So i just thought i would try how a bandana would look on me at the stage i am right now, it's been about 4 months since i chopped my hair off, i think this is a look that would work good during the awkward stage:)
The more official update will come on the 22.
Go with it! Bandanas are my best friend right now.. It helps ease the pain a bit...
Tristan
Yeah i agree, i've got a black one as well, it's fun to change once in a while:)
Just be careful! I went through a phase of snapping up every bandanna I saw that was different from the ones I already had. Yeah, I became a collector, and I ended up with about fifty of them. Truthfully, though, I have about ten favorites and I seldom wear any of the others.
A guy does need more than one, though, since they DO need to go into the laundry basket after a few wearings. Otherwise they will get greasy and your forehead will break out underneath.
If you are to become a collector of something, bandannas is a good thing to pick. They are cheap - only about two bucks apiece. So there's no financial reason to not have all the bandannas that you want!
Bill
Yeah that's some truly wise words there Bill:)
However i find that the bandanas are quite hard to come by here in my city, often i find that ordering through the net is the best way to come by them, i live in a small city ya know:)
Yeah, that can make finding them tough. They are not easy to find even in big cities though. Bandannas are not a merchandise line that fits readily into any one kind of store or in any specific department in a department store, so they tend to show up as "extra items", haphazardly.
If you do travel, that presents an opportunity to keep an eye out for bandannas.
Bandannas tend to come in two main types - traditional patterns and artwork prints. And they tend to be either 100% cotton or have polyester in them.
I find the artwork prints can be more interesting, IF they will fold in a way that you can see an attractive segment of the artwork when the bandanna is on your head. That is a big "if". And I find the 100% cotton ones are less slippery and tend to stay on your head better. Since the traditional patterns (often paisley in nature) can be folded to look good on your head, and since they tend to be the ones most often in cotton, I tend to mostly wear those.
You may find a few bandannas in western wear stores, often just red and blue ones.
You may find a few in biker stores, expecially with motorcycle logos, flags, etc., on them.
Large stores like Walmart, drug stores, and dollar stores may have a few, but sometimes they can be of poor printing quality. I've seen some where the ink for the pattern was thick and overbled.
A few stores on tourist strips may have a dozen or so different styles, and some may have artistic designs. This is where you'll find the most variety in patterns.
Stores in gay neighborhoods will have lots of colors, but the patterns will often all be the same. These bandannas will almost always be 100% cotton. Gay men are interested only in the variations of colors, not in the patterns. Longhairs often care about the patterns as well as the colors. However, if you want a unique color, the gay neighborhood stores are the place to look.
Also, be aware there are a few bandannas for sale that are not standard size. You want ones that are either 21 or 22 inches on a side. Otherwise, they will not fit on your head.
Happy hunting!
Bill
I just go into my local fabric store and get a square metre of broadcloth cotton fabric. I then cut it down to size as necessary - very cheap and works well. Also, I think my head is larger than normal (no comments please :-D )and a "normal" bandana doesn't fit. Being lazy I don't bother to hem the edges but have had no problems.
You can purchase oversized bandannas on the Internet. Google "oversized bandannas". I've only seen them once in a store. They tend to be about 26 inches on a side instead of the usual 21 or 22. I have one, and it will fit on an ordinary-sized head, however it will be thicker on your forehead and probably make a wider band. It will also leave a bigger "bow" in the back behind the knot.
The oversized bandanna is good to wear on a chilly day. It provides more insulation on one's forehead because it is thicker and wider.

Lookin good there, Simon.
Jeffrey.
Thank you Jeffrey!:D
Looks pretty rad Simon! Lovin' the 80s kind of retro look, glad its working for you. Cool way to deal with awkward stage hair

Hey Simon:
The bandana looks great on you. Stick with it buddy! It's done wonders for me to help keep the scissors away.
Cheers,
Max
Thank you Max! Yup the bandana sure is a practical and cool thing to wear, especially in the awkward stage. I'm sorry to hear that you got so much negative comments when you wore that pne, but just do what i do, let it go in one ear and out the other, if you like something then that's the only thing that matters, after all, you can't please everybody:)
Simon
Hi Simon,
The bandana looks very cool, and I wanted to commend you again for your new long hair journey since your trim. Your hair looks good and healthy now, and you will be genuinely pleased down the road when you have gained some serious length. Keep up the good work, and looking forward to your update on the 22nd.
All the best,
David

The bandanna looks great on you, Simon. Very cool. To be honest, I think a black bandanna or a dark blue one would look even better! By the way Simon, Your hair is looking excellent. I can't wait for that update!
Take care man
Hey Chris! Thanks for the comments, they sure are highly appreciated:)
I agree that a black one would probably look even better, i've had one but i can't find it anywhere, i'm always so careless with stuff, oh well, guess i'll just buy a new one when i get the chance;)
Hey Simon,
I think your found your way through the awkward stage. The bandana
works well and would also be cool if it covered your whole head give it a try see if you like it.
Kevin
Hummm that came out wrong. I meant the top of your head you know.
LOL
You know simon, that looks really great, that really suits you and makes your hair look longer too.
Axl Rose Rules!!!
Take care Dave
Yeah i noticed that too, that the hair appears a bit longer. lookin forward to your future pics as well!
Take care!
Simon
You're right; it's a great look! You look like you could be in a kung fu movie. :P Bandanas are some of the most useful items to have during the awkward stage; I just wish I'd had one when I'd just entered the awkward stage and my hair was behaving very badly.
Peace, and your hair's coming back nicely!
