I'm still going through the akward phase, as I posted before, when my hair dries puffs like a poodle, it looks ok on front, but I still need to grow at least 3 or 4 cms more in order to get the hair controlled with gravity.
Now, I cannot use more gel since I needed at least one Liter to make it look ok, so I decided for a ponytail (or half tail). I have the following routine:
Wake up, take a shower, dress, get the ponytail and get out. I was using the band with the hair wet. I feel it's pretty bad for the hair. I realized that, when loose, the back of my hair curls up, if I try to put in on the ponytail I found that it stars to curls on the very same place the band goes.
So, I feel like I was damaging my hair pretty bad, so I decided to wash it on the evening or afternoon, so I could get it on a ponytail with the hair dry.
Any comments would be highly accepted

I think probably the best thing to do is to let it grow a few months more, by then more hairstrands will be able to reach the tie, i'm only in my 4th month now and i feel i can grab my hair but i would probably have to wait at least 3 months more or so to be able to make some sort of mini ponytail.
By the way, how long have you been growing it?

Hey Simon, I started on Aug '06, but I had SEVERAL trims along the way, I stop cutting it on January, So, I like to mark that as the date. I'd say, 7 months so far.
i know the feeling! ok the thing that works wonders for me might be slightly odd and not fit certain situations but a skullie really straitens my hair out as opposed to the pony tail hope this works for you :{ ]

It might not really fit certain situations, but I'm thinking about a lot places I could use it with no problem, less time using ponytails nor caps (since I feel it does the same effect than the band for the ponytail).
I'm getting one of those.
