growing the hair out alone...
I've never heard of the band you mentioned above. I am into mostly dreamy/shoegaze type music if a genre must be assigned to such work. It is, to me, the most prettiest and perfect of music to my ears.
Wow
Quenyan
Different user name now ???? are you fed up with Quenyan do you use this one on the other board lol looks like you forgot which board your on lol ..........
Axel
That was quite funny, Ziggy.
Thanks Chris
Yes. Chris H. is right, "Very funny!" LOL! I only use my middle name here, like I have for ages elsewhere, but, Anadae Quenyan Effro is the full name I was re-christened with, after I absolved my(s)elf from my former Anglican Church (they're evil, evil, EVIL!) affiliations and upbringing.
Aaaaand, Axel, your new avatar IS quite rockin'! I want you to try out for the role of the AmerInd hero, Hiawatha, who unified many of the nation-tribes here in the Northeast so long ago. What say ye? Wanna give it a go? Previous acting gigs?
All I need now is to find an investor to sink money into the project. And Spielberg's too busy in New Haven, Connecticut making it look like 1940's New England while he shoots the fourth Indiana Jones movie there! Darn!
Anywho, Axel, great new pics once again. Hiawatha? I'm serious, bruh? There's even a scene wherein you'll have to wrestle with a giant lake monster!
A future filmmaker in the making,
Quenyan (+;-)}
Anadae
You goofed up now ill address you as Anadae if you have no objections to that
I quite like Anadae as a pose to Quenyan it looks much better that is my opinion on the matter, quite an interesting contrast of names you have there !
Axel ( Zig)
Hey, Axel (Zig), you're too cool!
So? Either way. I am (K)NOT a multiple personality. But, wait. Ya still haven't answered the "Hiawatha" try-outs question. Now, there's a toss-up (LOL!) between you and the guy in the REAL AmerInd shots that Sam posted.
You've got stiff competition. I'm actually seious. I AM going to make that "Hiawatha" movie one of these days. Thanks for your humor and everything.
So, are you Ziggy from Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers Ziggy, or are you Ziggy from Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars Ziggy?
Best musically-inclined and longhaired and indigenous peoples wishes, always, always, always,
The "A" to the "Q" to the "E" (+;-)}
Oh Anadae
You couldnt be any further from the truth where I obtained Ziggy from if ever your in chat one day i will let you know
Axel
Hey Erik, It sounds like everything is coming together for you, and I'm glad to see the hair returning. I was surprised when you cut it, but your reasons made a lot of sense.
All the best, Bragi
Yeah, That hair dye just would not come out, and my hair is far far too thick, so the only option was to cut it... But really, I have a lifetime ahead of me anyways, it's no big loss now, since I'm working towards my goals...
Welcome back! I wasn't here posting the last time you were here only an occasional lurker. Good luck on your second journey to longhair.
Kevin
Thanks, Kevin. I think I was pretty much the same way, occasionally posting once and a while...
Welcome back, Erik!
Not too long ago some of us made a list; there are several hams here besides you and me:
Clayton KD5OZI, Elektros N3KIP, Rob K5UJ, RickG KA7OIZ, Sugarcane AD6YU, Mr. Coffee KE5LRQ, Mike KD4ZMG, and Brian WO1VES.
We've talked about having a roundtable QSO and concluded it would be a lot easier to just dive into the MLHH chat room. [grin]
No one has ever set up a sked there, though.
73,
Bill, K9AT
Yair is the only one outside the US, though. Long-haired DX!
73 de Alun, N3KIP, aka G8VUK, aka elektros
Hah! Long haired DX... I haven't worked DX before, although I have recently got into listening to 2m SSB...
73,
VA3OAT
That's quite a lot of folks around here that have their ticket!
I'm thinking the chat room is a new feature among others since the last time I was here... Sounds like a good idea :-)
I used to do the whole IRLP thing, and I had a node here at home, but I kind of fell out of it and now I'm not really even tone capable with the equipment I currently have... That doesn't bother me though, I've been much more of a listener than a talker lately.
73,
VA3OAT
Oh heck, Erik. I am ashamed to say I didn't recognize you from the picture. Now I'm going to be like everybody's highly annoying older aunties and remark how much you've grown! Well, what else would you have done. It is great to see you here again, I've missed your artwork and view on things.
Elizabeth
Hi Elizabeth!
Heh don't be ashamed! I look like a completely different person every month it seems! ;D Plus with the new glasses it adds a whole new dimension... way back when I had my hair cut for the first time, I didn't recognize myself. I don't want that to happen for a loooooong time! Thank you for the welcoming words. :-)
Take care,
Erik
Hi Erik,
Yes, I remember you, --- or, at least your infamous handle, "rotaryphone'smulch" (which I absolutely just LOVED)!!!
Anyway, WELCOME BACK!!!!!
- Ken in San Francisco
Hi Ken,
Hehe yeah I'm still trying to remember my rationale for choosing that particular handle, but I can't All I can imagine in my mind is a flower bed with telephone parts scattered about... oh well eh?
Thanks for the welcome, btw. :-)
What's it like in San Francisco? One of my friends traveled there recently and thought it was awesome. I bet the weather is outstanding, less snow than Ontario, I'm sure.
Good to have you back Yair, rotaryphone mulch - now that is cool, I think i should call my band that (if I had one)!! LOL
Thanks Dave,
If I had a band I would call it "Siamese Connection" after this sign I get to see every week at the Long Term Care Facility I volunteer at. I should take a pic of that sign one day lol... :-)
Welcome back, although I don't think I knew you before.
Lower down, you mentioned a kind of music called shoegaze. I just loved the name of it, so I went around listening to samples. Wow. It's like ambient and/or ethereal, but purely dreamy. I like it a lot. My favorite new discovery is Love Spirals Downwards; their stuff is just blissful. I'm not sure if they count, but I also like the Cocteau Twins; I saw them mentioned under "dream pop."
Good luck the second time around!
Peace
My favourite bands at the moment are probably Boards of Canada, Slowdive and Caribou. But of course there's countless others. Slowdive is pretty much the essence of shoegaze. Another band well known for shoegaze type sound would definitely be My Bloody Valentine. I'll have to check out those two bands you mentioned! I am always in need of hearing new sounds. :-)
Heh, so am I. I already knew about My Bloody Valentine; I generally like their stuff. I like how mellow their songs can be (well, the few I've heard) as a contrast to their name.
*resolves to check out Slowdive*
Peace, man.
Hey, you restarted about the same time as I started (taking into account you were froma buzz in Nov, and I was from short in Dec). Be sure to post lots of updates, it'll be neat to see how you progress!
Good Morrow,
-Christian Epp
I think it was the middle of November that I had it cut down to like 1/2 inch... so it has come a long way I suppose. It's interesting to note that it grows much longer in some places than others. I'm just going to let it do it's thing though... I will post some updates some time in the future... gotta figure out some camera/computer stuff and take the initiative one of these days...
Peace.
