On Monday evening my sister-in-law treated me and my partner to join her and a friend in attending a live Willie Nelson concert up at Saratoga's Mountain Winery, --- it was WONDERFUL!!!
Besides the fact that he has two sons that are both in his band who have at least what could be referred to as, "shaggy hair", Willie himself has an AMAZINGLY THICK braid that went PAST HIS BELT!!!!! And I've always loved his voice... I don't know his current exact age; but I think he's at least in his 60s by now, --- and yet still has that awe-inspiringly smooth singing voice that can melt even the most heardened of hearts.
But, as much as i love his music, it was his amazingly long braid that I just couldn't get out of my mind when I left the winery to return home... it's falls into at least a tripple "WOW!!" category!!!

Bad joke time - please forgive me.

The front row at a Willie Nelson Concert!
P.S. - I quite like "the red haired stranger"'s music myself.
Shame on you! That joke doesn't apply anywhere outside of Arkansas!
I'm actually a big fan of Willie myself, and have many of his albums, as a matter of fact i listen very much to countrymusic, Willie & Johnny Cash being my favourites:)
And Willie's hair is incredible as well, seeing as he's 74 years old now, i wonder if he's ever got hair transplants or something?
I don't think he's ever had hair transplants, as he has always consistently had a full head of hair his entire life. I remember when he cut it short in the 90s somewhere, and was surprised how many of his fans missed his braid(s), and wrote him expressing the wish that he'd grow it back long... which obviously he's done very well at obliging us!
Thanks for the reply, Simon!

Ken, Willie is very cool. Indeed he is 74 yrs young and in wonderful shape. My Mother's age and she's a big fan too! Of course every one knows his first big claim to fame was writing "Crazy" the great Patsy Cline tune in the early 60's.

up at Saratoga's Mountain Winery, --- it was WONDERFUL!!!
Yes, Willie was quite the song-writer, way before he was ever known to step on-stage and sing in public... which I'm so grateful he did, as he's got that smooth-as-glass distinctive voice of his. The world would just not be the same without him gracing the world with his presence. I forgot to mention the fact that he finished the concert with an AWESOME new song he wrote, the chorus or refrain going something like this: "There's a peaceful solution, and it's the Peace Revolution... Let's take back America! And let's make a point to remember so we don't repeat September... Let's take back America!"
It went something like that, anyway, --- reminded me of the old peace ballads of the anti-Vietnam war era in the '60s. It was VERY moving, and he got a roaring standing ovation (well-deserved, in my opinion)!!!!!
Thanks, jonalbear!

Willie started out as many others trying to make it in the music industry. I recall seeing appearances of him in 1965 on the Louisiana Hayride in Shreveport, Louisiana. He had short hair and wore a suit. During this time he was no different from the many others trying to make a name for themselves. So he decided to grow his hair out, change his image, and see where he is today. He is loved worldwide by fans and the IRS. And he is still going strong.

"Fans and the IRS". My god I laughed XD
That IRS joke was great, lol. And I'm a big fan of outlaw country.
It's been said that his problems with the IRS actually enhanced his outlaw image, thereby enhancing his income and lessening the effects of the brush with the taxman.
It is not rare for people to shout "Willie!" at me and smile and wave, especially when I am wearing a red bandanna. They think I look something like him. One year at a Christmas tree lot the three young guys running it were so fascinated by the similarity that they could hardly concentrate on selling us a tree.
And one year at Castro Halloween I went down there not in costume, and at least two dozen people thought I WAS in costume, as Willie Nelson!

Hi Ken,
Willie is 74 years old. An amazing fellow in a lot of areas.

Hi Ken,
I have to agree with you about Willie Nelson, his hair is unbelieavable for his age, I think he may even be past 70 by now, and he has no MPB or thinning to spaek of, and a superb terminal lenghth as well! I rememeber that he had long hair most of his life, then had an episode where he cut it fairly short, I think it was in the late 80's or early 90's. Since then he has grown it longer than he has ever had it before. Now if only he could send me some of his DNA to ME, I would be MOST grateful, lol!

Willie concerts are always fun. I'm a big fan of his, outlaw country in general is great as well as classic country. Other country artists I like are John Prine, Hank Williams Sr., Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, David Allan Coe, Kris Kristofferson, Flatt & Scruggs, Bob Wills, Roy Acuff, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, Ray Price, Bill Monroe, Robert Earl Keen, Dwight Yoakam, etc.
It's really sad what country music has become now, at least in terms of what's popular. I can't get into the new radio friendly stuff at all.
Hi Rated R,
I very much like a lot of the C&W artists you mentioned, --- especially Merle Haggard & Dwight Yoakam! I'm also a big fan of the following: George Strait, Suzy Boguss (whose voice sends chills up my spine), k. d. lang, EARLY Reba MacIntire (not so crazy about her more recent stuff), Emmylou Harris, Tanya Tucker, Martina McBride (who has an AWESOME voice!), and.... Shania Twain (I realize not everybody likes her; but, I confess I do - lol)!
Most C&W radio stations suck, BIG-time, --- I can't get into them either. For me, C&W "Heaven" only happens when there's a great Country DJ spinning the perfect dance tunes... All I need then is a nicely waxed & buffed hardwood floor and some of my favorite dance partners... Ahhhhhhhhhh, --- makes me want to slip into my boots just thinking about it!!!!

Hey, I have an idea for your next update! Tornado pigtails!
Glad you enjoyed the concert Ken.

I really like his stuff Ken, I saw him on a late live music show here and he played some of his 'Spirit' album, and I was very impressed. That was a while ago, and I 'think' it was shortly after the death of his wife and that loss inspired the album, - you can certainly feel it.
