I've lurked, randomly posted and criticised other people's grammar for a few years on the MLHH so I thought it was about time to become a proper member! Form sent in today. I've decided to post as 'Laurence' rather than 'Big L' in future.
Here's a pic from yesterday. I compared it to one from 2 years ago and my hair is now slightly shorter than in 2005. Apart from a couple of micro-trims it's not been cut since 2000. I got a pretty good roll of the genetic dice with my height (6'6") but not so good with terminal hair length. No point in being unhappy about it though - acceptance is the key!
Comments welcome but remember, my hair is what it is. It doesn't want praise and it doesn't want pity!
Thanks to everyone for all the support the board has given me over the years (even though you didn't know it).
Hi Laurence,
Thank you for sharing this photo with us. I have seen, and appreciated your posts, in the past, and I am delighted to finally be able to put a face to someone who has made the contributions that you have to the hyperboard.
Your hair looks fine, you have straight hair in wonderful condition, and the length is great! In fact, I did not realize it was this long, after reading your earlier posts, and am happy for you that it is at mid back length. I have slow growth myself, and am not sure what my terminal length will be, but after over three years of growing, it is still shorter than yours is now.
Take care,
David
Thank you.
Thank you for your comments, David. Yes, my hair is completely straight in the pic - I'd just washed it although it starts to get a wave in after a few days.
Hi Laurence,
Welcome officially to the board.
Kevin
Thank you, Kevin!
Hey, Laurence, terminal length happens! ...to any longhair who is a longhair long enough. [grin] I haven't trimmed in eleven years, and my mane is not quite as long as yours. It was about three inches longer five years ago.
This is the Men's LONG Hair Hyperboard, not the Men's LONGEST Hair Hyperboard - long hair comes in lots of different lengths. Length is just one more variable as are fineness, density, color, curliness, and just where your hairlines choose to be. All these variables make each of us a unique longhair!
When we are growing it out, all we think about is "length, length, length!" but once it is all over your shoulders, you are a longhair in the public's eyes. You'll get treated just the same as any other longhair, no matter what length you get that ends up somewhere on your back. One's thought eventually turns to what length will look best with the hair that one has gotten.
A few of the guys here can grow extremely long hair, and they do get attention on the street from strangers for that. The reason they get that attention is, of course, that they've done something that MOST FOLKS just can't do. As for you and me, hey, we're just normal folk. Nothin' wrong with that!
Normal folk can choose to be longhairs like normal folk can choose to go to the city park and play baseball. We just won't be playing in the major leagues!
Bill
Thanks, Bill - your comments are most reassuring. I always think of you as the quintessential longhair - if you can be happy with terminal length hair that's not waist length, then so can I!
My individual hairs are incredibly thick, but the overall thickness of my hair as a whole has decreased quite a lot over the last 10 years, which is to be expected. Tempus fugit! Looking at my brothers', father's and grandfather's hair, I'm hoping that my hairline's northward journey has pretty much stopped now although there may be a further element of traction alopecia/'Croydon facelift' loss due to years of pony tailing.
Speak for yourself. Ha ha ha!
Thanks again, Laurence.
Nice hair. May I have your living room? I love what you're decorative style.
Thanks for the comments, Nyghtfall! Glad you like my hair (and the dining room). The room was designed to be as close in style to the year the house was built, 1895, although we threw in some 1897 'Diamond Jubilee' stuff too. Ten years ago that room was an addict's bedsit.
Hi Laurence, glad you've joined us proper like. You are truly belssed genetically, that is one amazing mane.
Welcome. Cheers Dave
Thank you, Dave - you're too kind! I could've done without some of the other stuff the genetics gave me though :-)
Hey Lawrence.
It's great to finally see a pic of you, --- and in my opinion, I think your hair looks TERRIFIC!!!! (Nothing to pity, --- and you're wrong about praise!)
I've enjoyed reading your posts over the years when under your former handle, "Big L", and always felt you contributed some excellent input... So, it's about time we get to have you "officially" with us now (lol)!
Anyway, I know it's very belated, but just in case nobody ever said this to you: WELCOME!!
- Ken in San Francisco
Many thanks Ken/UC. I hadn't realised my random posts had been appreciated. BTW, I think your avatar pic sums up what being a longhair is all about - you look one of the jolliest people on the board!
Welcome Laurence, It is nice to attach a face to the words!
Not everyone can acheive butt length hair, but we can try can't we. It better than not trying!
Keep on growin'
Bruce
Thank you, Bruce. No danger of butt length hair for me!
Hair is what it is, so I won't comment on it but the decor . . . BAM! Love it, especially the chandelier and curtains. Also, a hearty welcome to MLHH.
A belated signout,
-Christian Epp
Many thanks, Christian and a hearty welcome to you, too. You're somthing of a newbie yourself I believe. Good luck on your hair journey. PS There's something of a 'decor' theme running thorugh these posts - if I was Welsh I'd be know as 'Laurence the Wallpaper'!
At last, We see a picture of you! I must say your hair looks superb. Your tattoo looks awesome too! Keep it growing as I am sure you have not reached terminal yet. If that is not the case, Your hair has great length and looks superb nevertheless.
Cheers
Thank you, Chris. I'm something of a tattoo obsessive. Here's a pic of my back - you can just see my ponytail so it remains 'on topic'!
Thank you, Walter.
Hi Laurence,
I didn't realize you weren't a member. I remember you posting pictures before because I remember that wall paper in the background. You have the tattoo on your chest of the two-headed eagle similar to the one that used to be on the Austro-Hungarian Empire's coat of arms, right?
At any rate, your hair looks great, and glad you became a member now. If you ever want to discuss grammar, I'm your man. I will fuss over it ad nauseam and have the capability to eventually piss off almost anyone on account of it if I perseverate long enough!
Ciao, Bragi
The wallpaper! The wallpaper! :-) I'm glad everyone seems to like it so much. It was hand-printed and was the price of a small car. I remember saying to my wife "Why don't we just paste up £10 notes - it'd be cheaper." Plans are afoot (as I write) for a bedroom to be done in replica A.W.Pugin paper, (full-on Gothic - it'll be like sleeping in the House of Lords)!
You have the tattoo on your chest of the two-headed eagle similar to the one that used to be on the Austro-Hungarian Empire's coat of arms, right?
Well remembered - and another excuse to re-post the pic! Pride is a sin but I can't help being very proud of that tat. It's actually a Russian Imperial two-headed eagle (although you're right, the Austro-Hungarian one was virtually identical). I now prefer to think of it as the current symbol of the Russian Federation as the Imperial version has some pretty nasty associations, I realised subsequently.
Oh yeah - the hair! Many thanks, Bragi.
A like-minded individual I can tell. The sign in my local car park "Pay machines are located in the lobby's" has the power to cause me actual physical pain! And don't get me started on 'temporally' for 'temporarily'.
Toodle-pip, Laurence
Welcome to the mlhh! ..officially!
Your hair is looking great ... praiseworthy indeed.
Hope you decide to stick around..
Be Blessed..
Tristan
Thank you, Tristan. I intend to stick around for the forseeable future!
very nice hair man thanks for sharing
Thank you, Kal El !
