alright I've recently read two things revolving around your diet and your hair.
I've read that you should eat a lot of meat and be a vegetation
....................
so lol those are the two opinions of two different websites so does any one know what type of food will be good for your hair :{ ]
something is niggling at me, telling me it would be easier to eat meat., because it musat be quite hard to become a vegatation.
it is quite hard for humans to turn into vegatable patches i must admit..
it's not really important if you are an herbivore, omnivore, or carnivore. what matters for the health of the hair is to get plenty of protein and amino acids in your diet. i've been a vegetarian for nine years, and have healthier hair than most meat eaters i know. (this is partly because i am hypoglycemic, and have to eat way more protein than normal people anyway.) tofu is great for hair and skin. so are hemp nuts. or you can buy bottles of straight aminos and add them to any food. meat doesn't have all the amino acids necessary for hair and skin health, so adding soy to your diet can help if you're not willing to give up flesh. hope this helps!

Just eat healthily, 5 fuirt and veg a day, plenty of good fats like omega 3 and you'll be fine.
Lay off the take aways and fatty foods.
Well, actually both statements have truth. If you're a vegetarian you'll be healthier overall, so that would benefit the hair! But hair is made from the protein keratain so it would require protein intake, which is mainly found in meat. However, there is food like soy beans (and many other nuts) that are full protein and aren't meant. Or you can combine rice + beans or other vegetables to get all the amino acids for your hair.
Vitamins like A, E, C and all B types are important too (but in moderate quantities, especially A since it can cause hair loss if it's abused) and minerals like iron, zinc, sodim and I've also read something about cilica.
DaPs mentioned a very important health benefit that comes from omega-3-fatty acids that are found in fish and olive oils (in contrast to the omega-6-fatty acids that are in most other meats) But, some people just can't turn to fish :D
So if you're moderate and are able to eat as more diverse food as possible, you're gonna be just great! Eggs are really good for hair, btw!
well, being a vegetarian doesn't necessarily make someone healthy. when my friend jonny was veg, he was sick all the time because he basically lived on cheese puffs. :) it was impossble to get him to eat good food.
and to clarify your last statement, egg WHITES are good for hair. egg yellows are just full of cholesteral. i love making omelets with egg whites, tomatoes, spinach, provolone and hemp nuts. delicious!!
Yeah, that's true! Well it depends on what vegetarian food you get and how much, of course :P
You might be right about the cholesterol since I always try to ignore it but then again the Egg's yolk contains most of the nutritients for hair so I guess we're screwed anyhow lol :(
Cholesterol is not the problematic substance that drug companies are making it out to be.
There is good and bad cholesterols but your body actual needs a certain amount (about a level of 130) to even produce hormones.
Good hormone health is much more important to having healthy hair and a good balanced diet with lots of veggies (which contain nutrients your body needs) and some non-burned meat (if you are used to eating it) is what you need. Skip the processed foods full of chemicals and skip the damn refined sugars that fill so many foods.
If you are worried about bad cholesterol then stop overheating oils and fats. Even roasting nuts overheats the oils and changes the oil properties from good to bad. This is the main place that bad cholesterol comes from.
Those omlettes actually sound delicious. I may have to try that recipe soon.
I like to use a small amount of ghee or butter (or grape seed or other oil) to 'pop' mustard seeds and cumin seeds and to brown a small, dried red pepper. The egg white (or whole egg) gets flavoured very nicely and a pinch of salt...Mmm. Voila!
Then I take my multivitamin.
Regarding the hair/food connection, it is complicated and unique for each person's make up (No, not the blood type diet crock...). Avoiding foods high in saturated, or especially trans fats, most of the time is a good start. Eating a balance of whole grains, fruits, veggies (especially colourful veggies), some protein (be it lean meat or tofu, though I would recommend deep-water fish with high Omega 3, 6, 9 concentrations as a top choice for heart health), and yes fat, too. I love sweets, too, but they aren't my dinner.
Meat is not the evil some nutritionists make it out to be, but eating a 14 oz steak and fries and calling that a balanced meal is ludicrous.
Oh, and trying to avoid eating rat poison and bleach is a good tip, too.

alright so basically i can go either way on this subject its not the food I'm eating its whats in the food I'm eating thanks guys :{ ]
Well, yes, but there's more protein in meat, so you don't have to eat as much of it. If you decide to go vegetarian, you'll need to eat more to get the nutrients you need, unless you take daily multivitamins (but you should be doing this anyway). Soy is a popular protein for vegetarians, but there's inconclusive research pointing to it containing an oestrogen-like hormone/hormone-like substance in it which, in large amounts, could potentially have a negative affect on your sex drive. Oestrogens are female hormones, so if a male takes them in, he begins to be "feminized," one of the results of which can be a lowered sex drive. I'm not saying not to eat soy; just be careful.
Peace
actually, there is way more of the protein the human body needs in soy than there is in meat. plus the added benefits of the amino acids and no fat.
and if soy were going to 'feminize' anyone, don't you think all the guys in china would have boobs by now? :) it takes a lot more hormones than what is found in some tofu to have that sort of effect. (and i know plenty of veg males who have no problems with thier sex drives.)

Hey nic and Fallen...
Great topic folkes. I've heard - and I can't give you the source yet- but I've heard that protein from soy is easier to digest than protein from red meat. - I need to research this for myself though.
Similar to whey protein isolate being more digestible -(sp?) than whey concentrate..
Anyway; great topic.. Keep the manes flowin...
Tristan
you are correct. although i can't look anything up while i'm at work. also, milk is useless to the human body once it is homogenized. (sp?) the body can no longer break it down into usable products. i switched to soy milk for that reason long before i went veg.
Well, I said the research wasn't definite. Neither I nor the researchers know. I suppose I should have said that a lot of this is also blown up by rumors and urban myths. I don't personally think that a larger-than-normal intake of soy will make me curvaceous, lol, but since the idea is out of there, I'm cautious.
But if you're correct about soy having more protein than red meat, well, I'll be darned. I'd always heard it was the other way round. However, I agree that it's healthier than eating red meat, even if the meat is lean.
Edit: I dug up this article while I was typing. Interesting stuff, and it substantiates some of the stuff you said. Check it out:

My hair prefers ice cream!
Bill
Way to go, Bill!
Even better, a DQ blizzard, especially that new flavour, caramel waffle cone blizzard! (sinfully rich, with chunks of chocolate as well)
Enjoy those sweets,
David
A friend in Vancouver bought me that ice cream cone, and I think he got his money's worth in laughs. It was actually much messier than it looks, because chunks of ice cream would come off into my beard and then promptly melt. Then they'd run like water down all over my clothing!
Moral to the story: If you have a long beard, get ice cream in a cup, like that other dude in the photo did.
Bill
YES THE PERFECT SOLUTION why hadn't i seen this before i shall dip my hair in ice cream daily lol what works better chocolate or vanilla :{ ]
love the beard btw wish i had that kind of will power
Actually, cotton candy works better than either!
Hey, it's just like growing a mane. The main ingredient is "time". What you see in that photo is 14 months of growth. Now I'm sporting 16.
Bill
Hmmm...Is it supposed to go in your mouth or on the hair.Me?I think I'll eat it.
Arrick
Hahaha! And I imagine a messy challenge too!
Carol
Hey Bill, it's a good thing you spilled some of that ice cream on your beard there, as that way you won't have to ask for a container to take home some for later, --- at least that's what I do in my hair and/or beard every morning at breakfast time... saves me a lot of time and trouble if I want a "snack" later on in the day!

Good advice! Eat a lot of meat and be a vegetarian.
