Little Jimmy Osmond with The Mike Curb Congregation
Long Haired Lover From Liverpool (UK #1 US #38)
MGM 14376 - 1972 - 160 kbps 2:16
"Little" Jimmy Osmond is the youngest sibling of The Osmonds, born April 16, 1963. He occasionally appeared with them, but also had a formidable solo career, especially in the UK where he had a number of bestselling hits. He earned six gold records, and topped the UK Singles Chart with this song, "Long Haired Lover From Liverpool" in late 1972 (it only reached #38 in the USA). Jimmy was 9 years old when this was released, and to date he is the youngest person ever to top the UK charts.
Well, ahem...what can one say about this song, besides "What were they thinking"? I first heard it back then, in 1972 and even then, I thought lyrics like "I'll be your long-haired lover from Liverpool, and I'll do anything you say.." sung by a 9-year old boy were kind of - uhh, what word should I use - questionable?.
Oh, and did I mention that this song was preceded in the top spot by Chuck Berry's "My Ding-A-Ling"?

"Oh, Stormy. Oh, Stormy. Bring back that sun today!"
Name that tune! Hey, thank you for posting this dittie. Whoa. "Little" Jimmy Osmond from the world-renowned Osmond Brothers from Mormon Central, Salt Lake City, Utah singing "Longhaired Lover from Liverpool", obviously a reference to the Beatles themselves. Amazing, Stormy, these longhaired-related tunes that you dust off from the great, big, vinyl treasure chest.
Strangely enough, here's a link to me and the Osmonds. Mrs. Ballard, an expatriot of Germany who found solace in the States from the evil Third Reich, was their original manager AND crooner Bobby Darrin's as well. At twelve years old, I sang her the entire "Hair" repertoire at an audition. She was ready to sign this natural-born performer right then and there. I passed on the opportunity.
Who's to say that I couldn't have been yet another 'tween / teen pop star? Oh, well. Keep posting, Stormy, I'm really enjoying
this series that you started.
Yours in longhaired pop cultural camaraderie,
Quenyan (+:-)}
Glad you're still enjoying the series, Quenyan. This story of yours reminds me of one of my own. Some years ago, during a period of unemployment, I auditioned as a pianist for a family pop group. They were also Mormon, and obviously based on the Osmonds. They and their manager liked my playing. They didn't like my hair! They said they'd hire me to be their pianist if I cut my hair. So I remained unemployed.

Okay, Stormy, Hair Song #3 is hilarious! And now I can't get it out of my head!!
Oops! Typo. I meant #4. Thanks again for posting these tunes!
