Well, a bit over a month (I lost my detangling device for a week and a half), and I'm now finished detangling my dreadlocks!
I'm leaving one dreadlock in, just to have it to remember my old set by.
So far. . .it's a lot more maintenance! I enjoy the curly hair but it's so much dad-blasted work, lol.
I'm going to enjoy having detangled hair for a while, but eventually I'm going to let it do its own thing and lock back up.
But for now. . .pictures!
Great looking long curley hair without question! But of all the work that you speak, I can well side with you on that one after being used to dreads for so long. However, I am sure you were amazed at length after doing all of the work required to un-do the dreds. Thanks for sharing the photos with all of us.
I didn't know it was possible to undo dreads either. My own hair could use some serious detangling- do you mind telling what you did to detangle?
Thanks
OMG! I didn't know you could undo dreds! That must've been a lot of work, but the curls do look kewl.
Carol
Dude.... I adore dreads... your hair looks good now too... long hair is the key. I also like your piercings... looking cool!
Enjoy the rest of your summer.

I agree about the hair and the piercings (particularly the septum piercing). What size it the septum? It looks great with that claw in it; it would also look good with a CBR. Congrats on the detangling! I liked you dreads, too!
Thanks for the kind words. . .the septum is a 3guage, with the ears being 1-3/8" (left lobe) and 1" (right lobe)
holy crap! i can't believe you had that much patience. it was well worth the effort... your hair looks great!! congrats!
peace,
nic - your long-haired sister
Wow, good job man! It's a world of difference. To be honest, I like this new look a lot better than your previous. I know what hard work curly hair is, but it is well worth it!
That must have been the mother of all detangling chores! I will remember your efforts next time I complain about a pesky little snarl :)
Looks fantastic, the curls are awesome dude, a testament to the patience and effort you put in.
Your hair is lookin great there now! A lot better than with the dreads if i say so myself:)
Keep up the good work!
Simon
Congratulations on an OUTSTANDING job detangling your dreads, and I would like to extend a tip of the hat to you for the patience you have shown in doing this. Your long curly hair looks awesome right now.
Keep it growing,
David
Your hair looks fantastic now that it's been set loose. Personally, I'm not a fan of dreads, but I certainly admire the patience and work you put into taking them out. Whatever you choose to do with your hair in the future, best of luck! =)

It looks really good that way but I liked it as dreads too.
Kevin
That's great. I'm glad you didn't have to get it cut off and start all over. the detangling must have taken a lot of patience. I get impatient and I don't even have dreds.
I guess when faced with either detangling or cutting you detangle : )
Wow, Awesome, it changes a lot ! ;)
I admire you, for this detangling job !
I can see that your hair is not damaged, after all these knots, it's a bit surprising !
Bye
Vivien
Well, the hair doesn't move around, get brushed, caught in things etc when it's in dreadlocks. . .the most damaging part of it was taking them out. . .I have quite a few split ends that I'm going to trim off in the next couple of months.
Freaking incredible. Wow. I loved your dreads, but your undreaded curls are just as awesome. Your hair probably feels a lot lighter, huh? lol. You're probably glad you didn't go through with that haircut (I wish I could remember the name; it was an interesting word), too. I like the spiritual aspect of it--you're only taking a pause from the dreads, sort of like passing through a familiar place again.
Great piercings, too.
So, was anybody shocked to see you without your dreads?
Peace, man
The "Khokhol" cut, yeah. . .glad I decided against that ;)
Right now I'm on the road, and haven't seen old friends/family for several months. . .they'll get a chance to see in the fall when I go back through Texas
Wow ... lots of hard work has finally paid off. I personally like the long curly look vs the dreads.. Good luck with whatever you choose to do..
Tristan
Ball Guy, reading that your detangling has taken such time makes it sound like you have been walking aound with some curls and some dreads for a while. I think that's really neat you have the comfort to pull that off.
Elizabeth
Heh, the looks weren't any different than when I had a full set of dreads really.
WOW, am I ever impressed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had no idea that a person with dreads could do anything other than cut them all off and start anew, --- at least that's what I had always heard.
My nephew had dreads for over 6 years; but just last year during his last year of college, he apparently got tired of them, eventually buzzing it all off.... I am SO glad to know there's another choice, --- and, BTW, your hair looks GREAT!!!!

As incredible as your dreads were(are), I really like this look better.....long curls are impressive.
I am curious; What is a "detangling device"? Something along the lines of a crochet hook??

Actually a hair-stick. A shop here at the festival sells hand-carved 2-prong hair sticks for buns etc. . .mines made out of a very sturdy wood, and had a smooth surface with a fine point. . .it did a great job of detangling layer upon layer of knots without causing excessive damage to hair.
The long curls are really inspiring, BG. Makes me look forwad to the years to come. (and who knows? I may get tired of maintenance and dread up for 2010...)
Thanks for sharing.
