Hi, yeah my hair just seems to be everywhere at the moment, in my mouth when I eat, in my face when I work, across my face when I am driving with the window open!!!
So not being a fan of my own ponytail as I don't think it is really long enough and don't like the look of it, I am resigned to having to wear one nearly all of the time.
Oh well.
.
do you guys think its ok?
That a great looking tail there Dave. Nothing to worry about!
Keep on growin'
Bruce
Thanks Bruce, you know this weekend was the first time in my 20 months of growth that i had 'doubts'.
VERY BAD, and no I will never cut it, but just for a second I had doubts! :-(
I know what you mean - doubts. I occasionally get them, but having long hair before, then cutting, then wanting again, I crush those doubts with the heel of my shoe!
Bruce
Hey Bro's: I had a dream just last night that I DID CUT IT! It was very vivid, I remember thinking how long it would take to grow it back and what it would look like NEXT summer. It seemed so real that when I woke up and realized it was a dream and I actually felt physically/emotionally relieved! It scared the
@#$% out of me. So, I second Bruce's comments....having grown and cut it before....Crush those doubts man! Bruce'ster
And yet, it's so awesome-looking.
Seriously! I think it looks sweet. It's actually a little longer than I thought it'd be. If you don't like it, fine, but I think it's awesome.
Keep it growing! You've come a long way from the purple mohawk....
Peace
Thanks Fallen_Angels, maybe it just 'my' perception, as its difficult to see the side and back properly. Thats how these pics came about as I wanted to see how 'bad' it looked.
Maybe its something I have to get used to, as I'm only used to looking at a wild and unruley mane!
Thanks again.
Looks fine to me. I think it's getting used to the hair not being everywhere that is the shocker, for me anyway, at first. One's used to having hair hanging over the ears and down in the face, but the pony tail solves it, and although you know it's still all there - it's just not the same! It takes some time getting used to.
i think it looks downright sexy!
but what do i know... i'm just a girl. :)
peace,
nic
Thats good to hear, maybe I should enjoy it instead of thinking it as second best to my hair being free. Cheers
I think it looks fine. I put mine back, when I need to, and release it and free it, when I don't. You don't have to leave it in the tail, but it does come in handy to tail it in certain situations. Keep a couple of hair ties in your pocket for those times you need to tie it back.
Carol
I will trade my scruffy little old rattail for that full looking ponytail anytime !!
Your right Walter, i should be thankful for what I have.
Looks great, imo
Hello Dave, I think your tail is great...your hair is so thick. Like others have said, length will solve many issues. I am going through EXACTLY what you are going through at this time. Each day I think..."next year at this time it'll mostly be a done issue." Don't want to speed my life away, but you know what I mean. Hang in there!
Cheers, Max
Hey Max, thanks buddie. I think the same sometimes "how I wish I was a year advanced in my growth", and then like you I feel I am wishing my life away.
Onwards and downwards!!
Cheers Dave
Dear NuttiDave:
I do not like pony tails myself.
I have found some nice Celtic clasps, which I put on my hair upside down, fold it up, and put a bobby pin in the hair, so that the aspiring tale falls over the clasp.
OR
I take my pony tail and give it one twist, hold it up over the back of my head, and put the clasp in holding both the tail and the underlying hair, and letting the ends fall over the clasp.
OR,
I follow the basic directions of Gollan to achieve the "bee butt bun," and I use two tooth picks to hold it, or some barbacue skewers which I have cut to about 4" lengths, to hold my bun. The amazing things is that the toothpicks are functional but nore really visible.
I get the pleasure of the length without the tail.
Caledonian
Dave, there's nothing wrong with your ponytail. I'm also going through the not long enough for a full tail. Pony it up, it looks good.
eric.
I use sunglasses on top of my head as a headband to deal with those problems. I'm not a fan of ponytails either.
cheers, Pete
And i thought i was alone! I too dislike ponytails due to my current length but i must say your ponytail looks excellent Dave.
It looks good man. Quite THICK too!
I'm glad it isn't just me then Chris, I do like them but when they are longer and stay put!!
But its just not practical to have my hair down all the time now its longer.
Cheers Dave
Your tail is perfectly fine :)
Your tail looks great - if you don't like the loose hairs (which drive me crazy too) you could try a little bit of gel - 100% aloe vera gel is less sticky than styling gel, and brushes out cleanly (no build up).
Hi Dave,
One of the downsides of longhair is the need for a ponytail from time to time. I would much prefer to wear my hair down all the time but encounter the same problems so it's a necessary evil so your not alone.
Kevin
I'm in the same boat when I go out right now until I gain a little extra length so it will stay put on its own.
But its a great feeling to have the problem in the first place, isn't it!
Looking good there, wild man!
George
No worries on the tail, Dave. I think it looks great.
Mouse
I guess you could always try a bandanna or an alice band or barettes or something like that? There are "manly-enough" and "manly" and "for men" products out there if you look hard enough.
Your tail looks great Dave, thick and full! It makes me miss my old tail;)
Hi Dave,
Your ponytail looks awesome, it is full and thick, and you have come such a LONG ways in a short period of time, as all your hair fits fully into the tie. I admit that I don't wear a ponytail that often, but it sure comes in handy on the golf course when the wind is blowing. One of the members of my golfing foursome is also able to wear a full ponytail now, after 18 months, he is finally able to get all his hair in the tie.
Take care,
David
Every new stage of hair growth brings with it a new adjustment, --- a visual adjustment to get used to looking at it in the mirror; the adjustment of physically feeling "different" with it as well; and the adjustment friends and relatives may have to make looking at you in a different way from how they are used to viewing you.
Tails look best after you've had one a year or longer, --- about shoulder-blade length is when mine looked best. Nowadays, I either bun, braid, or make a segmented ponytail; but hey, it's all part of the "entertainment" factor!
Judging from your pics, I think your tail looks just fine! But, I totally undserstand where you might not like it all taht much yet.... and certainly you can always wear it down whenever youi feel the situations deems it practical enough...
On another topic...
I just read your reply to my comment to Justin about the Brylcream add jingle... A big THANKS, --- it gave me a good, loud laugh!!!!
See ya 'round the ranch!
- Ken
Thanks Ken, a very nice insightful reply, and you're right its all part of the journey.
See you round Barbie's house. Dave
Dave, I must say that that is probably the greatest hair problem I have ever seen. The tail suits you quite well. =)
-James
Hi NuttiDave. Are you crazy? I think your tail looks great. Of course it will look even better as it gets longer, but give yourself some credit. It looks great.
Del
Hi Dave.Sorry to hear your hair is not cooperating with your daily activities but I basically have to deal with the same issues myself.Because of its extreme length I have to have it restrained anytime I'm outdoors or it would be a mess.Unless there is no wind at all its in a tail most of the time or I wear a baseball cap over it with the tail tucked in underneath which is how I have it at work being I'm outdoors a lot. However I love my hair so much I'm willing to put up with that as cutting it short would be the easy way out.I think your tail looks fantastic but I hear you as its nicer to let the hair hang freely.Just don't get too bummed out about those little issues as in the end you'll feel it worth it like I do.Mark
hi dave,
you have stumbled into the secret second awkward stage known only to you. Unlike the first one which was visible, this one is characterized by inconvenience to you only so no one else knows about it. this has happened to me also. that's how I know about it. As with just about every other problem, length will eventually solve this one. Greg Lovern mentions it in his note on the 4th Awkward Stage, Bad Hair 4 The Ponytail. This is when your hair is not quite long enough to stay in a tie but too long to wear loose because it starts to get in your mouth, ears, eyes, and outside gets all tangled in the wind. So you don't feel like you can wear it loose but it's somewhat uncomfortable in a tie because the tie has to be real high and tight. When it gets longer it will be easy to tie and stay put.
Back in the winter I smirked at guys I would see with these teeny ponytails. how lame I thought. None of that for me. I planned on waiting until I could have a real ponytail. then my hair got long enought to get horribly tangled in the wind; it fell into my eyes when I leaned over and got hot in the summer when I ran. I caved in and became a slave to the tie by tying it outside and it was a big relief even though I'd have to redo the tie every 30 minutes and keep it high and tight. So just tie it up and eventually it will work out. All probs. solved with length.
Hello Rob, great reply, its nice to know there are many people that experience the same thing. Cheers Dave
