I have mentioned my hair woes in other posts, being a middle-aged female with an intersexed condition that leads to MPB. And had additional loss, as I mentioned, due to low thyroid and Vitamin D levels. Years of Proscar (finasteride) helped it from getting worse. I was happy noting that the effects of the Vit D, thyroid hormone, and continued use of finasteride, resulted in a growth spurt in the very thin area of the upper back of my head. One to two inch hairs, and lots of fine fuzz.
Well, my mom stopped by this morning, after being away for over two weeks. She noticed that a) my hair is getting longer, and b) it is getting fuller due to new growth. :-D :-D :-D Yay! Someone noticed! She usually sees me nearly every day, and hadn't paid much attention. I told her I was letting it grow long, and seeing how it goes. I had also used a Garnier color highlighter, so my hair has a golden look, and my natural strawberry blonde highlights show.
I have the tow-headed look, as upon close inspection, my scalp is visible through my fine, diffuse strands. But overall, it looks much better than it did about a year ago. And it's still not full enough for a center part, but I kinda like the side part I have. I am going to have to dig out my barrettes and start using them again, now that there is enough hair to catch one on.
The moral of the story is, don't take the condition of your hair for granted. If you are experiencing problems, it may be medical/hormonal, and you may be able to halt or reverse it.
My hair is very fine and fragile, and extremely prone to breakage, so I don't expect to grow it down past my waist, the way I wore it in high school. But I definitely would like to aim for upper to mid-back.
Now I just need to get some pics taken so I can join the MLHH directory and post with an avatar by my name.

Congratulations on your goal being more possible than before. I'm glad you found what works for you, Carol.
