This is an old pic, about a year, and not a very good one, as I wasn't doing the best healthwise. I so need updated photos. Hair is short here, mine is now just a bit past my shoulders. I had been keeping it at around chin lenght, due to thinning. Now the thinning seems to have reveresed itself, since the two medical problems I had been diagnosed with at the time this was taken (Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and Osteomalacia), are being treated. Lot's of new 1 to 2 in hairs are sticking up from the top back of my head. I do want to add myself to the directory of users, but I am waiting for newer, better pics. This blotchy, bloated look is not me currently. Meanwhile, this gives you an idea of what the lady behind the name 'Just Carol' sorta looks like.
Carol
Hi Carol! Fun to finally see your face, and i'm forward to some more pics;)
And welcome aboard the directory, when you do decide to become a full time member:D
Well, Carol, that's not a bad pic at all.
I'm glad that you're doing better and that your thinning issue is reversing.
As you read below, I use Avodart and my hairloss has stopped and even reversed slightly, furthermore, I do feel that Rogaine, when used exactly as directed is a worthwhile product. Hopefully, you will need none of these medications.
Another interesting site is "baldingblog.com." I visit there often, as they have some interesting topics regarding the many causes of hairloss, not just AGA.
Please, keep us posted on your progress and best wishes.
Jeffrey.
Well, I have mentioned previously that I take 5mg finasteride (Proscar) for an interesexed condition (Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia). I use it as an anti-androgen for treating the virilization that CAH causes in women. It has had the added benefit of putting a halt to the gradual thinning that started in my 30's. I've been on it for a number of years. I read about the Avodart stuff, and am wondering if maybe I should switch. Something to talk to my doctor about when I see her.

Hi Carol
It's nice to see the person who likes the Photos I take. LOL
I'm glad your health issues are being dealt with successfully and we look forward to your becoming a member.
take care
Kevin
Hey Carol ...
Finally ... we now know the woman behind the computer! :)
Welcome .... if I didn't say it before to mlhh. We're glad you're here..
Be Blessed...
Tristan
Carol, thank you for posting your visitor-friendly face shot of yourself; really, ya don't convey any kind of "blotchy, bloated look" whatsoever. You're pic conveys quite the fetching lass, come to think of it, even resembling an old flame "Tree" (her college nickname was), whose given name was / is really Willo. So, all you middle-aged lurkers out there, if ya knew Tree and her then beau, the Ethereal One, please convey to her my Hello's.
Carol, if you would like, I invite you to correspond w/ me off board, by simply clicking on my user name. A nifty alternative to posting that the good ol' moderator boys here at the M.L.H.H. have availed us. We can discourse on health concerns at greater length. Why, my wife's sentiments are that I should finally get that medical university doctorate, I'm interested in the health field so much.
Once we reach a certain calendar year, our health concerns become a matter of course, I daresay. Once again, Carol, I laude you with the kudos you so richly deserve for addressing certain life struggles. Thank you for being one of the winsome lasses that have joined up with us guys in our cause to remain resolute and never sheer our tresses. Corporatocracy be damned.
Best wishes in longhaired (and growing) camaraderie,
~ Quenyan (+:-)}
Why, thank you for the nice reply, Quenyan. Well if that medical doctorate is on your 'to-do' list, I am a walking example of having gotten all the bad family genes, I swear. And I spend copious amounts of time searching the i'net for the latest research, I do declare. Makes my PCP supremely happy, as I am an informed and educated patient.
Some of my conditions were a late diagnosis, and all have contributed much to various health problems. Things came to a screeching halt after a drunk driver totaled my car nearly 14 years ago. As a result, I have been unable to work, and get by on monthly disability payments. It's been a strange and wild trip, as I get diagnosed for other things that apparently are co-morbid, or run in the family of those with certain conditions.
Here's my laundy list: How many have you heard of, or know anything about? My doctor says I am her most challenging patient, because of my overlapping conditions.
Non-Classc Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH)(Most common form of intersexuality among females. Also causes premature bone aging; at 46 yo, I have the bones of a woman 20 years older than me)
Congenital Hip Dysplasia
Osteoarthritis OA (due to the Hip Dysplasia and the CAH)
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
Food allergies. Environmental allergies.
Lumbar Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD)
Cervical DDD with Occipital Neuralgia (Related to OA and CAH)
Fibromyalgia Syndrome
High blood pressure (related to having CAH)
Borderline high cholesterol (related to having CAH)
Mildly Obese (related to having CAH, though I have lost 75 ibs over the past 5 years due to diet changes)
Was always insulin resistent (due to having CAH), but now have Type II Diabetes (due to having CAH, sounding like a broken record here.) :-D
Asperger's Syndrome (A type of high-functioning autism with above-average language skills and below average social skills) (Sometimes refered to as 'geek syndrome'; those with it refer to themselves as 'Aspies' or 'Aspergians' from the planet Aspergia, and not Earth, where the Nuerotypicals come from.)
Hasimoto's Thyroiditis
Osteomalacia
I think that'll keep you busy for awhile. ;-)
I live alone in a rent subsidized apartment, in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by farms and overlooking the Maryland Blue Ridge Mountains. I have a Calico cat named Calleigh (who is snoozing to my left as I keyboard).
I am severely mobility impaired, and suffer from chronic pain that requires treatment by an opiate patch (fentanyl transdermal system), and topical Lidicaine patches. I believe very much in the power of positive thinking, I refuse to let my limitations get me down. I accept that there are some things I cannot do, and I don't get depressed or upset about it. The glass is always half-full, I'm an optimist, and I hate negative people and negative put-downs. If I am having a bad day, you won't hear it here. Not only am I not going to dwell on it, I am not going to bore y'all with the depressing details.
The one thing I must say that I like about MLHH, after finally delurking from the shadows, is that the group is so supportive, and has many positive thinkers on it. Men who grow long hair have to be positive thinkers, or they'd never succeed in the negative sociatal environment. This is such a great group of people, and I hope to stick around a long time. I also tend to be a non-conformist, and a bit of a radical too. I dislike politics (whether it be governmental or RC Church politics), the corporate world and rigid people. I'd rather talk about interesting things like men having long hair, and supporting those who do. I like beauty, and nature and art, and all of the positive things the world offers. A guy with a nice head of gorgeous hair fits right in on that.
I am all typed out now, and I seriously need to hit the sack. So, good night.
Carol
Yes, yes, Carol, indubitably, tis true. Without naming names and thus unintentionally inevitably precluding someone's name and, hence, accidentally generating a resentment, there ARE quite a number of well-learned, highly intelligent, progressive thinkers here at the MLHH organization, I must concur.
And so you shall, Carol. You, yourself, have a resolute nature to defy all negative denominators. Whoa. I admire you. A dyed-in-the-wool warrior woman. Yes. Join me at tribe.net, please. I've got twelve friends, as opposed to hundreds of interestingly configured "avatars" (my black-light-lit one itself still causes a certain amount of equal amounts contention and admiration!), and my first name's Anadae, middle's Quenyan, surname's Effro, being Cymric, the official ancient language of Wales, the country, not the mammal.
Hear, hear! I think that it's clear to all who post their postings here, Carol, that men with long hair are, indeeeeed, fighters for their cause. Hence, a lot goes with it. Smarts, looks, and definitely being opinionated, but in a GOOD way, not a bad way.
Thank you, Carol, thank you. And there's a certain amount of camaraderie there with you girls, being a resolute equal rights feminist the way I am. Oh, b.t.w., your diagnoses are very interesting. That whole coterie of symptoms is so intriguing to me I must, must, MUST encourage you to pursue these topics of discussion with me offboard, please.
Anyway, my beautiful friend, we are ALL deeply moved by your candor. I am, if nothing else, a mentor, an ear, a shoulder, and confidante, and an endocrinologist in the making, with a profound leaning towards naturopathic rather than allopathic applications. Talk to ya again real soon, Carol!
Best wishes always,
~ Quenyan (+:-)}
"Saoirse agus Anam!"
I'll give you a note through email. Talk to you later.
Carol
Hi Carol,
Thank you for sharing this picture of you with us on the hyperboard, I am delighted to see your face for the first time. I am SO happy for you that the treatment for your hair loss is working out so well for you, and I will be cheering for you every step of the way as your hair becomes thicker and longer. I am looking forward to having you listed in the directory!
Take care,
David
Hi Just Carol! Can we call you Just for short?
LOL. Well, I don't know... :-D
Carol
Hmm, something must be wrong with my computer. I can't seem to see a picture of someone who looks "blotchy and bloated." I do however see a beautiful face with a great smile and lovely eyes. :-)
Welcome to the board,
Mouse
